Hi

Could someone from Sunrise contact me off-list?

We received a message about an invalid ROA of one of our customers IP-ranges,
which is managed by Sunrise.

I've tried contacting ip-...@sunrise.net multiple times already, but I'm not
getting any response.

UPC Switzerland is trying to escalate the problem.

[swinog] UPC Mailservers problems with greylisting

2017-01-03 Diskussionsfäden Mike Kellenberger

Hi

We are seeing problems with greylisting in mails coming from UPC
mailservers. After receiving our "451 Greylisting" response, we never
see a retry of the mail again. The sender does not receive an NDR. We
have seen this behaviour from the servers at 84.116.36.xxx. Other
servers for example the ones in the range 62.179.121.xxx are retrying
correctly.

Anybody from UPC here to help sort this out or is anyone else seeing the
same problem or is no one using greylisting anymore these days?

We've had our server connections cut between 1400 and 1450. I'm pretty
sure the problem was with NTT, which was the next hop after Swisscom.

At 1450 someone (Swisscom or AWS?) changed the routing and the next hop
after Swisscom changed to DTAG.

Does anyone have more insights who "fixed" it yesterday?
Swisscom only responded to our incident ticket that "Amazon uses
loadbalancers and therefore several destination ip addresses" and
"traceroute has changed since your screenshot" which is not helpful at all.

Thanks in advance for any information.

[swinog] E-Mail Hacks

2016-10-07 Diskussionsfäden Mike Kellenberger

Hi all

I might be slightly off-topic here, because it's not a network issue,
but it might be of interest to some of you anyway and maybe you've had
customers which were affected as well.

I don't know if this ploy is new, but after having two customers
affected within one week, I suspect it is.

The customer receives an e-mail with an invoice from his supplier, which
he trusts and has worked with in the past. Shortly after this e-mail he
receives another e-mail from the same sender and in the exact same
layout stating that the company has a new bank account and that this
account should be used.

The second e-mail is forged of course. We haven't beeen able to find out
where the original mail gets captured (most likely on the suppliers
client, because in one case, more than one customer of the supplier was
affected).

The fraudulent bank account was in UK in both cases, in one case the
amount was around CHF 6K, where the UK authorities did not get active,
in the second case it was a 6 digit amount... That case is still ongoing.

The fraudulent bank account was already closed again in both cases when
the customer realized that his transaction had gone to the wrong account
(usually after the supplier asked if the money had not been transferred
yet).

Have you had similar cases?

Mike

[swinog] New .exe virus in.zip file via mail

2015-04-16 Diskussionsfäden Mike Kellenberger

Hi all

I've been contacted by a couple of customers which caught a new virus in
the last few days, sent by e-mail in a .zip file containing an .exe.
(yes, there are still people out there who open these kind of
attachments if they come from a known address)

The .zip file passes our AV on the mailserver (Kaspersky) as well as our
desktop AV (Symantec) with the newest definitions.

Once infected, it spreads via e-mail (probably through the outlook
e-mail profile, it authenticates nicely against our mailserver anyway)
blasting out hundreds of mails in a single short session only to sleep
again until the next day...

Has anybody else seen this? Is there a name or details or cure fo it yet?

[swinog] Cablecom / UPC mail anomalies?

2010-03-12 Diskussionsfäden Mike Kellenberger
I'm seeing two mails which are being sent over and over again, sometimes
two to four times almost simultanously. The session somehow does not
complete (times out on our side). The mails are being sent from various
viefepxx-int.chello.at mail servers with @hispeed.ch sender addresses
and are both over 2MB. Anybody else seeing this sort of behaviour?

[swinog] Swinog DNSRBL Whitelist

2010-01-26 Diskussionsfäden Mike Kellenberger
Is the Swinog DNSRBL Whitelist at
http://antispam.imp.ch/swinog-dnsrbl-whitelist still being maintained
actively?

I use this list for our greylisting bypass filter and just had a case
with a swisscom server that was not listed (which I would expect).

The server in question was 194.11.148.23 (outmail43.swisscom.com).

Or does anyone have a list of swisscom outmail servers?

Cheers,

Anybody from swisscom mail support reading this?

