Re: Issue with Pidgin text

2021-10-05 Thread Eion Robb
Hi there,

Pidgin itself doesn't send any text messages, but it can connect to other
companies' systems that do. So we're not able to help. You might want to
get in touch with your service provider, Tali, to discuss.

Cheers,
Eion

You are missing rather important information, which makes me think you
don't really understand what Pidgin is. Most users of Pidgin do not use
services for which a phone number has any meaning at all. You need to
tell us the service you are using.

Chances are that your problem is with that service and not with Pidgin,
but if you need to pursue Pidgin, you will need to provide us with error
messages, and the debugging logs it produces.

The only phone number based service I'm aware of is a South African one,
but I haven't seen that mentioned in a long time.

I've taken the developer list out of the recipients, as cross posting is

RFE support link for login problems RE: Issue Logging Into Pidgin account

2019-11-21 Thread David Balažic
As messages similar to this one are (more or less) common, how about an
enhancement:

If there is a login problem, the error message should clearly indicate that
the problem might lie in the used service (a clear description of it should be
presented, at least a useful support URL)

Pidgin is a client which can use various messaging services, if you
cannot log in then you need to check the service in question. Pidgin
the project does not run any such service so it doesn't have accounts,
this is a peer support mailing list and we are also simply users of the
software.

A little more information could help us to point you in the right
direction. If you can tell us which service you use someone here may be
able to suggest some action to find out what the problem is and
potentially how to correct the error.

Re: Buddy Issue

Hi Kerry,

You'll be seeing all the other menu options greyed out if you're not
connected to any accounts. Have you added any accounts to Pidgin? If so,
in the Accounts->Modify Accounts screen, is the 'Enabled' column ticked?
If so, at the bottom of the buddy list, is the green Available selected
from the status dropdown menu? Is there any error messages showing at the
bottom of the buddy list?

Hi Rob,

Google has settings around blocking logging in to accounts from unknown IP
addresses at https://myaccount.google.com/security#activity

You could also try using the Hangouts plugin instead that has a different
authentication method that doesn't provide username and password every time
you connect, which might give you more flexibility about where you can
login from.

To follow on from what Wade said,

Are you able to provide screenshots of what you mean by the "login

password prompt if the "save password" checkbox isn't ticket in the account
setup.
What protocol (XMPP/ICQ/IRC/etc) is this going on with?
What error messages (if any) are being displayed at the bottom of the buddy

Hi Nallamuthu,

Can you send a screenshot of what you mean? Could be a few different
certificates you might be talking about.

You don't have a pidgin account, as there is no such thing as a pidgin account.
You may have an account on Oracle's instant messaging server, which is
probably XMPP based, but the people on this peer support list are not Oracle
employees, or contractors, and have no access to this server. They just get
annoyed by every other support request being from an Oracle employee who cannot
work out the proper place to get support for Oracle's infra-structure.

My standard response follows:

We are advised that people within the Oracle network can use
<http://my.oracle.com/site/git/1591/index.htm> for more information; for
outsiders, like us, it just redirects to the public home page.

Please explain to whoever should be supporting you why you went to the wrong
place, and suggest how they could fix that in future.

Hi Team,

I was working with Pidgin as this is the tool that we use in chatting between
employees. Then my account was disabled and I can't reenable it as per the
attachment below.

When I press enable it doesn't give me anything. Appreciate if you can help me
with this issue as I can't login at all.

Re: File Transfer Issue

2017-09-18 Thread Eion Robb
Hi Nadeem,

Unfortunately XMPP file transfers are a little complicated and there's no
short answer. There's several different ways to send a file over XMPP and
it depends on the clients, and what versions of the transfer methods
involved as to what method gets picked.

Since you're on Windows you won't be able to use the 'fastest' method in
Pidgin of "Jingle XMPP File Transfer" which has a direct connection between
clients, and you're probably either using the file transfer proxy (as per
Advanced tab settings in Pidgin) or failing that, falling back to the
'slowest' method, in-band file transfer which breaks the file up in pieces
and sends it in XMPP messages.

