The QNAP is a great bit of kit but as others have said it is difficult
to install later versions of LMS on it.

Use it for what it is good at - storing and sharing files - and as
Ronnie says consider a Pi3 with either piCorePlayer or Max2Play and
point it at the files on the NAS

The Pi3 is (perhaps surprisingly) quite a bit more powerful than your
NAS.

This is the route that Michael Herger (author of Spotty and LMS itself)
has chosen to go himself.

PS I used 7.7.x and 7.8 on a QNAP for quite a few years but each upgrade
was a PITA. I moved LMS to alternate hardware with files on QNAP ages
ago. It's better.
