Re: [freenet-support] freenet doesn't work on osx

2015-11-04 Thread Stephen Oliver
Hi,

This is largely an issue with the way Java currently works on Mac OS X, but
it's easy to solve.

You'll need to install Apple's Java system package [1] as well as Oracle's
Java 8 package (which you probably already have). For the moment, some Java
applications don't quite work properly without both. Then you should have
no trouble installing Freenet wherever you like on your Mac, and it will
still run with the most current version of Oracle Java that you have
installed.

I'm working on a replacement for our Freenet installer that will avoid
issues like this in the future, however it hasn't been released yet. Sorry
for the trouble!

Hi,
Normally, on os x, you could install this wherever you whish.
For many years, I even had it installed on an external disc.

By default though, it installs itself into your Home directory, but it's
invisible.

So, one needs for instance "Invisiblix" to see it.
It is ofcourse always possible to makesomewhere an alias that stays visible.
If in need of high security though, you can put this alias with other
sensible stuff in a sparse bundle

or sparse image, protected with a PW.

If you installed Freenet to
C:\Users\your-username\AppData\Local\Freenet, which is the default,
uninstallfreenet.exe will be in that directory.

Hi. Unfortunately this is a known bug in the Windows installer. We only have
one Windows developer willing to work on installers, and he is unable to
reproduce the bug himself. I have CC'ed him, hopefully he can help you to find
out what the problem is. If all else fails try the Linux/Mac installer from the
website.

[freenet-support] Freenet doesn't work

2010-04-01 Thread Cyrille Bonnard
Hi there,

It installed successfully but I can't connect to freenet. When I try to start
the Freenet Service from the system tray, I have the following error message:
Freenet starter was unable to control the freenet system service.
Reason: system did not respond to signal
I don't think that the problem is my firewall because if I shut it down, it
still doesn't work.
My computer is working under a modified version of Windows Xp.

If you need more information, please let me know.

Thanks

I've seen the same thing on Gentoo; its a NPTL problem. Comment out the
LD_ASSUME_KERNEL line and that will fix it.

[freenet-support] Freenet doesn't work

2004-08-18 Thread Nicola
Hello,
I've tried the latest freenet version,Stable build 5090, under Fedora Core 2
x86_64 . Unfortunately it stops at the beginning. I'm pasting the relevant
lines:

Sun java detected.
head: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
sed: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
grep: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
grep: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
grep: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory
Sun Java 1.4.2 detected.
Starting Freenet now: Command line: java -Xmx128m -XX:MaxDirectMemorySize=128m
freenet.node.Main
nice: error while loading shared libraries: libc.so.6: cannot open shared
object file: No such file or directory

Of course there is libc.so.6, both 32 and 64 bit version. And java works
flawlessly, taken from Sun's site, x86 version (32 bit)
whereis java
java: /usr/bin/java /usr/share/java
java -version
java version "1.4.2_04"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.4.2_04-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.4.2_04-b05, mixed mode)

I have also used the update.sh command, to no avail.
Any ideas?

Thanks
Nicola
