RE: Outlook 2010 help??

2015-04-23 Thread Chip Orange via Talk
Hi Joe,

Rather than turning off the reminder sound for all appointments (which
virtually prevents you from using the Outlook calendar feature), I suggest you
first see if it's an appointment reminder or something else making the sound;
if it's a reminder, you could easily just clear all the pending ones so that
you can start over.

To see if it's a reminder for a calendar appointment, alt-tab through your open
windows when you hear the sound, and see if you find one whose title is
reminders. If you find such a window, there are buttons you can find by
tabbing through the controls in this window. One deletes the current reminder,
and one deletes all pending reminders (and then the window will close).

If you don't find a reminders window, is it happening when you open an Outlook
email? If so, it might be the sound played when the notification bar of an
Outlook email has a message for you. The message is usually automatically
spoken as you hear the sound. There is a way you can configure Outlook Enhance
not to play a sound for these notification bar messages.

Finally, I wrote an app named Outlook Reminder, which plays the Outlook
reminder sound once a minute, if you leave the reminders window open (it's
designed so you won't miss a reminder if you were out of the room when it
happened). If you installed this app, you could either dismiss all your
reminders as described above, or uninstall this app, and at least you will only
hear the Outlook reminder sound the one time you go into Outlook.

Hi,
I'm using a Windows 7 64-bit laptop with ie 11 and latest Firefox. I have
all updates. Since We 9.1, I continually get the reminder chime when I go
into my inbox and just want to read email. I mean, I don't mind a reminder
once but I get them consistently even when I'm overdue. They pop up and the
chime goes off and I'd just like to be able to control when I'm nagged about
something. Where do I go to take charge of this???
Thank you! I'll remind you same time tomorrow if I hear nothing!

Sorry, my previous advice seemed to work when I tested it but upon
closing and restarting Outlook the appointment chime did in fact play. I
apologize. Glad I didn't charge anyone for that ...

Ah, it sounds like holidays were downloaded into your Outlook

automatically, as far as I know.
I don't believe that there is a way to delete all of the holidays
stored in your calendar with one command. However, you can tell
Outlook to not play the reminder sound. Here is how to do this.

From the main Outlook window, press alt-F for the file menu (backstage
view, to be technical.)

Arrow down to options and press enter.
You will be in a list of categories.
In this list, press down arrow until you hear the word calendar.
Don't press enter at this point; rather, press the tab key to move
through the plethora of calendar options.
Move to the default reminders checkbox and press the spacebar to
uncheck the checkbox.

Press enter and your problem should be fixed.

This is also true if you hve an iOS device and create reminders on it. If
your reminders are saved to iCloud and you have iCloud interfaced with
Outlook you will receive a reminder chime until you clear it it on your
device. Hth.

Jo, we need some more details to know exactly what reminder chime in Outlook
you are referring to. Here are a few that come to mind.
1. If you have created appointments in your Outlook calendar with reminders,
Outlook will emit a chime and display the Reminder dialog with a list of all
reminders each time you open Outlook until you dismiss them.
2. Outlook plays a chime when new emails are received and displayed in your
Inbox
3. The Window-Eyes Outlook Enhance app is designed to play certain tones
when an email is opened that has text presented in the message's information
bar.
If you can let us know which of these chimes you are referring to, we will
be in a better position to assist you.
Regards,
Marc

2015-04-22 Thread Jo Taliaferro via Talk
I am a bit confused. This is not about appointments I have put on my
calendar. This is the reminder longer chime with kind of a strum chord and
I get it on all special days: Easter, Administrative Professionals Day,
etc. I think I simply don't know how to dismiss these. Sorry I wasn't more
clear. I never thought of it being linked with iCloud. Marc, you are too
thorough and I am very grateful for your patience.
