After the trojan IcedID copy only mail/newsgrou p-parts

2021-03-30 Thread Ray_Net

Hello,
I was so stupid, that I let install the IcedID trojan on my pc.
MalwareBytes removed it (may be not completely.
My anti-virus told me that some site had installed an extension into
google-chrome and let me remove it.
So I plant to backup bookmarks by export/import in html and to copy the
current profile.

Next step add/remove seamonkey program. followed with deleting
the C:\Users\\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\ directory
Install a fresh seamonkey. the new profile will be empty.
What can i do to retrieve all the mail/newsgroup part ?
When I importe the bookmark.html file, it would re-instate bookmark
toolbar, bookmark menu and other bookmarks ?

By my experience, it's likely that the campaign has ended.  That's
really common, especially when you get bursts of spam that obviously
originate from the same source.  They will blast the world for a few
weeks, and then completely disappear. Unfortunately, it's far more
often that they simply shut down a campaign rather than being taken
out by blacklisting or provider shutdowns of spammer infrastructure.

Re: Item on CAPTCHA handling

2021-03-03 Thread Ray_Net

NFN Smith wrote on 02-03-21 17:54:
One of the things that I've noticed about sites that use Google's
CAPTCHA tool is that if I'm working in Seamonkey, sometimes it takes
as many as 7 or 8 solved puzzles before I can get past the CAPTCHA,
and of course, that's really annoying.

Something that I came across a week or so back is that that handling
is unusual for users that use Chrome.  And I haven't checked, but it
apparently more than a couple is unusual for Firefox users. It seems
that the CAPTCHA is more critical of Firefox UA strings that show
another browser name, as being more likely evidence of bot activity.

Since I do quite a bit with on-the-fly spoofing of user agents with
PrefBar, I've been playing with CAPTCHA handling.  Right now, if I see
a CAPTCHA, before I start interacting with the picture puzzles, I
change my UA from Seamonkey to a UA string for a recent version of
Chrome, and I'm finding that I see less CAPTCHA puzzles, two or three
at the most, and sometimes, only one.  For good measure, I've found
the same experience showing a UA string for Opera. I haven't yet
checked a stock Firefox string, but I suspect that it will also cause
fewer CAPTCHA puzzles than Seamonkey.

Once I get past the CAPTCHA dialog, then I remove spoofing, returning
to my normal Seamonkey UA.

Anyway, it's nice to see that there's an apparent way for us Seamonkey
users to make the CAPTCHAs less intrusive.

Did you back up your profile?  If not, you may have difficulties
reverting, without data loss.  I forget where it started happening
(perhaps 2.53.0), but as with Firefox, profiles are now no longer
backward compatible.

But half of my dear extensions used for years stopped working.

Extensions are becoming increasingly difficult.  Firefox abandoned use
of XUL-based extensions beginning at Firefox 57 (in favor of Google's
WebExtensions), and Thunderbird has now done that since 78.0.

To a large degree, most extension developers have also abandoned
support of the older structure, and all XUL content has been removed
from addons.mozilla.org.  Many (but not all) Seamonkey extensions can
still be found at addons.thunderbird.net/seamonkey.

There is also an extensive collection of Firefox, Thunderbird and
Seamonkey extensions through the Classic Add-Ons Archive at
https://github.com/JustOff/ca-archive .

As for what may work or not is going to depend on the extension. I've
found that I can continue to run pretty much everything I want, from
one of these sources.

It's also worth noting that for several of the most popular
extensions, the release notes
https://www.seamonkey-project.org/releases/seamonkey2.53.6/ indicate
current status, and links for download.  These include uBlock Origin,
NoScript, Session Manager and Enigmail.  I've also found that PrefBar
still works, but that the only source for that is from the developer's
web site, and not any of the sources noted above.

The release notes also indicate that for some extensions, the coding
may be fine to run in 2.53.6, but that in the underlying .XPI file,
they may have a max version setting that won't allow for running past
a certain version.  It's been a long time since I've needed to do it,
but it is possible to edit a .XPI to set max version to be compatible
with the version you're running.

Some of them have new WebEx-compatible updates though.

Does anybody know which future Seamonkey version is planned to
support WebEx ?

WebEx is planned for 2.57, but isn't imminent, and developer notes
indicate that there hasn't been any serious work started on
implementation.

I do have an alpha of 2.57 installed, and in the current status, the
browser pretty much works, but that's it.  The Mail and News client is
not working, and there's no support for extensions, whether XUL or
WebEx, and I don't expect any changes any time soon.

Which is likely because it also wants to use the Shadow DOM feature,
which is really too complicated to implement outside the browser core.

The next significant SM browser upgrade (possibly the last) is being

Shadow DOM (and Custom Elements) appeared in 63. Those would have to

What SM version did you use ? mine is 2.53.3

Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:60.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/60.0
SeaMonkey/2.53.5

May this website is only working in Belgium?

