Re[2]: IMAP and Connection Center

2004-07-10 Thread Terry
Hi Peter,

On 10 July 2004 at 02:01, Peter wrote:

From my experience, using CC setting Automatically (Options |
 Preferences | Display Connectiom Centre):
 - using only POP accounts, the CC shows in the task bar when active, and
disappears from the task bar when it's finished.
 - after adding that one IMAP account, which is set to just check every 5
minutes, the CC shows in the taskbar from the moment I start TB,
constantly showing the task to the fastmail.fm IMAP account.

I can confirm that, and I believe it is the correct behaviour (maybe
not the desirable one though) since the IMAP account is connected to
the server. The connection's just not doing anything.

I have tried a number of different combinations of settings for IMAP
and some will make the box disappear after a period of time. An
unfortunate side effect of those combinations, however, is that the
connection doesn't always reestablish or is much slower to establish
when you click on a folder in the account again. (At least that's my
perception. I haven't spent time testing it.) I've resorted to setting
the Display Connection Centre under Options/Preferences/General to
Hide.

I would like it to show, in the taskbar, only when _really_ active,
connecting to the IMAP server. As I wrote before, for now that one IMAP
account is just sitting there, not really being used.

I mainly used the Connection Centre as a way to tell that I had a
problem. If it stayed open (when I was using POP accounts) that was a
sure-fire way to tell that I had a problem. I've got 12 accounts and
with the current system, I have to check the log for each one if I'm
having a problem. My first preference would be an implementation of
some type of error notification. Then I'd only need to call the
Connection Centre via the shortcut keys if I was having a problem and
needed to look into it further.

 Smiley/Rogue improvements:
Popup menu on headers pane have new features to enable/disable image,
fit headers to image size, allowing to automatically download missing
 smileys/rogues.
What a nice feature, but i'll missing an option: To set a specific size
 for header (eg: 90x90).

The feature should be to set a specific size OR BIGGER than that. Important
for mails where more header data is shown than in must of the other mails,
like X-Mailer, CC and BCC.

I played a bit with the size to image, find it very awkward. With
144x120 images the picture gets a bit obtrusive - and if you've chosen
only a few headers to be shown the gray area [bad pun] gets evil

Depends, usually when I change the subject line within a thread I just
answered to another post. I then open the Reference header and delete
all but the last or rarely the second to last. IIUIC, this should
result in a new thread. Haven't really followed this conjecture, yet.

Re: The Bat! 2.12 RC/1 is now available

2004-07-10 Thread Martin Sebald
Hi all,

IMAP still does not work very well. When I synchronize with the server,
mails do not get filtered to local folders as they should (I set filters
that should move the mails to local POP3 folders, but mails only get copied
to these folders and remain in the IMAP folders). Also all mails (which are
unread) in one folder get the read flag at once simply by clicking on the
folder.

9Val showed me how filtering works: Connecting to the server (not
synchronizing) with CTRL-F2, then clicking on the folders you want to
filter. The filter gets executed and filters the mails as it should.

Regards,
Martin

Design issue. Anyone can set X-Rogue headers as he or she wants to ...

Don't you think that rogues only depend on the sender's email
address?

So my proposal is to

  (a) Look up rogues only with the sender's email address as the key.
  (b) Change the X-Rogue header to just say »X-Rogue: Yes«.
  (c) Change the rogue database to store more than one email
addresses per entry (people usually have more than one mail
  address)

(or use picons ...)

Comments?

BTW it's quite simple to annoy TB! users these days. Setting the
X-Mail-Chat header, setting someone else's rogue header, using
symbols that TB! replaces with strange symbols. Hm.

BTW, you can delete test account, thanks.

 Here are my observations:

 1. I have Account/Properties/Options/Mark Message as read when it is
being read for 2 seconds (I mention this because it may make a
 difference) set.

 2. Yes, it happens on every folder (all IMAP) every time there is a
new message and I have focus in that folder.

I bring up point #1 because if I change the Mark Message as read when
it is being read [for 2 seconds] to Mark Message as read only when it is
open in a separate window I get a totally different indication. That
being when a new message is received, the message list pane and the
message pane (below) refresh very slowly, the panes go blank for a
split second and then refresh and return where I was before.

Either way, it is annoying and inconvenient. I did not have this
problem with Beta/1 BTW. With that release, the message list pane
refreshed but the message pane remained static.

I hope this makes sense. It is a little difficult to articulate.

BTW, thanks for testing and getting the trash delete to work. If you
need access again, just let me know.

It just now happened again with Mark Message as read only when it is
open in a separate window so this apparently isn't the cause. A new
message comes in (to an IMAP folder), the highlight in the message
list window goes to the top of the list and the message pane shows No
Message Loaded.

I'll have to include that in the ZIP file.

After the beta becomes release, I guess the only reason to download
the .ZIP file would be for newbies who want to start using smileys and
Roguemoticons.

We could just point them to the URL to create an account and then they
grab the .ZIP file which will have the auto-load-urls.txt.

Users who are already using Roguemoticons will not want to download
the .ZIP so it doesn't overwrite their existing one in case they have

Have anybody black square without window creation (opening folder
 view, starting program)?

MF No, this happens only when opening a message by double-click.

`--[end quote]

Not necessarily. I also got the dreaded black square upon starting TB. However,
present Ctrl-Stift-Alt-t did replace the square with someone's picture (maybe I like
the black square better  )

Just one little correction: Not all images in the Rogues Gallery are

people). I do remember at least two that were not.

Yes. It would seem so though I didn't test for long.
I agree

 How often it happens?

Often enough that I wonder if each message I'm reading will suddenly
disappear. It seems to happen with sync operations that add new
 headers.
Agreed

Does it happen only after new message appearing?

 It would seem so, yes.
Agreed

My experience is a little different from the bug report in that I
never see the message I was reading again. I have to search for it
 manually.
Agreed.

Hello TBBeta,

I seem to have overcome my Rogue issues by erasing the listings
in the PDFS2.msl and restarting. All works perfectly now
regardless of whether a sender is in my ADB, in my ADB with

If I had to guess, it looked like a struggle for rogue image
rights among files and the ADB.

Thanks for everyone's advice. Hope I helped a bit in some way
also.
