Umm, right-click the message and choose Edit as new?

That overwrites the original. Template is the way to do it.

No it doesn't. But template is the way if you're doing more than
one or two knock-offs.

No it doesn't what? When I click on Edit as new, it overwrites the
email I selected, or sends that message, so no copy is left. And yes,
Template IS how it should be done.

Your experience is completely different from mine, both for SM 1 and SM
2, and for Mozilla before it, for that matter. When I edit a sent
message as new, it does just that -- it creates a new message based on
the old one, leaving the old one intact. When I'm done, I have two
messages in my Sent folder -- the original and the modified version.

Of course, if we're speaking of drafts, that's an entirely different
story. Editing and sending a draft does trash the draft in favor of the
message actually sent, leaving you with nothing but the sent message.

It does not over-write on my SeaMonkey (2.1b1).

I send emails to a large number of people sometimes. I create the email
and put perhaps 20 addresses in it. I send it. I then go to the Sent
folder and right-click the saved email and choose Edit as new, remove
the previous addresses and add new ones. Send the email. Nothing gets
over-written. I now have two emails in the Sent folder with the same

You could use the Draft folder as well; it doesn't matter.

Okay, that's weird. I tested before posting the above. Just tried it

I think it was probably some lag in my IMAP folders updating.

Correct. That's because it's only a draft and drafts can be modified,
as I stated. The other email already sent/received in other folders can
only be edited in TB with an add-on, or directly editing the mbox file.

When i select a mail in the Sent folder and do Ctrl-E (Edit message as
New) this mail is *not* overwritted ...
... i just have on screen a identical copy of it, and then when i send
it, i have *two* nearly same messages in my Sent folder.

You CAN re-send it (fwd) from the SENT folder, you know.

Umm, right-click the message and choose Edit as new?

That overwrites the original. Template is the way to do it.

No it doesn't. But template is the way if you're doing more than one or
two knock-offs.

No it doesn't what? When I click on Edit as new, it overwrites the email

Ant, if you are trying to send the same message once a (insert time
period) to the same (insert number of addressees), why not put all
addressees as BCC: addressees and also send to yourself, just in case
some ISP's require something in the To: address.

That way, everyone gets a message apparently just sent to the individual
and you.

No, it's not that. Just sending to a group of people (BCC) and then a
few others (To and CC) with some text changes.

O.K., then the other suggestions might help.

The message copied into Drafts should be made automatically for you as
you compose the message body. It should be closed and emptied when you
send the message.

I think what you want is a default message form and content you can use
more than once. If this is the case create a new message in the mail
account you need to use and then Save As: Template. You can use the
template over and over changing the address field or specific content as
you need, just dont' save any new changes to the template. The Drafts
folder will temporarily save the new message until you send the message.

Another thing you can do is create a new group in your address book and
use that name to insert all the members of the group into your message
template.
