Sure I could manage to install dependencies and sure I could use APT
instead of DPKG to solve the problem, was an example just to understand
how is meant to work.
Someone here above reported that installing 8.3.1 solved it, I assumed
it was correct, my fault.

Thanks, now I better understand.

Hi Michael, thanks for your answer, I sent you also a PM on this matter,
you could then forget it.

But could you please better articulate what we are expecting is going to
happen?

Using this dependency problem, as an example:

"latest" is now 8.3.0 and, as per yesterday night, it suffers from
that.
"nigthly stable" is 8.3.1 and the problem is not there, which means has
been corrected at some time.

Should we expect 8.3.0 will be corrected too in the near future OR is
'frozen' untill you will promote 8.3.1 to 'latest'? If so, when sis
going to happen (talking in general, not specific to that release and
problem)

Hoping my question is clear,

Thanks.

Whi do you need UPNP bridge at all?

I'm confused...

What I'm looking for is

a. browse my LMS based library with Mconnect.
b. command My SB playback from Mconnect (playTo).

Is not he Andy Plugin enough for that?

Try to read twice all the THD but I could not found the answer:

Using Mconnect I could see le library in my LMS server AND select the
player to play to, BUT it plays just a track at once, as you pointed,
have you get rid of that and how?

Is not the Plugin that does not starts, is the transcoder, a program
used to understand in advance the rate of the incoming stream and decide
what rate to use in output accordingly with settings.

This is caused by audioscan new versions, or better, by me not handling
it in the correct way. I know, I'll correct it asap.

BUT if you select just one rate for PCM and DSD the transcoder program
is NEVER used, sox, flac,... are used instead as usual.

please be sure to set C-3PO like that:

33356

and it should work

This is a specific problem in Windows due to the Audioscan Version, as
a turnaround, it should be fixed by selecting just on sample rate in
output (both PCM and DSD), like i showed in the previous post.

If not, could you please post an hard copy of your C-3PO settings page?

I think is going to work, but you MUST choose FLAC as the output format,
only Squeezelite with R2 patch could get the sample rate from the header
of the wave stream.

the R2 patch is needed, but now is integrated into all the squeezelite
versions I'm aware of.

In Daphile it works out of the box, in the Pcp version (the one from
Ralphy) needs to be activated adding -W to the command line.

C-3PO will still prompt you with a warning message saying that your
version is non an R2 version, but is just a warning.

Errors you have in the log are not related to C-3PO.

"Unable to run C-3PO transcoder see server log." is related to a bug
related to the PERL version, you could ignore it but BE SURE to manually
select ONE and ONLY ONE Output sample rate both for DSD and PCM.
32004

Then it should work.

The message about squeezelite is just a warning, is not an R2 version,
so you need to be sure it could handle upsampled PCM streams in input
(-W switch enable on command line if using the pcp one).

If the stream in output is FLAC it should work, it will not it WAV/AIFF
due to the feature (sure is not a bug!) in the SB firmware solved by
squeezelite.R2 and now in any squeezelite version.

Yes, the message states that C-3PO converter (that's the executable)
won't run (maybe is not the clearest way to state it, any suggestion is
appreciated), using only one output rate is the way to avoid it.

To me both Wav and FLAC works fine, that's quite strange.

Hello and thanks to you all, i'm fine, just being too busy becouse the
COVID emergency, no time left for hobbies. Hope is going to better now.

BTW "Unable to run C-3PO transcoder see server log." as someone of you
have already pointe don't is caused by either Audio/Scan.pm o r the
executable it uses bein g not where C-3PO is looking for it.