We are sending quite a few daily reminder-mails from a few of our web

Swico, braucht unsere Unterstützung! Wenn Du mit nachfolgendem
Vorgehen (Roundtable) einverstanden bist und Deine Unterstützung
kundtun möchtest, bitte mail bis heute Abend, direkt an Paul Brändli
(paul.braen...@swico.ch)

What about making the site URL public so as many people as possible can set up
a mirror before the filter for original site is installed? Just to show how the
Web works and that site filters are no good at all...

Besides, Google/Archive.org and others will have a copy as well...

Hello Collegues,

Today I got a document sent to us because we are listed as ISP. You probably
have all received it as well.

Its a case of a Party A against unknown who has said something wrong/bad
about Party A. (Ehrverletzung/Verleumdung etc.)

While I can understand that Party A tries to get their right to get things
wrong written about them is being changed to correct, the ISP's of Switzerland
are now out of a sudden involved in this as they are in charge of blocking
the corresponding site.

Also what upset's me most is the sentence that this is the status of a
Verfügung from a Untersuchungsrichter and there is no legal way to oppose
(gegen die vorliegende Verügung keine Rechtsmittel möglich sind). This might
be true for the immediately accused as they had their chance to answer but for
us other 3rd party ISP's it can not hold true as we have never heard of this
case ever before and we have not been involved in this case before.

I would suggest the ISP community of Switzerland stands up united against such
ridiculous practice of judges who have no clue how the internet works:

I see two possible ways

a) All ISP's send an INvoice to the Party A for the installment of the filters.
They have caused this work so they are liable for the cost. Its not our fault.

b) all ISP's object in written to the decision of being in this case and oppose.

or both.

What are your oppinions?

 Hello

I want to travel to the south of spain, but need to be connected to
the internet during this time (no hotel, no Public-AP near to the
 place where I stay)

Is there anything similar to Mobile Unlimited in Spain, or is there
a ADSL that I could use only for some weeks, without paying the whole
 year?

If someone has some information I would appreciate if he could share
 the information with me.

 Thanx and regards

Hi all

We notice a heavy DoS attack of TCP SYN packets to port 80 since
yesterday 22:02 CEST directed against (random?) targets using a spoofed
src ip from Munich (don't call the owner, call your upstream ISP
and ask for proper filtering!). Lots of webservers and companies
are affected. Some statistics can be found here:

all the time), so I guess it quicker if I ask here as well.

 It's a simple problem: I manage a few intranet boxes (mail/webproxy)
connected to the net via standard bluewin adsl lines. Everything was
fine the last years until today. Remote access via ssh (NAT on the
 router).

Since today: no way to connect any of the hosts (about 5) : ports for
ssh and http seems to be closed, while some of the IP are still
 pingable.

Maybe somebody around knows about this thing? For example: maybe they
activated a firewall this night on all customers lines to prevent
 virus/worms problems? (I don't have a bluewin line myself, so it's
 hard to debug remotely) .

Regards a nice Weekend/Sechseläuten to you,
 Olivier

PS: in the mean time, the hotline answered and they know nothing about
that, but they are going to check internally and call back later...

I've tested some connections I have access to with a pretty interesting
result:

- Two BB accesses within AS8404, one got access to [1], the other one
not!
- One ADSL behind AS21494 works fine.
- Upstream traffic over AS13030 works fine.

To me it seems like a large IP block on Akamai spread over several AS,
rather than an routing issue.

Here some traces:

 Does 194.42.48.120 work correctly?

Obviously not, it has a different SOA serial for the .ch TLD than the
other nameservers:

tulku.nic.ar : 2008012501
rip.psg.com : 2008012501
domreg.nic.ch: 2008012501
ch1.dnsnode.net : 2008012501
dns.princeton.edu: 2008012501
sec3.apnic.net : 2008012501
merapi.switch.ch : 2008012501
ccTLD.tix.ch : 2008012300
   ^^

Looks like ccTLD.tix.ch is out of sync..

Looks like the domain is down at the moment.

Normally, if there is no result for a check, it is assumed that it's not
listed...

Hi Swinogers and Swinogettes.

Does anyone here know the blacklist at bl.csma.biz? One of our
users wanted to send a mail somewhere and it was rejected by the
remote mailserver because we are listed in that list.