Try changing the file transfer proxy settings in the Advanced settings tab
of the account settings to those of your XMPP server, or use an alternative
method such as uploading the file to a website (eg send.firefox.com ) or a
shared network folder

Cheers,
Eion

File Transfer Issue

2017-09-18 Thread it
Hi,

We are using Openfire on Windows Server 2008 as central server along with
Pidgin (Ver. 2.12) on Windows 10, Although my file transfer are working but
the speed doesn't goes above 650 KBps,

Our internal network speed at all nodes are 1 Gbps but still pidgin is not
able to utilize whole speed while file transfer.

I am trying to find every possible tweak but not able to match the network
speed.

Re: Pidgin Issue - 'Could not connect to server'

2017-09-17 Thread Eion Robb
Hi Craig,

Are you able to get a debug log (from the buddy list, Help->Debug Window)
as that user tries to connect to the server?

It sounds like some kind of connectivity problem, but the debug log should
help narrow down the problem.

Cheers,
Eion

Pidgin Issue - 'Could not connect to server'

2017-09-15 Thread Craig Knowles
Hi there,

We use your tool in association with Zoho Support.

However, after attempting to connect a new user (with the identical setting
to that we previously used), we receive a 'Could not connect to Server'
notification on Pidgin. On the user's Pidgin, the user's Pidgin couldn't
identify other users in the company.

However, other users could identify that the new user was online.

Do you know what might be causing this?

Thanks

You don't have a pidgin account. Accounts belong to the server and
pidgin is the client. If you tell us whose server it is, someone may be
able to tell you whether that server supports what you are trying to do.

Re: Issue with our client AirCraft Inventory.

Hi Timothy,

It looks like the shortcut to Pidgin is pointing to an invalid location.
You might want to verify where you've installed Pidgin to and update the
shortcut accordingly.

Issue with our client AirCraft Inventory.

2017-06-21 Thread Timothy Campus (TeksInc)
Hello,

I am working with our client, AirCraft Inventory and everyone at their site is
having an issue with connecting to Pidgin chat after a power outage last night.
Attached is one of the error one of the users is receiving. Also, the user is
unable to connect to the server through the chat module.

I can ping the server at xmpp.acinv.com using IP and DNS.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the software on the local machine
and still receive the same error.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Issue with Contacts

2016-10-03 Thread Eion Robb
Hi there,

When you say you "signed in with [your] Google account" do you mean signing
into GTalk/XMPP or Hangouts?

Also, when you say you moved the pidgin account, did you copy the entire
~/.purple folder to the new computer, or just the accounts.xml file? If
you had copied over the entire .purple folder it should have copied over
the blist.xml file too which would have had the buddy list including
buddies that weren't on the server.

Cheers,
Eion

This is a peer support mailing list for the Pidgin, open source,
multi-protocol, instant messaging client. It has no access whatsoever
to Oracle's instant messaging service and can only guess what protocol
it uses.

You need to contact Oracle's IT department. Please explain to them why
you went to the wrong place. Tell them that dozens more of their
employees are going to the same wrong place, and ask them what they
intend to do to avoid this in future, as it is giving Oracle a bad name.

you'll need to contact Oracle IT to have it fixed

Rodney,

Most people do not subscribe to the mailing list. I think most Oracle
employees thing the email address is for some sort of commercial support
contact centre. Unless responding to a regular, you always need to do
reply all.

Serious Download Issue

2015-08-31 Thread Paul J. Schoff
Hello Pidgin,
I was trying to download your program but whenever I make an
attempt I get directed to a site showing the following:

[cid:image004.jpg@01D0E432.94BF5810]

I tried doing this from various browsers and different tabs but still get the
same result. I assume you are aware of this problem since it is a fairly
serious one given that the program cannot be downloaded but just in case, I
thought I would send you an email. The only thing I would appreciate would be
an email back when the bug has been corrected so that I can download your
program. Many thanks.
Paul Schoff
P.S. BTW, I am not an advanced IT person-just a run of the mill computer user
so if you start giving me instructions which involve words like Gnu, Debian or
Xbuntu, I'm afraid my eyes would quickly glaze over-sorry.

PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO THE VOLUME OF EMAIL RECEIVED AT THIS ADDRESS PLEASE DO NOT
COUNT ON MESSAGES BEING READ THE SAME DAY THEY ARE SENT. IF YOU NEED TO
CONTACT ME ON AN URGENT MATTER OR ONE WHICH INVOLVES A TIME DEADLINE, I
STRONGLY URGE YOU TO CALL ME RATHER THAN RELYING ON AN EMAIL MESSAGE.