I already faced this problem with newer versions of PERL user by some
Linux distros, I'll check it out.

in the meanwhile, the workaround Is to enable ONE and ONLY ONE output
sample rate, this way:

30659

Other messages:

StdIn (es. Qobuz) enabled, will resample at the max allowed sample
rate.
Player is not Squeezelite, assuming is compliant.

are just warnings, the first is because a 'feature' (to me is a bug,
but...) in transcodingHelper in LMS that prevent 'navigate' the stream
when coming from STDIN, the other is because your client is not
recognized as being Squeezelite-R2, so you have to check -W is enabled
in command line (if using Ralphy version) or whatever else in other
versions (nothing is necessary using Daphile, it already enables R2
mods).

I'll have a look at the plugin ASAP, please forgive me if it will not be
in hours.

IN C-3PO you have gain, that is linear like the one in squeezelite and
Loudness.

Loudness is not linear, it applies the Isophonic curve:

30657

The rationale is:

1. select the SPL where you 'perceive' your speakers as 'linear' (i.e.
60phon).
2. apply a gain variation i.e. -20db

the resulting level is not a 'plain' reduction of 20db at all the
frequencies, but some frequencies are reduced more than other,
resulting in loudness, that is meant to 'preserve' the same perception
(or EQ) you have when listening at 60db.

In that example, at 60phon 200Hz are at 60db as 1000Hz are, but at
40phon (resulting from the attenuation of 20phon) they are 'louder',
more or less 42db. The opposite for 500Hz, that is a bit 'louder' at
60phon than at 40.

Posing the reference at 60, 40 or 80phon is arbitrary, you could select
any of them, the result will change a little, being the differences form
100 and 80 different from the ones between 60 and 40, but, usually, an
attenuation is resulting in more 'loud' where a positive gain will
result in a flatter line.

SOX has a caveat with loudness: the 'balance' of the two channels it
often changes a bit, so you'll have to compensate using per channel
volume controls.

Loudness is not my 'preferred' way to EQ, the one I prefer is 'shelving
EQ' (Treble and Bass command) that works like the good old' tone
controls' in amplifiers, just remember to always use attenuation.

I.e.

Treble -3 160 results in a moderate boost of bass.

Treble -2 160 Treble -2 630 Treble +2 1 is a very little loudness

Please note that the +2 is after two consecutive -2, so the resulting
absolute correction at 10.000Hz and over is -2.

Never be able to understand if the gain value is expressed in db or
what. To me is smaller than db, but never measured.

here some details: http://sox.sourceforge.net/sox.html
about isophonic curves:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Equal-loudness_contour

Hi sorry to not being responsive in those days, but too bad I miss time

BTW

the exe file is the same as the executable C-3PO.PL in linux. Is
involved when you select more than one possible output sample rate
depending on input.

Obviously is supposed to work..., if not, my fault. I'll have a look.

Changing general or even player settings on C-3PO (server-side) does not
affect in any way squeezelite settings on the client, why do you need to
restart it?

that was my original question, indeed, so local CPAN and the arch

If you are resampling with C-3PO on the server you MUST add -W to the
command line of squeezelite, othervise it will non work.

/Applications/Squeezelite.app/Contents/MacOS/Squeezelite
-o
Soundflower (2ch)
-a
100:0
-f
/var/log/Squeezelite.log
-n
MyMacSqeezelite
-W

Be aware of the name /MyMacSqeezelite is probably invalid, change it in
MyMacSqeezelite or similar but without special characters in it.
You could use the number of the card instead of the name, i.e assuming
Soundflower (2ch) is the first f the list:

-o
1

The message in the log is strange, if you get white noise you opened the
sound card...

it show you all the switches you could use in command line, something

I could not see the squeezelite help on mac, but if I well understand
the Ralphy suggetsions, you should try this:

...
 -o
 Soundfolower (2ch)
 -a
 100:0
 -f
 /var/log/squeezelite.log
 -N
 /var/log/squeezelite.name
...

You misser the 100 in 100:0 line (don't even know what t means).

And if I were you, I'll use

 -n
 yourNameHere

instead of

 -N
 /var/log/squeezelite.name

Thx, now is clear to me.

