Who knows. Maybe there's an algorithm list platforms have to detect these
pre-processed signatures that are automatically added to every message, and
they have the option to say, x lines is okay, any more than that and we'll
delete it. Just a wild guess.

RE: New to the list, saying hello

2021-02-23 Thread Tom Kingston via Talk
Okay, Nick. If this block of text did magically vanish from within the middle
of the message, I agree. Regardless of the subject, a 27 line lecture for a
signature lacks consideration for anyone trying to read a thread. It makes it
very difficult, especially for those of us who can't visually skim over it. And
it would not be allowed on most mailing lists.

Chester, I'm sure your zealous effort is done with good intention, however, you
should consider the practical implications. An old friend of mine started doing
this a year or so ago on a list we'd both been on for about the last twenty
years. And when the moderators kindly asked him to stop, he stubbornly refused,
leaving them no choice but to ban him from the list. And those moderators had
absolutely no problem with reasonable contextual expressions of faith.

Regards,
Tom

RE: New to the list, saying hello

2021-02-23 Thread fenderwal--- via Talk
Well, Orlando. I agree, and, disagree with you. JAWS can be customized to
fit a user's needs, and, The default keyboard layout --unmodified--has some
awkward keystrokes. Unless a JAWS user is willing or able to customize the
keyboard layout into something that is better suited to their intuitive
sense, they are likely to share Olusegun's point of view.

I hasten to add that the Window-Eyes default keyboard layout had what I had
always considered to be bizarre keystrokes. A lot of useful hot key
combinations were, in my opinion, needlessly piled onto the num pad. I, of
course fixed those, as I fixed the awkward JAWS keys.

Take care,
Lou N.

While I deplore Vispero's strong arm bullying tactics to annihilate the
competition and make JAWS virtually the only game in town, JAWS's hotkeys
are far from awkward. Unlike Window-eyes, which has no consistent modifier,
the JAWS modifier is insert. If you use the laptop layout, you can also use
the caps-lock key as a modifier, which effectively allows you a modifier for
each hand.
Furthermore, every single JAWS hotkey is customizable; you can even define
multiple hotkeys for the same functions, especially if you use both
caps-lock and the extended insert as modifiers. I learned this the hard way,
thinking that all JAWS hotkeys could be executed with either modifier. Turns
out, you have to define a new hotkey or the same function if you want to use
another modifier.
All in all, there's nothing awkward or unwieldy about this keyboard
architecture.

Where's the so-called discussion? And who gave you the right to revoke our
freedom of speech. Faith is forbidden, but thy will be done. This is called
a double standard. If "Have a blessed night" offends you to the point of
taking the time to dictate how others may speak, you need help.

God speed,
(This is an act of good will, not a sales pitch. According to the Oxford
English dictionary it means: an expression of good wishes to a person

I forgot about that, because I got my window eyes long before they put

those of us who originally bought it that way got updates that way. Pam.

Hi Jane,

The only true difference between the Office version and the retail version,
other than Office requiring Office, is the lack of the Vocalizer speech
synthesizers.

Regards, and good luck,

Hi Jane, I also had used WE since about the mid 90's. Back then, I
resisted making upgrades to my system and usually didn't upgrade WE
immediately after a new release was issued. But, about ten years ago,
I realized this was not a good strategy. AT the time I was using both
WE and IE. But, as I would frowse the net, more and more sites
indicated that I needed to upgrade my browser. Finally I gave in and
decided to switch to Chrome because at that time WE did not work at all
with MS Edge. Generally, I have been satisfied with Chrome but is it
perfect, no. When Windows ten came out, I did upgrade and then I
decided to switch to a copy of WE for office. Again, I found this
generally good. I will admit that I don't use much of office and I wish
I had a better understanding of it. However, I manage to get along
with what I have to do.

As far as your situation, if you have windows 10 and want to use WE for
office, you should get a copy of WE 9.5.4. Some time ago, I think it
was Rod Hutton who posted a dropbox link to the 9.5.4 file. I have
been searching my old email messages to see if I can find the link. I
actually have the file on my Win 10 machine but will have to figure out
how to send it. I am not sure at this time.

