This might lead to a good thread. What was your favorite BBS program?
Was it the venerable PC-Board, the easy to navigate Searchlight, the
pirate's delight of Telegard, or something else?

Jeez, this is so long ago. I remember that in the late 80s my favorite
became one for the C64 which was able to bring the machine to display 80
characters per line. I wonder how they did it, it sure didn't flicker. I
used it on my C128, because all I had for a monitor was an 1802 which
worked only with 40 characters in C128 mode.

Anyone know the name of that program?

[SWCollect] Maxis Collectors?

2002-10-17 Thread Lee K. Seitz
I saw a copy of RoboSport in a thrift store today. Got home to see
how much it goes for on eBay and couldn't find a single copy, either
active or completed. This leads me to ask, are there people (here or
elsewhere) that collect Maxis games? I know there are collectors of
Infocom and other IF companies, EA (primarily flats), Sierra, and
probably Origin collectors.

Although Maxis is a relative newcomer compared to some of those, I
figure there must be some Maxis collectors somewhere. I don't recall
anyone here every mentioning it, though. So, anybody want to fess up?

I've seen people selling the original release of SimCity on eBay. Didn't
pay attention to what it was going for, though.

Re: [SWCollect] eBay fees

2002-10-17 Thread C.E. Forman
Obviously, you probably don't want to put stuff on eBay if you don't
think you'll make a profit, but I have some items that I figure either
will go for a good amount or next to nothing because they're not the
standard stuff you find on eBay (like that RBBS book). I've got to
get rid of stuff, but I can't afford to lose money right now, so I
need to figure out the minimum bids. I'm sure I could make one
myself, but if someone else has already done the work and is willing
 to share . . . .

I've never really paid much attention to fees, preferring to just list
non-collectible stuff and not really care what it goes for as long as it
sells. So no, to answer your question, I don't have a spreadsheet like that
handy.

ObSWCollect: Since MAME gained popularity, ROM images for prototypes
and unreleased games have started to appear quite a bit. Have many
unreleased computer games made it to the public since the Internet
became big? For example, I'm curious how far they ever got on the
computer version of Awful Green Things from Outer Space that Steve
Jackson announced some years ago and then I never heard any more
 about.

The incomplete versions of Synapse's Ronin and House of Changes have
recently been confirmed to exist, but the author has not yet released them
to the public. Those are all I know of. Infocom had some projects aborted
when Mediagenic relocated them but I don't believe they've been released
either.

Re: [SWCollect] Maxis Collectors?

2002-10-17 Thread CcomputerGameCollector
 It's a split-screen, two player combat flight
simulator from 1988. Not what you think of when you mention Maxis, but
it's
a GREAT game. Anybody know an earlier Maxis game?

I just read up on the history of Maxis, and SimCity was actually released
for the commodore in 1987, and was the first game Will Wright (co-founder of
Maxis) got published. However, that was before Maxis. Jeff Braun he
formed Maxis shortly after, and co-published with Broderbund for a short
time, which is apparently the timeframe that Skychase was published, though
there is little mention of it around the net. Contradicting release years
(88 and 90) around the internet lead me to believe it was re-released in
some way shape or form as well.