The only dubt I still have is because of that in boostrap.pm:

Code:

loadModules contains some trickery to deal with modules
  # that need to load XS code. Previously, we would check in a module
  # under CPAN/arch/$VERSION/auto/... including it's binary parts and
  # the pure perl parts. This got to be messy and unwieldly, as we have
  # many copies of DBI.pm (and associated modules) in each version and
  # arch directory.

  # The new world has only the binary modules in the
  # arch/$VERSION/auto directories - and single copies of the
  # corresponding .pm files at the top CPAN/ level.

Is that a must or could we still have exceptions (.pm in specific
archs)?

I believe it works both and mixed ways, but...

Thx a lot.

That's unrelated to squeezelite, it's an LMS matter.
Not easy to say what happen, I'll have a look to the scanner log.

On mac portaudio is used as the interface and you could choose among the
devices that it publish. It works, but it competely depend on that.

When I was using squeezelite on mac I was able to 'hog' the sound card
using the correct device, but was Mountain Lion...

Problem here is my english, sorry for that, I'll try to be clearer.

Accordingly with the README in /lib:

1. All modules specific (modified) to LMS MUST stay in /lib. Is that
correct?

2. /CPAN contains 'stock' modules, NEVER modified one because LMS, they
MUST stay in /lib (see 1). Is that correct?

The question then is:

how, in LMS (not in a plugin) we handle situations where LMS should use
a different .pm in different archs or versions?

I.e.

Audio::Scan

in /lib we have a version that is good only until PERL 0.24, then we
have specific versions in CPAN (are they 'stock'?) for 5.26, 5.28 and
5.30, but if I look at the system CPAN of 5.30 in arch, I should use
version 1.01 NOT 1.02, then I'll need:

Solution 1: an arch specific Audio/Scan.pm (is that working with
boostrap.pm ?)
Solution 2: a modified Audio/Scan.pm in lib in order to handle the
loading of different Scan.so depending on versions (in the style of the
current one, but evolved to 10.1 and 1.02).

in both cases, you then have a new
...CPAN/arch/5.30/aarch64-linux-thread-multi/auto/Audio/Scan.so, but my
question what are you going to do in LMS to handle that situation?

The reason I ask is because i need a separate program to run as
'transcoder' and I would like to use the very same method to load
modules in it, in a plugin is easy to override LMS modules, no matter if
in Slim, CPAN or lib, but I would not do that whenever is possible!

What I could not understand is in /lib we have modified modules and in
CPAN a copy of the 'original' (stock) system CPAN, is that correct?

If /CPAN is different than the system CPAN is by accident, it should
never be and it must not be because a LMS specific feature, is that
correct?

Then why before look to CPAN/arch , then lib (and the CPAN)?

What if we want to have a modified module (that should in /lib) BUT only
for a specific arch or PERL version?

Creating the /version/arch and /version/arch/auto sub folders in /lib is
not going to work if I well understand.

Could you please explain this point o me please?

Thanks.

I'll probably do that sooner or later, but now I miss the mac to do that
by my self. To get a 'ready to play' version you could use the Ralphy's
one with -W instead.

R2 is not meant as an alternate built, it was born from the same Triode
version and got support to DSD playback earlier, that's why it survived,
them
it misses (and it will never have) all the functionalities included in
newer versions of Ralphy squeezelte, because I like more to keep it
'light'.

I'm not aware of any problem caused by AudioScan 1.02 in x86

There was a problem in ARM, now solved and there is still one in 5.30,
just because we miss the CPAN for that arch.

I was using it as the player, I always ran LMS on a debian machine, but
I had LMS (and squeezelite) running on a 2009 mac book air for a while
for demo purpose, so I'm quite sure you could run LMS also on the mini.

As the player, mac sounds 'bolder' than any other machine, Is nice but I
prefer Linux and gentoo among others, never tried to run gentoo on the
mac hw, but should be possible.

