TB Slow shutdown speed

2008-12-17 Thread Robert van der Hulst

With the steady stream of new build, I have to shutdown TB almost
everyday to try the new builds (I usually keep it running 24/7).
And now I have noticed that shutting down TB takes quite long.

There was an issue before (https://www.ritlabs.com/bt/view.php?id=6831).
This issue was closed last march, but I have reopened it.

Some statistics:

5 seconds until UI disappears
180 seconds (3 minutes !) until program disappears from memory
almost no processor/network activity in the meantime

Windows Vista Business 64, SP1, 8 Gb
Intel Core Duo 6400 2.14 GHz
TB Memory usage 35 Mb (Peak 47 Mb)

Message Base:
4 accounts
335.000 messages
15 virtual folders

Message base 4 Gb, in 52 directories located on Gigabit LAN.

Is anyone else seeing this too ?

Could you please be so kind and show me/us just one software, which
is finished, i.e. *no* further work/improvement is needed, and which
is completely bugfree, i.e. no further bugfixing/service packs are

Forte Agent is an example of such software.

And you want to to tell me that Forté Agent is completely bugfree? If

Development-wise, Forte Agent is the complete and absolute opposite

Re: Need help to find an alternative for TB

2008-12-17 Thread graham
A few months ago I went through this process and tried almost every email
client out there. I came back to TB! for the following reasons
(a) Other applications were slower /more bloated on my netbook
(b) Other applications were usually missing features I'd become used to in TB!

The closest was Thunderbird, but it required so many add-ins to provide
similar functionality that it slowed to a crawl. I'm hopeful that Thunderbird
3 (when announced) will address these issues.

So I'm staying with 4.0.x until I see the next Thunderbird release
(Jan/Feb '09) and then I'll decide. I'm only a POP3 man so I'm not worried
about these IMAP discussions. Previous participants are right - that TB! has
been promising improved IMAP for years, and they have re-written it more than
once.. so I'm not sure what elese they can do.

(I tried IMAP in Thunderbird - aand didn't see what the fuss was about... :)

Moin, Jens!

if i mark a word in Plain Text Editor and i do a SHIFT-Left there is not
one character less than before, but only the first one marked or only
the first 3 marked - something like that...

Did you highlight the word via double-click? If yes, I can confirm:
The marked part of the word will be inverted up to the position of the
cursor, e.g. double-click on the word curiosity:

- curiosity is highlighted and cursor position may be between o
  and s

- [shift] + [-] - curi is highlighted

I don't know if this a bug or not. – I don't mind about that specific
issue. ;-)

Did you highlight the word via double-click?

Exactly.

 I can confirm:
The marked part of the word will be inverted up to the position of the
cursor, e.g. double-click on the word curiosity:

 - curiosity is highlighted and cursor position may be between o
   and s

 - [shift] + [-] - curi is highlighted

I don't know if this a bug or not. – I don't mind about that specific
 issue. ;-)

It just attracted my attention, because i never saw this before...

is there a set of icons available which are at least twice is big as the

Do you mean just toolbar icons or all icons that are used in TB's UI

If possible both, but if not available, then what there is.
They're too small for me, so I have to use the menustructure all the time.

That's what you get with the Classic windows them, I've just verified
it. Try the Windows XP one and you will see them like I do.

Sorry Jens, I just remembered you are using Win2K.

I figured out, right now, that it could not work for me :-)

What is the total size of this Import, the Video did not show?
Are this big messages?
Are there Attachments inside?
From where did you get this messages, are they from The_Bat?

I use NOD32 and have it configured to only scan files when creating
them. If a file was scanned when written on disk, I think it is a waste
of resources scanning it every time it is opened or executed.

this is strange thing, because when I am writing in Microed into header or

I have discovered this today in 4.1.1.7 for the first time.

I have been noticing little pauses for some months when I am editing
a message text in MicroEd at times (I seldom use .html, so don't know
if I get it there also). I haven't worried about it, thinking it might
be my BitDefender Suite, but perhaps, since you mentioned it, it could
be something in TB. I have no idea! Perhaps I should turn off
BitDefender and see if I ever get those pauses then. Hmmm... I will
let you know if those periodic editing pauses continue with BD off.

an option button turns a red-orange color and is easy to see.
