SM old and newer was Just Loaded 2.6.1 - Where is the stuff ?
DoctorBill wrote: OKhere I am again updating and lost - again ! There is apps and there is data. The SM ZIP that you download is the app. Some data is created by the app. Some data you use the app to create. The profile is data. Some of the profile the app created and some you created. Mozilla apps can be placed on any partition that the OS has access to. Note, I did not say installed. To me, installed implies integrated into the OS. Mozilla apps are just sitting somewhere waiting for you to use them. And you can have as many versions available on the HDD as you have space for. Mozilla products change a lot. Don't upgrade, have multiple versions available and delete earlier versions only after you are satisfied that the newer is better for you. The ZIP distributions give you easy control over where all the components are placed. An installer, who knows? Data can also be placed on any partition. I consider the wrong place for both Mozilla apps and data to be the boot partition. I think you need a minimum of three partitions; OS, apps and data. eCS and Win can share the data; profiles, mail,,,. Until I find something better that means the data is on FAT32. To use all Mozilla/SM versions requires three different profiles; one for 1X, one for 2X before sqlite was added, and one for 2X after sqlite. You can have multiples of each. I don't know if there is a limit to the number but I have had a half dozen or so at one time. If you want a profile for a newer version of SM that looks like an earlier one, copy the older profile directory to a name that means something to you, and tell the newer SM to use it. To be able to select your choice of profile at start-up. run both eCS and Win apps with a -Profilemanager switch. SM 2x knows to use a 2X profile for a 2X app, but if you tell it to use a 2X profile that you were using for 2X prior to sqlite it will update it to 2X after sqlite, and you won't have your pre-sqlite profile any more; actually I am not sure how much damage it will do to the pre-sqlite profile. The first time you run the newer version it will update the older profile to the newer format. That will leave a bit of trash behind in the new version, but it is harmless. Some data Mozilla insists on keeping in the profile directory. Other data you can put where you want and point the app to it. Prior to sqlite the bookmark file could be placed anywhere. Since sqlite it is apparently locked into the profile directory. But you can export it at close in a form that earlier versions can use, and point the earlier version to that. Mail can still be placed anywhere. You point to the mail location in the mail account setup. I never tried this middle click with my mouse as I didn't think it would work since I don't have the settings you describe in Control Panel/Mouse. I tried it just now on a link in a web forum and it works! I had been right clicking on links and choosing open in new tab like DoctorBill. So, I am glad to have learned how to get a new tab to open when clicking on links without having to do right click, etc. but with TBE now missing from SM, I will be using Fx mostly since I am totally addicted to TBE3 in Fx and especialy to Tree Style tabs. 10. Select the OK button to close the Preferences window. Before #10, you might also select [Browser Link Behavior] on the left side of the Preferences window under Category.