The late 2009 Mac Mini with his Os (or even a newer one) is one of the
best music machines I ever had, to me, much better than the PI, it's a
pity to use it just as the server!
BTW, no needs to install Linux on it, LMS (and C-3PO) works flawlessly
on macOs.

In gentooPLayer at moment is not possible to discern the actual sample
rate, but even in other OSs when using STDIN (needed for Qobuz)
everything is always upsampled to the maximun selcted sample rate, so,
if you only have i.e 44.1 and 96 material, selecting both (or only 96 in
gentooPlayer) will result in upsampling to 96Khz of 44.1 material and
'native' playback of 96KHz, but if you also have some 88.2 or 48, they
will be upsampled to 96Khz.

This is because of a limit in LMS when using STDIN that could not be
infringed by C-3PO as per it is today.

Push Filippo to work on that :-)!

My friend Filippo should work a bit on this. I decided to use Perl 5.30
but, too bad, LMS is not ready for that.

Please ask him to work on this and solve the problem, I'm sure Michael
here is happy to include a pull request on that matter, as a workaround
I suggest you to use any other debian based OS for PI and LMS, keeping
GentooPlayer just for Squeezelite-R2.

I'm aware of some problems in GNU Linux on ARM with PERL 5.30, because
LMS has not the CPAN arch for that version yet.

For only local Yes, select all the sample rate but 44.1 in output.

This way only 44100 is upsampled to 48 Khz or 88.2, depending on the
Target sample rate setting.

BUT If you enable STDIN for FLAC (as needed for Qobuz) C-3PO will always
upsample FLAC to the maximum sample rate, that' s because a limit of LMS
when using STDIN as input.

Is working in Linux, but not in Win, if you could give it a try in macOS

Sorry for that but the Download and install is not up to me, is the LMS

Even more than before! thanks.

When running 5.26.1 you don't have Scan.pm in any specific arch version
of CPAM lib, then it uses the /lib version that loads the Scan.so
version 0.95:
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.26/arm-linux-gnueabihf-thread-multi-64int/auto/Audio/Scan.so

While, when running 5.24.1 you have
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.24/arm-linux-gnueabihf-thread-multi-64int/Audio/Scan.pm
that loads version 1.0.2 from
/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.24/arm-linux-gnueabihf-thread-multi-64int/auto/Audio/Scan.so

I bet the old plugin was working in 5.26.1 but not in 5.24.1!

If it's so, probably the solution is to move the C-3PO Udio::Scan
version inside the local CPAN under the Win32 arch. I'll try!

Tanks for your help.

YEs!

that's exactly where I'm losing my mind on...

Just to be sure, please forgive my pedantry

LMS is reporting that you are now using Perl 5.30 and Audo::Scan 1.02,
correct?

If so, it looks like Scan.pm is loaded from:

/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.30/Audio/Scan.pm

that load the bin from

/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.30/x86_64-linux-thread-multi/auto/Audio/Scan.so

or do you have a different architecture to load from, like

/usr/share/squeezeboxserver/CPAN/arch/5.30/aarch_64-linux-thread-multi/auto/Audio/Scan.so

or similar?

That 's the difference from your case and gentoo on ARM, where it does
not works and it try to use version 1.01, and i could not understand
how it could be, given the source code.

Thanks for your Help.

I'm triyng to replicat ewhat you did:

1. remove Audio:Scan from .../Plugins/C3PO/lib
2. restart

that way, in a RPI 3+ with gentoo 64bit installed, it loads the file
located in .../lib/Audio::Scan.pm that contains the test:

Code:

  package Audio::Scan;

  use strict;

  our $VERSION;

  require XSLoader;

  BEGIN {
foreach ('0.99', '0.93', '0.95', '0.94') {
eval { XSLoader::load('Audio::Scan', $_); };

if (!$@) {
$VERSION = $_;
last;
}
}
  }

and fails.