This is not something you should do by a cook book approach. You should
understand what you are doing. The security of your communications is
 at risk.

In particular, you should not tell people to accept an invalid
certificate unless you understand the precise nature of the problem, and
you have done a risk analysis. If that risk analysis indicates that the
risk to the users of your system is acceptable, you should still tell
people that they should never accept an invalid certificate without
management authority. (A recently expired certificate is a very low
risk, but one that doesn't match the server should ring alarm bells.)

I currently have Pidgin setup to keep buddy list window on top
always.Whenever anyone messages me, the chat window immediately pops up in
front of whatever window i have open (chrome, for example). I like this
because it lets me see new messages immediately.Upon clicking anywhere on
the current window, the Pidgin chat is sent to the background. Again, this
is as expected. My issue is that now if someone messages me, the chat window
no longer pops up to the forefront. There is an occasional flash on the
taskbar icon, but I rarely if ever notice it until minutes later. What I
would like is some way to set up Pidgin notifications so that when i click
the current window (chrome for example) and Pidgin is sent to the
background, any subsequent messages (from that sender or any other) will
once again bring Pidgin's chatbox to the front.P.S.: Sorry in advance if
this is already a global option. I have tried messing around with the
message notification plugin to no avail. Please help.

As Ethan said, you can't. You can use the new Facebook plugin:

https://github.com/jgeboski/purple-facebook/wiki

It's currently third-party, but it's expected to be included in Pidgin
  3.0.

Hi,

I'm not sure how this happened, but whenever I start Pidgin it makes my screen
flash and it changes my screen resolution from 1920x1080 to 800x600. Once I'm
able to change my screen resolution back to 1920x1080, my pidgin application
has an odd looking layout. Can you help me fix the problem or let me know what
is causing this?

Thanks you

 Hi,

I'm not sure how this happened, but whenever I start Pidgin it makes my
screen flash and it changes my screen resolution from 1920x1080 to 800x600.
Once I'm able to change my screen resolution back to 1920x1080, my pidgin
application has an odd looking layout. Can you help me fix the problem or let
me know what is causing this?

 Thanks you

 Hi Michael,

I'm using Windows 7 Professional and
 Pidgin 2.10.9 (libpurple 2.10.9)

I do not think that Oracle uses a custom Pidgin but I couldn't say for sure.
Is there any way for me to find out?

 Hi,

I have Chrome as my default browser which I want to maintain as such. If I
am sent a Spotify URL in a buddy chat I would like to be able to click on
the link and for it to then automatically launch my spotify desktop client.
 Is this possible?

Currently if I am sent a spotify url in this manner when I click the link
it launches chrome to display a blank tab. If I copy and paste the link
directly into Chrome however it will then launch my Spotify desktop client
but this manual cut and paste effort defeats the purpose.

Any help here would be great.

 Hi,

This is probably not a specific problem with Pidgin, but you can find the
official instructions to do that here :

Google says to require encryption. Try with that, do not select the

Re: Google Talk email notification issue

2015-02-27 Thread Pravin Pichad
Hello guys,

I am using Pidgin to replace Google Talk client.
I have enabled email notification by modifying my account in Pidgin.
Now the issue is I don't get new email notifications, initially I had
discovered that in order to receive notifications I must minimize the
Pidgin program.
I did, I started receiving new mail notifications but after certain period
of time (may be half hour or one) it stops notifying of new emails.
Program seems to be working fine. When I quit it and login again then I get
notification.

I am on Windows 8.1 x64
Any solutions?

Heather Clark spake unto us the following wisdom:
We have been trying to sign into pidgin all day and it never loads.
 Are you having system problems.

Pidgin is not a system. You are using Pidgin, which is a software
package, to connect to some system. You need to ask the maintainers
of that system.

Sounds like you're on OS X. We recommend Adium on OS X, in fact.

Given the amount of people complaining about this type of behavior,
I'm wondering if the devs would now take our findings a bit more
 serious...

The behavior in the email you're referencing was a failure to
understand the Windows system tray icon behavior. (I don't understand
it, either, I don't use Windows, so I can't help.) It's not related
to whatever issues you're having.

What that has to do with taking things seriously, I don't know. I
look forward to my paycheck, I guess. :-P

 Is this a known issue?