This site works everywhere ... You don't see the "S'inscrire" button,
because SM did not work correctly with this site.

Try using Chrome or Firefox - ans you will see this login-button.

No, because as Lemuel posted before, the site assumes that the browser
offers a JavaScript interface that SM doesn't yet have, and doesn't send
shim code ("polyfill") to provide it.

A polyfill that works for GitHub seems to send belfius into endless
recursion.

This seems correct, because the website dit not test the UA string.
Anyway ... in what SM version "polyfill" will work ?

That site (and your bank) requires a browser that has support for the

Internet Explorer and it was a no go also. Then I tried it with
Google Chrome and it works with it. So what is so different about
Chrome? How do I get it to run in SeaMonkey?

Google has its own way of how they want to do things.

For simple interaction, I've found that even the search bar at
google.com has a display quirk. However, if set the User Agent to show
*only* Firefox, the quirk goes away.  Thus, in about:config, I have
added an entry:

 general.useragent.override.google.com    Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
10.0; Win64; x64; rv:68.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/68.0

I can't speak for Internet Explorer, but with Mozilla-derived
browsers, it seems that Google doesn't handle things well if the UA
string shows both "Firefox" and the name of the true browser. I've
tested with both Seamonkey and PaleMoon, and I presume the same
applies to Waterfox, as well.  If you show *just* Firefox, then that
problem goes away.

You could probably get the same effect if you spoof a Chromium
browser, whether Chrome proper, or a Chromium derivative, such as the
new Edge, Opera, etc.

On the other hand, I've seen developer notes that indicate that where
Google is going with YouTube, there's beginning to appear some things
that work properly only in Chromium browsers, and even some stuff that
may not work as well in Firefox, especially versions older than 78.x ESR.

Although you don't' have to abandon Seamonkey, you may want to get
used to the idea that you don't necessarily use Seamonkey for
everything (remember, there's nothing that requires you to commit to
exclusive use of a single browser), and be prepared to use something
other than Seamonkey to interact with certain sites.

Smith

You said: "If you show *just* Firefox, then that problem goes away. "

I have: user_pref("general.useragent.override.google.com", "Mozilla/5.0

seems to have been brought down by the difference between "you can
do all this to make it work however you want" and "you have to do
all this to make it work at all."

I certainly appreciate all the hard work a dwindling number of
developers have put in to keep SM alive.

I will continue to use the Mail & Newsgroup functions, which I like
a lot.  I have managed to make email links clicked in SM Email open
in Chrome, which is now my default.  I have always resisted
adopting the most current offering from the Macrofirms of the
digital world, but it has become too burdensome to continue being a
browser salmon.

Why use Chrome?
Because Chrome works with ZOOM ... and a lot of sites have problem
with SM, per example, You can fill a form but the XMIT button did not
work using SM.

Zoom works great with SM 2.53.3 for me (no add ons no ext).

Perhaps you downloaded the proposed executable .exe file and run it.
My way of using zoom is to refuse, but ask the download and at a certain
moment zoom propose me to work inside the brower.
To see if you can use/open your microphone and camera, could you try
https://meet.jit.si/RAY-MEETING
When I try this I have in the bottom of the screen this text: "Audio and
video error: navigator mediaDevices is undefined"
If this is the same ... we have the same problem and you use zoom
directly by running their program.
Note for Frank-Rainer Grahl who want to  hand me a tissue :-) : I am not
complaining, it's just to understand why mister "meagain" can use zoom.

Why not using Thunderbird as mail program instead of SM ?

Ray_Net,

Because I already have SM mail working the way I like it, and I don't
want to have to go through a new install, configuration, connecting to
4 email accounts, and figure out how to get TB to open links in Chrome.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it."
I suppose that because thunderbird is not a suite, the only way of
starting a browser to open  a link is to pass the link information to
the default browser - more simple than using SM.

Probably used Issacs add-on as mentioned in the release notes.
jit.si seems to have a problem right now. Imported more webrtc

I don't understand what you are saying.
I just say that with jit.si, infomaniak.com AND zoom - all those
"site" are unsuable, because they cannot access the microphone nor
the camera when accessed by SeaMonkey.

Yes because this feature/webrtc was never officially supported.
SeaMonkey will not show the notification. I tried to make it work but
needs extensive changes in the tabbwoser code among other things.

His user agent is:

User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.2; en-US; rv:1.8.1.24)
Gecko/20100228 NOT Firefox/2.0 SeaMonkey/1.1.19

Looks like a VERY VERY OLD "override" because we see : Firefox 2.0 :-)

Works for me, the map is of Brussels.  Did you post that
comment from your old machine or the new one? (suggestion,
reply from the other one and we can check user-agents).