Seems to me you are loading another version of Audio::Scan.pm, maybe
from CPAN and I could not understand how it happens.
I've got no ARM to test here, so I'm depending on correct pieces of
information coming from the users,

could you please explain what you did step by step?
is there, in your LMS STANDARD installation, NOT in the plugin, the
file .../lib/Audio/scan.pm at all?

If so, could you please post the first ten lines?

thanks

In witch Architecture/Os?
Please note that it will ONLY play Apple losselss non compressed one.

Could you please post the result il last executed command when trying to
play an Alac file?

Never tried to use Synced players, but I believe transcoding is disabled
in that case, is quite impossible to keep them synchronized when
different DSP is applied.

Syncing apart, everything you ask is feasible, the only caveat is that
BruteFir is not gapeless, when used in the transcoding command line.

the one in /lib/Audio does work in ARM, and I believe is because of
CPAN!

When you tried were you running by code?

as an additional repository and let LMS install version v2.02.14 it
should work in all linux systems. I'm unable to try the download in
windows becouse I get an error pointing to that rep, don't know why,
but is working in my installation.

Please let me know about and then I'll move the new version into the
production repository.

I'll apreciate if anyone could try it also in macOsx

Problem is If I could compile a new version using dynamic loading, means
I could compile... that's still the first problem.

BTW seems iI managed to compile a PAR::PACKER valid for 5.14.1, but now
I recall why I had to distribute the autoloaded modules: Where, running
on windows NOT from code, I have to look for Audio::Scan.pm and others?

I'll put a copy of the new version in lib just to try if this solution
works in any OS, then we will see what to in the next major release.

I'm not aware in how to accomplish that, have you got a working example?
AFIK the evaluation i s made at compile time and the module is loaded,
as per YAML modules and Audo:Scan.

If it works could be the best solution.

The problem with Perl in socketWrapper was it simply hang.

What you probably do not realize is that C-3PO could run as the plugin
itself to just 'prepare' the commands that LMS will then use, replacing
convert.conf and similar, but it could also perform as the transcoder
itself, when settings requires some choice to be made at playtime, based
on characteristics of the selected file to be played, other than file
extension.

Look at C_3PO.pl, that is the main in that case, using same modules used
at setup time to produce a more specific command.

In Windows, you could not use that as an 'executable' as you do in linux
or macOs so you need to pack it in an exe.

I already have revisoned sources that works in windows and linux, but I
would like to produce a new .exe accordingly before distributing

Is not a matter of find other executables, that's works fine, I
includede Audio:scan 0.95 and few others bin because in 2012 they where
not in the standard distribution, but now sure I could get rid of most
of them, but i need to test, more in 2012 i had to 'invent' a way to
download huge executables, now is in the standard, so i coul get rid of
many parts I wrote for windows.

But this require time that currently I don't have.

but installing it with PPM does not work, tried to use CPANM, neither.

And then? The problem is not to override the location of C-3PO.exe, but
to produce it! Completely change the structure of transcoding helper in
order not to use only executables is something that I would like to
avoid. I tried to use PERL as the executable and C3PO-pl at command
line, does not work either.

You have a lot of particularity in WIN, starting form the tremendous
socketWrapper...

WIth a PAR modules works, if I could replicate that I'll release a new
minor version, if not, sorry but I have got no time at the moment for a
major review, but any pull request is welcome.

yes.

LMS when transcoding require to use an executable that FindBin could
locate in path. In linux C-3PO wrote in Perl and containing only the
main is an executable by itself, in Win is not.

The easiest way is then to produce an 'exe' with PAR that is like a JAR
for java, a simply packed code self-containing all the code tree.

That's why I surley could change the source and leave the exe as it is,
but I like more the two being in sync.

What I need is a PAR module working with PERL 5.14.1 if someone has got
it.

As it is, that's actually the problem.

I could even remove it, since is not needed anymore, but I would like to
first produce a new .exe with the same source code, the problem is PAR
that is not working with 15.4.

Back in 2012 0.93 was the standard and it was unable to read DSF and
DFF files, So I introduced 0.95.