While I deplore Vispero's strong arm bullying tactics to annihilate
the competition and make JAWS virtually the only game in town, JAWS's
hotkeys are far from awkward. Unlike Window-eyes, which has no
consistent modifier, the JAWS modifier is insert. If you use the
laptop layout, you can also use the caps-lock key as a modifier,
which effectively allows you a modifier for each hand.
Furthermore, every single JAWS hotkey is customizable; you can even
define multiple hotkeys for the same functions, especially if you use
both caps-lock and the extended insert as modifiers. I learned this
the hard way, thinking that all JAWS hotkeys could be executed with
either modifier. Turns out, you have to define a new hotkey or the
same function if you want to use another modifier.
All in all, there's nothing awkward or unwieldy about this keyboard
architecture.

One more thing. I have been allowing my system to update windows as we
go and am still able to use WE for many things. Hope this helps. Bernie.

Nick,

Where's the so-called discussion? And who gave you the right to revoke our
freedom of speech. Faith is forbidden, but thy will be done. This is called
a double standard. If "Have a blessed night" offends you to the point of
taking the time to dictate how others may speak, you need help.

The only true difference between the Office version and the retail version,
other than Office requiring Office, is the lack of the Vocalizer speech

Hey, Jane.

What it means for you is that the Office version most likely cannot be
shared to you. Butch seems willing to share his copy of Window-Eyes with
you. His is going to be a full copy of Window-Eyes professional, which is
what you want.

buy Microsoft Office 2007 and upwards. I have chosen to use Windows 8.1
because I don't have to worry about updates to Woindows which my suddenly
render WE unusable.

If no one else sends you a copy of WE 9.5.4, I could put a copy in my
Dropbox and send you the download link so you can download it from my
Dropbox.

All the best.

Hi everyone,

Doug just added me to this list, so I'm sticking my toe in the water to see
who's here and to say hello.

I was a very happy GW Micro customer, from way back when we had Vocal-Eyes,
and was dragged kicking and screaming into the world of jaws. I still hate
Jaws, and have never really come to terms with it. I'm thinking of
reinstalling Window-Eyes, but the last version I have is 9.0, and I don't
know how well it works with Windows 10 and Office 365. Anyone still using
Window-Eyes on a daily basis, and how well does it still work?

I'm afraid I don't have a good answer. Windows 10 came with a new computer.
I had used Windows 7 for so long on the previous computer, I just decided to
do everything all at once--to get a new computer with Windows 10 and Load
Microsoft Office. I expect you will find copies of Windows 10 on Amazon. It
is a good place to check the price, although I always recommend buying
software very carefully on Amazon. Reading the reviews shows many have bad
experiences.

You could call Microsoft Sales at 877-696-7786 and surely they will give you
a price over the phone.

Sadly, we will find it more and more important to upgrade to Windows 10. I
did after I attempted to secure support from the Microsoft Disability Answer
Desk about a problem with Microsoft Office and Windows 7. I was told that
they could not assist me because Microsoft no longer supported Windows 7. I
did upgrade to Windows 10 in December. It has been a difficult transition,
but useful because there are still times when I need Microsoft tech support.
I can at least receive that support now.

By the way, I have been told that Window-Eyes will continue to work well
with Microsoft Office versions up to Office 2013. I was told that Microsoft
changes to the spell check function are a problem using WE. I am using
Office 2013 and it's working well. I have not verified that WE doesn't work
well with Microsoft 365, the new Microsoft Office. Again, that's what I was
told, although from a knowledgable source.

Hi Jane, I also had used WE since about the mid 90's. Back then, I
resisted making upgrades to my system and usually didn't upgrade WE
immediately after a new release was issued. But, about ten years
ago, I realized this was not a good strategy. AT the time I was
using both WE and IE. But, as I would frowse the net, more and more
sites indicated that I needed to upgrade my browser. Finally I gave
in and decided to switch to Chrome because at that time WE did not
work at all with MS Edge. Generally, I have been satisfied with
Chrome but is it perfect, no. When Windows ten came out, I did
upgrade and then I decided to switch to a copy of WE for
office. Again, I found this generally good. I will admit that I
don't use much of office and I wish I had a better understanding of
it. However, I manage to get along with what I have to do.

