Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] DNS network issue
I don't think there is a plug socket free in the house for another gadget! I followed this excellent guide for installing 7.9.1 on qnap and it seems to have installed OK, although not done a great deal of testing yet! https://forum.qnap.com/viewtopic.php?f=123=111583=ba17a0060683aaa92a1fc0aa39a71bca Thanks for the help boydd_uk's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=26155 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107739 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
Re: [SlimDevices: SqueezeCenter] DNS network issue
The QNAP is a great bit of kit but as others have said it is difficult to install later versions of LMS on it. Use it for what it is good at - storing and sharing files - and as Ronnie says consider a Pi3 with either piCorePlayer or Max2Play and point it at the files on the NAS The Pi3 is (perhaps surprisingly) quite a bit more powerful than your NAS. This is the route that Michael Herger (author of Spotty and LMS itself) has chosen to go himself. PS I used 7.7.x and 7.8 on a QNAP for quite a few years but each upgrade was a PITA. I moved LMS to alternate hardware with files on QNAP ages ago. It's better. *Pi3 with piCoreplayer music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets/Jogglers *Living Room* - Joggler & SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s *Office* - Pi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / Pi & SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107739 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

What's the best stable > version to go for (which resolves this DNS issue)? If you are thinking about updating lms on the Qnap, then v.7.8 is as far as you can go easily with SSOTS without messing with the Qnap. I would say to give it up now and invest in a raspberry pi 3b, install LMS v7.9.1 on the pi and keep your music files on the nas. People here will help with set-up (we like a bit a grief and schadenfreude ) Ronnie Man in a van's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=43627 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107739 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

What's the best stable > version to go for (which resolves this DNS issue)? I know this behaviour has been mentioned before - not sure if it was fixed in any version. I'd go for 7.9.1 if possible but I'd check other thread for any issues with QNAP (sometimes libraries are an issue) The alternative would be to add a delay to LMS startup when the QNAP boots. bpa's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=1806 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107739 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter

This was the problem, restarting the LMS solves the problem, thank you. I guess I should take the plunge and update lms. LMS uses the DNS from the NAS. I'd suggest you change the DNS on the NAS to say 8.8.8.8 (Google public DNS) and reboot the whole thing. *Pi3 with piCoreplayer music on QNAP TS419p via NFS* iThingys/iPeng/Tablets/Jogglers *Living Room* - Joggler & SB3 -> Onkyo TS606 - > Celestion Ditton F20s *Office* - Pi -> Sony TA FE320 -> Celestion F10s / Pi & SB3 -> Onkyo CRN 755 -> Wharfedale Modus Cubes *Dining Room* -> SB Boom *Kitchen* -> UE Radio (upgraded to SB Radio) *Bedroom (Bedside)* - SB Touch -> Topping TP21 -> AKG Headphones d6jg's Profile: http://forums.slimdevices.com/member.php?userid=44051 View this thread: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=107739 ___ Squeezecenter mailing list Squeezecenter@lists.slimdevices.com http://lists.slimdevices.com/mailman/listinfo/squeezecenter