The problem is that C-3PO to run in windows has to be an executable
(becouse of iindBin procedure in LMS), so you need to pack it with PAR
or similar. Problem is that LMS needs to use PERL 15.4.1 that is very
old, and PAR module that I could find are for 1.24.x

I faced the same problem also in 2012, I spent a lot of time but,
finally, I arranged to produce a working executable, but I changed my
development machine few times since then... so I'l have to do it again.

If someone has a win machine with the correct PAR installed and could
pass it to me it will help!

For Linux ARM it is, but for WIndows it require a new compilation that
is all but a little and easy work!

Could be. Could you please post that output? Is C-3PO working properly
in that case?

You are welcome, not bothering at all, but I have a backlog of other
requirements to consider and start a new revision require me to find the
time and the environment to test, sure I'm going to do it, but not today
and, possibly, engaging someone that could help with arm and other
platforms.

I'm currently using Debian on x64 with Audio:Scan 0.9.5:

I understand your point and feel free to fork C-3PO and produce a patch
or distribute it for ARM, I could not do that at the moment, sorry.

Just becouse it could be different in output and I'm looked to the one
coming from 0.9.5, since the standard distributed was 0.9.2, back in
2012... I could change, obviously, but in that case I'll probably go for
soxI-

Sorry but I have no time and no BananaPI to try this, but I'm gladly
accepting pull requests and I don't care people forking C-3PO, feel

It happen only with the first track of a playlist (or album) or also
when switching from track n to n+1?

If 2, it's probably the alsa buffer size/count of squeezelite or maybe
also the input/output buffer size (-b).

If 1, could be different causes. Try increasing alsa buffer, but You
could also be running short of RAM (absolutely avoid that!), or power,
too low SOX Buffer, multitask enabled or disabled depending on the free
core you have, problems in the HDD Disk/USB/network configuration for
NAS,... You need to investigate in this case.

But then why not adopt it in all? Debian x64 is still using the older.

LMS in transcoding is annoying, I know, that's why C-3PO at beginning.

BTW this error is from LMS, saying that no valid commands are executable
for input flac, that meaning somehow transcoding has been disabled (in
file types) or some executable (either FLAC or SOX) is not availlable TO
LMS or some else,
but Audio Scan and C-3PO are not involved in this case, if the command
is the one you posted before.

What in Resulting command table for flac? Is the same as in 'last
executed command'? If not, did you changed ANY settings and the file you
try to play is the same?

Could you post the complete Log?

Thanks.

That's correct. with only one sample rate in output, C-3PO uses
'standard' LMS transcoding, FLAC + SOX in this case, incidentally, the
input is the same as the output, so SOX will do nothing, but you could
try with a 'normal 44.1 and behaviour should be the same.
If you are getting white noise in the output that's not because of
C-3PO, if no errors appears in LMS player.surce, then is probably the
player. Is Squeezelite running with -W?

Audio:Scan is a Perl module not a standalone executable, something more
like a dependency to a library but runtime. I believe 1.02 is there
because 0.95 is not working on your platform, I already faced this in
other platforms (fedora?) but yesterday I did not remember. Some work is
needed to let it work with C-3PO, if you or someone else would like to
produce the patch, I'll be happy to integrate it.

That's strange, what about STDIN and enabled samplerates?

In this case FLAC is the transcoder so target sample rate should be
unique or STDIN is enabled, note that SOX will be engaged to resample to
88200 even if the input is the same (but it will not). If is not like
that, the problem is more complicated, could you double check, please?

Thanks.

The message 522 is an error of mine in translation, should be a warning
to you that you are using a no-R2 version of squeezelite, but as far as
you know -W (R2 in Ralphy's squeezelite) it's on never mind.

The log is overcomplicated because you have 3 client, but, again,
nevermind, seems tome settings work as it should, but I miss any
playback command, did you try to play any track from the start, between
settings changing and after? if so, no errors spots form C-3PO, you
should please enable player.source log to info or debug to spot
others.