Though, bl.csma.biz does not resolve. My understanding of
blacklist is, that if there is no result for the check (that is
based on DNS, right?), it assumes it is listed.

In that case, the remote mailserver, rejecting mails from listed
servers, would accept no mails at all? Now they will have
serious fun over there, since the remote server belongs to one of
the big US stock exchanges... =:-)

Oh and I fully agree that it is a very bad idea to block mails
on a single criteria.

CU, Martin

Therefore, the interface should be standardized, and the filter
software should add a header, which provides an URL for the
interface, to messages which pass through the filter.

Many mail clients (among them those of our favorite business software
vendor...) won't display Mail-Headers in any usable form, probably not
clickable anyway

It is a general thing. I would have thought swiss ISPs
buying a bit more selective based on rtt and peering being
local or close by. Disclaimers apply left and right, for
you know who I am etc. But I am really surprised, believe
 it or not.

yes we do care about rtt - but we can't ignore the prices.
it's the usual trade-off :-(
If you have to pay twice the price for peering transit as for full
transit the decision is clear - at least from my point of view.

Think about it this way - before there were 2 ISPs you had
with 'interesting' domestic peering policies. Now you have
three... I could bet with you these three do not react so
much about traffic over their upstream unless it is some
500m sustained...? I speak of experience, in a way
[..]

in the past it showed, that this bad domestic peering policies even
brought customers to our network.
You can very well explain the peering policy of a big domestic ISP to
your own customers and earn their sympathy and support.

[swinog] Cablecom Routing/Peering changes?

2006-03-07 Diskussionsfäden Mike Kellenberger
Hi all

Our office is connected via VPN through Cablecom Highspeed (62.2.230.80)
to Init7 (82.197.163.110). Last Thursday, we had a short interruption
and since then throughput is really bad.

Fredy Kuenzler said, the interruption was due to peering changes of
Cablecom to Init7.

I'm trying to find out where the problem is, maybe someone here can help
me out.

A trace shows this:

Tracing route to r1escape.cpe.init7.net [82.197.163.110]
over a maximum of 30 hops:

  11 ms1 ms1 ms 192.168.10.1
  2 7 ms 7 ms 7 ms 62-2-80-229.business.cablecom.ch
[62.2.80.229]
  312 ms11 ms11 ms 10.219.224.1
  413 ms13 ms13 ms tengig-11-0.blxOTF001.gw.cablecom.net
[62.2.33.5
]
  514 ms13 ms13 ms tengig-11-0.blxOTF001.gw.cablecom.net
[62.2.33.5
]
  616 ms15 ms37 ms 194.42.48.10
  715 ms15 ms17 ms r9.core.init7.net [213.144.128.9]
  819 ms17 ms16 ms r1escape.cpe.init7.net [82.197.163.110]

Pings up to 62.2.33.5 are fine, pinging 194.42.48.10 (TIX) and further
reveal sporadic timeouts...

Any help is appreciated!

Regards,

Mike

There is a massive mail loop (exhange server processing wrong
CC-recipient list) running all over switzerland at the moment.
Bluewin servers (mail11 / mail13 / ...) seem to have tousands of mails
 in the queue.

Can anyone please delete them and block the sender's address
 [EMAIL PROTECTED]

It's not an issure we can solve here with the spam filter, the mail
flood is going to approx. 150 recipients, but only 3 of them are
hosted here, the others receive the mails over and over.

We already informed the operator of defective exchange server, that
machine is down for the moment, but the bluewin queues are full with
 that garbadge.

Glad to see we're not the only one with this problem

AW: [swinog] More Speed with ADSL

2006-01-11 Diskussionsfäden Mike Kellenberger
By the way: What ever happend to TV over ADSL? =:-)

My guess is that this is one of the main reasons to upgrade the
bandwidth, so the majority of ADSL Users (600/100) has enough bandwidth
to offer a TV service via ADSL.

Tja das hat leider auch diverse Probleme. So bleiben die
Mails in diversen Spamfiltern hangen. Einerseits weil der CC
Server in einigen Blacklisten ist. 2. Da der Absendercheck
nicht stimmt. Deshalb müssten die Kunden über unseren Server
senden.
