Thanks batters!

2005-04-18 Thread Lynn

Hi all -

Just to thank Mary and Tony and others who helped out with this
batch file for backing up TB - went perfectly, except that I had
to manually import the key for some reason (no doubt I missed
something when editing the file paths), but it worked
beautifully.

I can't tell you how grateful I am!

TB My batch file, which is actually Januks batch file does exactly that. It
TB backs up the reg entries, zips up the whole TB! directory and writes it to
TB CD well, SD flachcard here anyway.

TB And you don't need to reinstall fresh before restoring your backup, just
TB unzip it into Program Files, run the reg file and it's done. All you'll
TB need to do is create a new shortcut for it which is what would be done for
TB you should you install fresh first.

That's a very attractive proposition - thanks to you and Januk,
and also Mary who did send me the script.

I hate reloads, but you've removed the actual trauma from the
process!

SH I don't know if it's possible to get the path of all of the installed
SH plugins from somewhere but you can make sure that your plugins are
SH properly added to the archive by adding the relevant paths to the last
SH line of the script. So, for example, mine reads

SH C:\Progra~1\WinRAR\WinRAR.exe a -u -as C:\email\TBBackup.rar
SH C:\Program Files\The Bat! C:\Program Files\MyGate C:\Program
SH Files\Universal Macro Extender

Thanks for this too - I'll have to scrutinize the folders to see
what actual plugins are there; I abandoned Bayesit when I found I
could filter it on the server more effectively, but there may be
other stuff - thanks for the heads up!

Backup issues?

2005-04-06 Thread Lynn

Hi Batters -

I have an emergency going on here; I installed a db package which
has somehow trashed most of my executables, my Palm db, and
apparently the install/deinstall controls on my system. It looks
like I'm going to have to wipe the boot partition and reinstall,
because nobody can figure out what exactly has happened, or the
extent of the damage.

The last time I did a backup from TB, the recovery wasn't exactly
graceful - that was the Christmas release version of v3, if I
remember correctly - I think there was an upgrade after that one?
I've kind of been waiting (hoping?) that a more robust release
was around the corner, but ..

anybody know of anything I can do to back this up without losing
too much data? My folders are really too big to sit and save each
to text files, and some of it really is mission critical stuff.

It's sitting on a high partition, and the accounts are POP
accounts - also have lots of big filters.

Oh .. yes, this is a beta version :-( That's why I'm asking
here.

tia -

L anybody know of anything I can do to back this up without losing
L too much data? My folders are really too big to sit and save each
L to text files, and some of it really is mission critical stuff.

TF Export the registry key into the TB directory. Zip the whole TB
TF directory.

TF After you have reinstalled your OS, install TB new from scratch
TF (download the current version from the Rit site).

TF Then close TB, unzip the zip file created above into the directory
TF (overwriting everything you might have created there), then import the
TF reg key into the registry.

TF When you now open TB, all should be exactly the way it was before the
TF crash. If not, we'll go into your folders directly. Let me know if
TF necessary.

If I were a betting person, I'd be inclined to bet that that's
just what Tony's batch file does ... will let you know how this
comes out, and thanks!

D the log shows the mails as downloaded but they are still on the server

some error messages in the log are actually generated by the
server .. I haven't yet figured out any sure-fire way to identify
which is which, but if the log says they've been dl'd but
haven't, I'd be inclined to think the message was generated by
the server.

I was able to straighten out some stuff with one isp I had by
sending him all my log files .. but it took me nearly two months
to figure out that the messages were being generated by his
server, not my system :-)

Re[2]: Wrapped .33

2004-10-14 Thread Lynn

10/14/2004

MB I really didn't think that I had the computer skills to be able to
MB contribute, among the really able people on a list where I'd been
MB lurking for awhile.

Beta testing is less a matter of computer skills per se, than it
is a matter of using the software enough to find out where it
breaks, and being willing to document what happened and where.

Well, and taking the risk that something will break that will
require some technical expertise in the recovery, but that's not
going to happen here, eh? lol!

I should probably not be doing it, for lack of time, but the only
problems I'm having at the moment (.33 loaded fine, only one
entry in the add/remove programs list, haven't seen the other
problems people have been having) is with the NFS, but as that
may be operator error, I'm still tweaking it.

Nothing but party, party, party :-)

I just tried, and I expect that starting a line in the

could have changed the subject line to \Re: Cannot start
subject with \ or \\Re: Cannot start subject with \ - up
to the point where I hit the 'send' button, at least.

Let's see if it goes through :-) Sorry about the

SH 3. As has oft been reported, if you type some text in the subject and
SH tab out the text 'jumps'; if there is a '\' as the fist character this
SH doesn't appear to happen.

This time I did it and tabbed out, and if it comes through