Please proceed like that:

1. set flac to STDIN OFF and try playback, that should go at 192,
producing the command line:

Code:

  "flc-pcm-*-b8:27:eb:cf:ce:db" => {
  capabilities => { D => "RESAMPLE=-r %d", F => "noArgs", I => "noArgs", R =>
"noArgs" },
  command  => "[flac] -dcs --totally-silent \$START\$ \$END\$ -- \$FILE\$ |
[sox] -q -t wav - -t wav -b 24 --buffer 8192 - gain -h rate -v -I -b 90.7
-f 192000",

visible in last executed command (isn't it?)

2. set flac to STDIN ON and try playback, that should go at 176,
producing the command line:

Code:

  "flc-aif-*-b8:27:eb:8c:8d:cc" => {
  capabilities => { D => "RESAMPLE=-r %d", F => "noArgs", R => "noArgs" },
  command  => "[C-3PO] -c \$CLIENTID\$ -p
\"/srv/squeezebox/prefs/plugin/C3PO.prefs\" -l \"/srv/squeezebox/logs\" -x
\"/usr/sbin\" -i flc -o aif \$START\$ \$END\$ \$RESAMPLE\$ \$FILE\$",

That should viiìsible also in the last executed command if you launch a
playback, but you say it does not and does not play at all jumping track
to track to the last. This is typical when LMS could not build the
command, let we see the log for that.

Thanks.

p.s.

YOu could disable C-3PO debug for the moment so log it will be clearer.

ah, what version of audioscan are you running?

in the info page look for something like:

Audio::Scan: 0.95

It seems like C-3PO standalone could not run, could you enable Debug
logging per C-3PO plugin. restart and publish here the first 100 lines
after the restart?

I'm looking for something like that:

Code:

  [19-12-17 19:18:48.7191] Plugins::C3PO::Plugin::initPlugin (150) initPlugin
  [19-12-17 19:18:48.9331] Plugins::C3PO::EnvironmentHelper::testC3POEXE (153)

  [19-12-17 19:18:48.9334] Plugins::C3PO::Plugin::_testC3PO (1109) using C-3PO
executable:
/var/lib/squeezeboxserver/cache/InstalledPlugins/Plugins/C3PO/Bin/C-3PO

Thanks.

Are you running the latest versin I published form the offical third
party plugin list (v2.02.13)? no other warning or error messages?

Yes. but only if STDIN is unchecked.

That sound strange to me see the example:

28800

Changing to asynchronous:

The right version is now in the 'offiicial' third party plugin list, no
needs to use different repo anymore.

About "the best" it depends mainly on your dac and interface.

Upsampling is 'good' for many reasons and bad for others, but is always
bad, in my opinion, when done more than once, so if you have an
upsamplig DAC that will upsample anyway, no matter the input samplerate,
is probably better not to upsample also before, but if your dac is a NOS
DAC, capable to work at 192KHz, you could probably benefit from
upsampling with C-3PO, if your DAC will not upsample if feeded by an
higher sample rate, then you could try both and select the best for
you.

Always remember that dithering is necessary when resampling under 48KHz
or 'cutting' the depth to <20bit and could be useful also at greater
sample rates/bit depth. Be careful to apply dither at the 'real'
precision of your interface/dac, not at the 'nominal' one.

i.e. Many sound cards work at 32bit, but sure the dac is not 32bit
capable, in that case, apply dither at the 32nd bit is a non-sense.
Dithering over 24bit is probably unuseful, anyway, the 'right' dithering
is probably the biggest difference in the result, so try some of them an
choose the one you prefer (be carefull that not all the noise shaping
algorithm are availlable at higher sample rates).

Having said that, If you could not 'feel' the difference, probably you
are currently dithering too deep.

In the above situation You should get an INFO message at top of the
page:

StdIn (es. Qobuz) enabled, will resample at the max allowed sample
rate.