To reiterate, Pidgin’s font selection doesn’t seem to negotiate with lync

this by modifying the font.

Office Communicator issue regarding font displays on terminating hosts

2014-11-05 Thread Scott Canaga
Hi

I've got an interesting issue I'm not sure how to resolve.

I use Pidgin to get around Lync 2013's bloated UI. I'm experiencing an issue
with fonts. No matter what font I select (either using the configuration under
Tools - Preferences - Conversations - Font, or Tools - Plugins - Pidgin
GTK+ Theme Control (or Conversation Colors) the display on the terminating
machine (which is using Lync 2013) is a copy of the end user's font.

Is this a known issue?

To reiterate, Pidgin's font selection doesn't seem to negotiate with lync
properly. Pidgin displays inbound messages from me to my recipients as the
recipient's font configuration and there doesn't appear to be a way to fix this
by modifying the font.

For example:

If my font is set to look like this

And my recipient's font looks like this

My font looks like this on the recipient's application (Lync 2013)

But not like this.

If you obtained both the old and new version from our official sources
(e.g. by following a link from https://pidgin.im/) then no, that's not
normal behavior. Pidgin always retains settings when upgrading. It's
possible that if either the old or new version came from elsewhere
(e.g. a portable install), then the settings could be stored
elsewhere and would be adrift upon upgrade.

The official Pidgin builds look for settings in a .purple directory in
a standard location:
https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#Whereismy.purpledirectory

Contacts are also cached in this same location... but note that most
of the major IM services store your contact list server-side, so
Pidgin's local copy tends to be used to augment the official list with
additional info (aliases, merged contacts, last-seen timestamps, etc).

...and if this is the case you could probably just move the .purple
directory from the old location to the one where your current version
of Pidgin expects it to be.

uh ohis there a way to downgrade then upgrade officially?

You could uninstall then reinstall an older version. For the official
builds this doesn't delete any of your settings. But also note that
this probably won't fix the problem, since all the official builds
look for your settings in the same location. And old versions are less
secure than the current version.

This story sounds weird. I'm imagining three scenarios:

1. This is a corporate computer managed by a central IT team at your
company. They chose to upgrade Pidgin on your computer. No idea what
happened to your settings.

2. You somehow have or had multiple versions of Pidgin installed at
the same time. Possibly an official build downloaded from a link off
of https://pidgin.im/ and possibly an unofficial or portable build
from elsewhere. Maybe you were previously running one of them and
you've now started running a different one.

3. You don't have an official build installed at all, just an
unofficial one from elsewhere. Maybe the unofficial one even includes
some sort of auto-updater.

In case #1, I suggest talking to your IT people. In cases #2 and #3, I suggest:
1. Uninstall Pidgin using Windows' standard add/remove software dialog.
2. Search your computer for any/all .purple directories. Find the one
you care about and put it in the standard location
(https://developer.pidgin.im/wiki/Using%20Pidgin#Whereismy.purpledirectory).
3. Download and install the newest version from
https://pidgin.im/download/windows/

Window Docking / Maximize Issue

2014-06-06 Thread Mike Smith
Is there an open ticket for window docking / maximize issues?

When Pidgin is open it is effecting other applications by not allowing them to
maximize to the full resolution of the monitory occupied by Pidgin. Even if
Pidgin is minimized, the other applications will not be allowed to maximize to
the full resolution of the monitor. Only if Pidgin is closed will the other
applications be allowed to maximize to the full monitor resolution.

Version 2.10.9 (libpurple 2.10.9) running on Windows 8.1. But, I've seen this

Win 7/Ubunut 12.04 dual boot system.. Pidgin works well in Ubuntu but not Win
7. When I start Pidgin in Win7 it takes over the entire screen period, it does
not just run neatly in a side window on the right hand side as it has always
done but completely covers the entire screen. When I use the minimize button
it still is full width but 2-3 tall. HIghly annoying. Any help in this or do

Issue with Windows7 Maximize

2014-04-09 Thread kevin . habel

To whom it may concern,

I have been using Pidgin now for many years and really like this
program. Most recently,
I moved from XP to Windows 7 and began having problems with my windows not
maximizing
correctly. After some google research, I found that Pidgin was causing this
issue

It would be great if this could be resolved with a software update in
the near future.