On my old pc:
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1

On my new pc:
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1

Your add-ons are the same?  If you have a script-blocker which
has been "trained" on the old machine, is the training on the
new one as well?

Restarting with add-ons disabled would maybe a good test there.

[ PARTIALLY SOLVED ]

I have also another problem on my new pc:  the Google-Maps site
did not accept my search text.

I know that this problem is solved by stopping SM then restart it.
So i do it - and all goes well with Google-Maps.
Then I read your post and I was playing around, on my old pc,
without solution.
Finally I re-test the page:
https://mydrive.tomtom.com/fr_be/#+viewport=50.84627,4.3547,16,0,-0+ver=2

on my new pc and MIRACLE - all goes well.
So I have sometimes a problem affecting Google-Maps and
MyDrive-Tomtom.

This problem is avoided by re-booting SM.
Now ... How to find it ? That's another problem.

Update to at least SM 2.49.5?

<https://archive.mozilla.org/pub/seamonkey/releases/2.49.5/>

Although 2.53.2 is the current version at
<http://www.seamonkey-project.org/>

In case you don't know, if you update from 2.49.x to 2.53.x, you
can't fall back unless you saved your profile before the update
and reload it - the first time you execute 2.53.x it updates
(converts) your profile and makes it incompatable to the old level.
- in addition, 2.49.5 (and above) are also available as 64-bit
versions.   If you want a 64-bit version then you download it,
uninstall your 32-bit version and install the new version.  You
only need to do that when you migrate from 32-bit to 64-bit. The
profiles are compatable between 2.49.1 and 2.49.5.

Thanks for the reminder. :)

I'm just wondering why Ray_Net is still on an old SM 2.49.1.

I think that I use the 64bits SM seeing:
User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64; rv:52.0)
Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1

Correct ?

What I will do is:
- Stopping SM - re-boot to be sure that SM is not running.
- Copy my profile somewhere.
- Uninstall my SM 2.49.1
- Install the SM 2.53.3 (I am waiting for this version)
Is it a good idea ?

No, just install 2.53.2 over 2.49.1 after backing up your profile in
case you want to go back to 2.49.whatever.

2.49.1 is x86 and if he wants x64 he should uninstall before.

64bits SM is better than 32bits ?

Instead of a plugin, consider ClipGrab at . If
you scroll down that Web page a little more than half way, you will find
a version for Ubuntu on the right side.

I use Windows. I download the Windows version and then disable my
Internet connection before installing ClipGrab. That way, I block the
installation of third-party nagware, which some consider to be malware.
I do not know if that installation approach is necessary for Ubuntu.

studio.youtube.com does not seem to know about SeaMonkey, but works if
you click on the button below.

I am using SeaMonkey 2.53.4 beta 1 pre   build by W9Gs.

The issue seems to me is that many web page designers do not know
about SeaMonkey and reject the browser since it is an unknown
browser.  If the sniffer would  look for the browser engine (i.e.
gecko) instead of the browser's name (i.e. SeaMonkey) we would run
into fewer compatibility issues.
BUT the webmaster did not know about gecko or other engine, they just
look at the brower name

And certainly never read this newsgroup mozilla.support.seamonkey.

Probably will work with a UA spoof

Doubt it will work. Probably a web extention interceptiong traffic.

I did the same and the temporary text was indicating that Honey helps

The text was only there for around a second.
US supermarket coupons are not valid in Vogon territories so I don't

Thank you. So I will just store the SM installer .exe of  2.53.3 and not

Thank you for answering, but I think that I must stay with my 2.49.1

Because: (the minimum that I want)
The french dictionary is a web extension
The uBlock origin (replacement of AdBlock-Plus is a web extension

SeaMonkey does not currently support the WebExtensions add-on api.
Some popular add-ons like NoScript and uBlock Origin are no longer

usually get them from the manufacturers site. WebExtensions support is

Is my method of passing my current SM onto my new pc ?

2020-03-16 Thread Ray_Net

Hello,
This is what i will do - tell me if i do something wrrong or if I miss
something ?

--
Before copying the Seamonkey directory .. must I remove all plugins,
extentions,language pack, dictionaary ???

--
My current pc (windows10) is nearly dead - I have ordered a new one
which I think will be under windows10 also.

I am using installed SM 2.49.1 and I have all software and plugin
intallation files, etc .. to install 2.49.1 from scratch.

So to pass from the old pc to the new one...

With the old pc I will copy the
C:\Users\tit_p\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\SeaMonkey\ directory somewhere.
when Seeamonky is completely out of the mix.

"tit_p" is my user name of my old pc.
"i-dont-know-now" will be my user name of my new pc.

then I will install the same SM version onto my new pc.
without installing french dictionary, adblockPlus, french language pack
...etc
When the install is finished without personnalization ... I will stop SM
then reboot the pc (so I am sure that no part od SM is running).