As far as your situation, if you have windows 10 and want to use WE
for office, you should get a copy of WE 9.5.4. Some time ago, I
think it was Rod Hutton who posted a dropbox link to the 9.5.4
file. I have been searching my old email messages to see if I can
find the link. I actually have the file on my Win 10 machine but
will have to figure out how to send it. I am not sure at this time.

One more thing. I have been allowing my system to update windows as
we go and am still able to use WE for many things. Hope this helps. Bernie.

Re: New to the list, saying hello

2021-02-20 Thread Bernie Perella via Talk
Hi Jane,  I also had used WE since about the mid 90's. Back then, I
resisted making upgrades to my system and usually didn't upgrade WE
immediately after a new release was issued.  But, about ten years ago, I
realized this was not a good strategy.  AT the time I was using both WE
and IE.  But, as I would frowse the net, more and more sites indicated
that I needed to upgrade my browser. Finally I gave in and decided to
switch to Chrome because at that time WE did not work at all with MS
Edge.  Generally, I have been satisfied with Chrome but is it perfect,
no.  When Windows ten came out, I did upgrade and then I decided to
switch to a copy of WE for office.  Again, I found this generally good.
I will admit that I don't use much of office and I wish I had a better
understanding of it.  However, I manage to get along with what I have to
do.

As far as your situation, if you have windows 10 and want to use WE for
office, you should get a copy of WE 9.5.4.  Some time ago, I think it
was Rod Hutton who posted a dropbox link to the 9.5.4 file.  I have been
searching my old email messages to see if I can find the link.  I
actually have the file on my Win 10 machine but will have to figure out
how to send it.  I am not sure at this time.

One more thing.  I have been allowing my system to update windows as we
go and am still able to use WE for many things.  Hope this helps.  Bernie.

Re: New to the list, saying hello

2021-02-20 Thread Pamela Dominguez via Talk
Hi! I hate jaws, too! I am still using window eyes. I got somebody to
send me up to the last version, since the last disk I had was 9.0. I don't
have windows ten, but I have some problems with things, lately. I don't
know if it is my computer, or window eyes, or the browsers. Mostly, it
works for me. But like I said, I don't have ten. Pam.

Re: New to the list, saying hello

2021-02-20 Thread Brenda via Talk
Hi Jane,
This is Brenda with Ortiz from the February 2018 Seeing Eye class. I didn’t
realize you were a Window Eyes user, we could’ve talked about a great screen
reader in class had I known.

I finally upgraded to windows 10 when we moved to Tennessee. I got a deal on
jaws because I had some W-ESMA’s left. Between a laptop, windows 10 and jaws I
never did get very good at computers again. actually, when I’m on the laptop I
use narrator but mostly I use my iPhone.

Hope you and sailor are doing well.

2021-02-20 Thread Sky Taylor Mundell via Talk
Hello. As for JAWS being the only game in town, That might be the case for
workplaces, but NVDA is now a viable option and Narrator is coming along very
well as well. I do miss Window-Eyes and wished Doug and gan could have been
able to better promote the product so they could have beaten JAWS.

Yes, it's Doug Geoffray who added me to the list, and I was so pleased to
get a message from him yesterday. Both he and Jeremy Curry now work for
Microsoft.

Jane, you'd probably need Version 9.5.4! Like you, I MISS WINDOW-EYES
beyond words. Jaws and its awkward keystroke combinations send shivers over
and above my spines, yet it remains the ONLY DOMINANT GAME in town; sounds
like it is backed by some interesting politicians who are good at the game
of punch, punch and punch some more.

You did say in your post that Doug added you to the list; hmm, could you be
referring to Doug Geoffray? Is it possible that he's still lurking around
and just listening to us as often as he could?

Window-Eyes, from its grave, continues to play ball well with Windows10
despite what a few pundits say. I have not migrated to Windows10 yet; what
I have set up is working for me and I choose to LEAVE WELL alone. I am a
lot busier TINKERING WITH APPS in Androidville such that the thought of
CROSSING THE REDMOND BRIDGE is just not there for now. Anyhow, I'll keep on
running and let others set the records a bit more straighter than I may have
done. Good luck and all the very best!

Jane, if I remember correctly, wineyes 9.2 is the earliest version of WE
that works with windows 10. Wineyes 9.1 and below does not work with win 10.
That's why I too had to make the move to jaws.