It sounds like you've enabled the Dockable Buddy List feature (it
isn't enabled by default) and it's either misbehaving or causing
unexpected behavior for you.
You can disable it accessing the Tools-Plugins menu from the buddy
list, then Configuring the Windows Pidgin Options plugin to disable
the Dockable Buddy List.

The only workaround that I’ve found is to close the Buddy List, then
re-open it using the Pidgin icon in the Sys Tray. The Minimize, Maximize,

Once it has found the buddy in the list, you have to hit ESC or Enter

inherent to the GTK runtime that is used by Pidgin.

Unfortunately, I believe the problem lies in GTK+, the GUI widgets
library, not in Pidgin itself. In general Pidgin does support multiple
languages, but it will delegate this level of formatting to GTK. GTK+
is used by a lot of open source software.

Although the screen shot isn't very clear, I assume that there is a
problem with ligatures or with vowels that are written before the
preceding consonant group.

Just in case your other applications are doing their own Indic script
support, you should make sure that complex scripts support is installed
in Windows (you didn't actually identify the OS).

If you are using Pidgin as part of your work with Oracle, you would
probably be better off contacting their IT department, who should then
be able to consult this list at a more technical level, if they are
unable to solve the problem themselves. Although this problem doesn't
seem to be Oracle specific, this list gets a lot of requests from Oracle
employees that can only be handled by Oracle's IT department, because
they relate to the operation of Oracle's internal servers.

Ultimately it was their responsibility to evaluate the suitability of
Pidgin, and, as it is open source, they have the option of improving, or
adapting it, themselves, ideally contributing the results back to the
community.

FYI Previous mail with screenshot failed as it is more than 100KB. So
compressed the image.

If you use PNG and avoid any JPEG intermediates or photograpy, you
should be able to get a screenshot, or at least a single window within
the size limit without any loss of detail, although personally I am not
a fan of large attachments on mailing lists.

Re: QZ Print issue

2013-10-24 Thread Tres Finocchiaro
Paris,

That is a good question.

It's all done within the jnlp now. You can open it with a text editor to
see where the jar is referenced. You can't change it or rename it since
it's verified against a digitally signed version contained inside
qz-print.jar called JNLP-INF/APPLICATION.JNLPhttp://i.imgur.com/IB3uWP2.png
.

A question : If we remove the archive attribute, how does the application
know where the qz print jar file is ? Previously, using jzebra, we used
the archive attribute to tell where the jar file is located ( or so I
 thought ?.. )

 Paris,

1. I would recommend removing the archive attribute as it is not
supported using the JNLP method.
2. Using the Java Control Panel, clear your cache as the old jnlp file
may be residual. *Delete it manually http://i.imgur.com/Fa8F70g.png* from
the Java Control Panel.
3. Also, this may be irrelevant, but I see you have nested double
quotes at @Url.Content.
4. Last, a trick for forcing the latest JNLP is to put some characters
after it (the JavaScirpt timestamp works well for this, but you can use
anything).
*param name=jnlp_href value=qz-print_jnlp.jnlp?test /*

Is this on the Advanced tab when modifying the settings for an XMPP

sender and receiver and unable to establish a connection directly to

I believe you can disable it by leaving the field empty (deleting the value).

Hi Tapas. Do you get an error message? What does it say?

Note that if two factor authentication is enabled for your Gmail
account then you'll need to generate an application specific password
 from https://accounts.google.com/IssuedAuthSubTokens?hide_authsub=1
 and use that to connect.

That sounds like the standard incorrect username or password error.

Re: Support Digest, Vol 74, Issue 9

2013-10-09 Thread Tim Barnes

Heads- Up for others: I got online tonight and pidgin 2.10.7 (latest version)
was FREAKING out with all Yahoo accounts SSL certificates not matching. So
anyone still using Pidgin is probably losing their minds. I luckily still had
version 2.10.6 on another machine that presented the option to accept the new
certificate and everything was fine. So I installed the older version on my
Main machine so I am back in business. That's the only fix I have seen so far.
Make sure if anyone asks to tell them to back up their pidgin folder FIRST so
they don't accidentally lose all their chat history.

Suppose you use Windows version and latest version of Pidgin, in chat
window you can find menu Font. Choose 'Font face'. This setting is per
user.

If you want to have custom font Globally, go to Tools/ Preferences/
Conversation and, under the Font setting, set up your font. This setting
will appear every time you chat with somebody.