Then I will
1. delete the "Seamonkey" directory under
C:\Users\i-dont-know-now\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\ location of my new pc.
2. copy the "Seamonkey" directory under
C:\Users\tit_p\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\ location of my old pc.(copied
before)
into the "Seamonkey" directory under
C:\Users\i-dont-know-now\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\ location of my new pc.

then start SM on my new pc, and all should be ok ? YES ? NO ?

i.e.  print_to_filename   blah   blah  blah   etc  in that
Print_printer

blah blah area ?

Would that "program" into SM's config what I need ?

The only thing you need to do is to click on File > Print. :) that
opens
the print dialog, creates the pref and allows you to choose filename
and

path. Look at the replies of Walt.

I'm assuming here that in Win the print dialog is similar to Linux.

.
NO...it does not do that.  That is why I asked about it.
I described what it does when I posted this.
Nun Salva posted what I see.

My Bad ! Sorry !  It doesn't even look that good !
I did a screensave and put together what I see.

Hope this clears it up somewhat

This is a Windows issue, not an SM issue.
"Print to file" option/method is very old and often used in the years
1980's

First you select the printer AND AFTER you click on "print to file".
This is just to say: I want to convert my data to commands to sent to my
"In your example to "Brother HL-2230 series""
BUT instead of sending those converted data to your printer, you just
write those converted data RAW to a binary file.
the only thing you can do with this file is something like in a dos-box:
copy (Name of file.prn) /b lpt1
with your "Brother HL-2230 series" printer connected to the PRT port
(lpt1) of your computer.
If you connect another printer, per example "hp psc 1310 series (Copy
1)" you will just print à page with full of garbage :-)

It's definitely Google's problem.  Showing a stock Firefox UA gets
around the problem. For some reason, Google doesn't like Seamonkey.

My U.A.String is: User agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; WOW64;
rv:52.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/52.0 SeaMonkey/2.49.1

but in my pref.js I have this line:
user_pref("general.useragent.override.google.com", "Mozilla/5.0
(Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:67.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/67.0");

And all goes well .

Google has some strange dislike for seeing a Firefox UA string that
also has "Seamonkey" in it.  I don't know why.  I haven't checked to
see if that's an issue with other Mozilla forks, such as PaleMoon or
WaterFox.

OK, so you will tell me that "SeaMonkey" is not in the string ... OK,
but instead of going to google.com, I go to google.be all goes well
also - and in that case "SeaMonkey" is in the string, because rhere
is no override.

When you go the route of prefs, you have to do the spoof on a
site-by-site basis.  Thus, if you are normally searching at google.be,
then you need a similar entry for general.useragent.override.google.be .

As I said, this is a test - I don't have a similar entry so, my ua
string is with seamonkey inside.

anyway, I don't know why it works on my pc and not on other pc's.

Re: Is there a way to make SM's Internet search do more than one web sites at once?

Hello,
You may go to that page <https://metager.org/kontakt> and tell them:
--
When I go to that page
<https://metager.org/meta/settings?fokus=web=https%3A%2F%2Fmetager.org%2Fmeta%2Fmeta.ger3%3Feingabe%3Dants%26focus%3Dweb%26submit-query%3D>
or with a shortest url <https://tinyurl.com/txczab6>
, it speak about only 2 search engines; Scopia and Bing

Is it possible to add per example: Google, DuckDuckGo, Yahoo, etc. ?

Thanks. Hmm,

only shows Scopia and Bing in used search engines. How do I add others
like Google, Duck Duck Go, etc.?

I have seen that when on the page
"Edit" - "Préference" - "Browser" - "Internet Search" - "Manage
Search engines" options
you may click on "Manage Search Engines" then click on "Get more
search engines" thsi will bring you that page:

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/seamonkey/search/?atype=4?atype=4
where you can accept the installation of the : "MetaGer - Metasuche
(Die Metasuche über deutschsprachige Suchmaschinen)" by clicking on
"Add to Seamonkey"

then, after installation, you may go to :
"Edit" - "Préference" - "Browser" - "Internet Search" - "Manage
Search engines" options
and select this newly installed "search engine" and click on "Move
Up" until ti is located above all the others.

So now, you can click on it's magnifying glass included in the
"Search" button .. the search will be done thru ttps://metahger.de/
(I don't know how to change to https://metager.org/ (in english)

and the search will be done using multiple search engines.

NOTE: I have seen on the metager english page <https://metager.org/>
a link labelled  "Add MetaGer-Plugin" - I don't know if that is
better.--

Don't know if I understand what you want. Perhaps. Well, there is
MetaGer.

No. In SM's URL form box, you can enter keywords and press its
magnifying glass search icon for whatever search engine SM is set
(e.g., Google). I'd like to have it search more than one search
engines at the same time like in multiple tabs.
When I click on it's magnifying glass included in the "Search" button