This is because I could not investigate the incoming stream for the
actual sample rate, so I fault back to the maximum allowed one.

When STDIN is disabled, you could choose between the absolute closest
one, synchronous or asynchronous (meaning multiple of the actual sample
rate or not).

The actual output sample rate will then depend on which ones you
selected.

i.e. if you select 44.1, 48, 192

with input sample rate 44.1, selecting closest -> 44.1, closest
synchronous -> 44.1, closest asynchronous -> 48.
with input sample rate 96,selecting closest -> 192, closest
synchronous -> 192, closest asynchronous ->  n/a.

BUT THIS ONLY WITH STDIN DISABLED!!!

"Squeezelite version is non R2, assuming is compliant. See players." is
just an INFO message, because a non R2 version will not understand the
actual sample rate of a pcm stream anfd play a loud white noise. That
means you could use the Ralphy version, but need to use -W in command
line.

Other than this, C-3PO was made when the Ralphy version had no DSD
support in it.

"Unable to run C-3PO transcoder, fault back to PERL. See server log."

means the executable (C-3PO) is not working for some reason (probably it
miss the X capability), the C-3PO.pl is used instead, nothing more.

In general, I wrote to Micheel to know if is there any opportunity to
point to GitHub (or elsewhere) and not to my server for the repo, too
bad my provider went default and I'm currently struggling with
bureaucracy to have my domain back, if someone is willing to host it,
feel free.

R2 is a version of squeezelite built on top of the last one made by
triode, back at the days there where no one maintaining it.

What R2 added was:

1. capability to look at the Wav header, so it could receive upsampled
PCM content. The same patch was adopted by Daèhile first and then Ralphy
(-W)
2. includes the DSD playbach patch from Daphile.
3. forget the 'length' in header to solve the problem with long tracks.

I sent all of them to Ralphy, I believe 2 is implemented in a slightly
different manner, I don't know nothing about 3.

There is no reason to use R2 today, if not that is 'lighter', missing
all the other was added to squeezelite.

action to get back the domain and move it somewhere else.

I think is going to take some time, if someone is willing to host c-3PO
repo, please contact me.

7.9.2 is not suitable for C-3PO.

C-3PO is involved only for: AIFFApple Lossless DFF DSF FLAC
WAV input
formats, all the others are handled by 'normal' LMS and convert.cof
defined commands. Are you sure they work just disabling C-3PO? that
sound weird to me.

The only one that have chanches to involve C-3PO is this one:

Code:

  flc-flc-*-02:00:58:10:e3:a6

  Command:

  -

where "-" means 'native' playback, C-3PO is out of the game also in this
case. To get that command line, you should have disabled Convert,
Resample, Additional Effects for FLAC and it should work as if C-3PO
were not installed at all.

I'm interested in the line active when you are having troubles.

About SOX: C-3PO doesn't load any particular version, it simply uses the
one that is available in your path chain.
Messages in log are warnings, still there because I'm lazy... I
apologize for that, but they don't hurt at all.

Using C-3PO you override the content of custom-convert.conf for the
enabled codecs, unless you manually select different rules in settings-A
Advanced-> files type, that you should avoid.

BTW, please first post the C-3PO "last executed command" screen taken
when you are having troubles and let we see.

The browse wors as expected, is the playback that does not works.

If you look at the pictures, the song URL is:
lms://something/download.flac, and the log says "_playersMessage (789)
Problem: Can't connect to server for::
lms://1e58b0bf-4f70-4c37-8997-f3ad91ec8a73/music/25852/download.flac".

I believe we have two problems here:

1. is not flac but wave,
2.when using cue files the URI is not enough, you should provide the
'anchor' to the start of the song.

Hope you could arrange it to work, if you need some help with cue, maybe
I could help you there, just ask.

Seems to me this version of sox still could not convert PCM to DSD, I'm
wrong?
