AB> I have same problem with pop. Happens mainly with HTML messages.

I have opened a few dozen mails; my experience:
- I see no difference between an IMAP and a POP-account
- mail window sent to background never happens with text mails
- mail window sent to background sometimes happens with HTML mails. I
have a feeling that it correlates with the time it takes to open the
mail viewer window. If it opens right away, it stays in the
foreground. If it takes bit (half a second) it moves to the
background.

So, confirmed.

it works nicely here. Thank you.

A few things:

* A few of the window icons are still missing, like Move messages

   * What is the future of the Image Download Manager? I really loved

That is a good start.

However, I would like to ask Ritlabs about the future of the Image Download
Manager. In addition to the current "allow all" and "allow nothing" the IDM
allows
selection of downloadable content on a variety of criteria. Especially
if some helpful images can be downloaded from domain A and a tracking
pixel from domain B can be blocked.

It would be a shame to discard such a helpful tool that allows users
to finely balance between content and security.

In earlier versions Ctrl + C used to call dialogue "Copy message(s) to" and
Ctrl + T used to call "Move message(s) to".

Now both short cuts call the dialogue "Copy message(s) to".
For these two actions no short cuts are specified in customizer.

* Icons of child windows are missing (editor, address book, ...).
* Running TB! from pinned task bar icon is not possible.
* After minimizing TB! and maximizing there is a grey empty space
right below the menu bar. Switching messages makes it go away.

Positive:
* I already saw that a few of my reports in Mantis can be closed now. I
will update them.
* F5 for starting a new message works again. This small thing is maybe
the biggest hurray for me right now.

I'm not sure, what you mean by "replace with new executable"; here is

Delete old task bar icon
Start TB! via Exe-doubleclick
Add it to task bar while in running state
Close TB!
Start it via task bar icon gives the aforementioned errors.

OK, I see.
In that case I need to point out a distinct performance issue to you,
that was not present in 9.0.0.9.

Mail related actions (like switch to another mail in message list via
keyboard or mouse or change to a different folder) take close to one second
to complete. During this time the icons of the toolbar are heavily
flickering.

This seems not tbuser.or userdef.xml related: This also happens when I
rename both files before starting The Bat!.

I cannot entirely confirm.

Good:
Adding a short cut to the toolbar is stored and restored after

Bad:
Moving an existing icon to another position is moved back to the
original position after program restart.
Deleting a short cut does not work either, after program restart it

Yes, please!

And why not use the possibility to actually rework the menu to make it
more streamlined and less filled with buttons you might only need once
a year?
For example: New account and Delete account. How often does an average user
create new
accounts. Does this action really need a place in the "Special"s menu
or could it go to the yellow The Bat-Ribbon?

OK, maybe this was not well described on my end.
I don't mean sub groups in the sense of sub menues which open on
MouseOver or Click.
I meant an optical group as you can see it in the tab "Options".
The second "Options" and "Select Skin" are what I think to be called
sub groups.

I realized that, too.

IMO the home tab (in MS Office it's the File-tab) is the perfect place for
the contents of the ribbons "Options" and "Help".

Also, the "Exit" Button should move from the Message-Tab to the
Home-Tab, last entry there.

As a general thought: Currently the ribbon layout is not really more
than a reformatted menu bar. I#m quite OK with ribbons in general but
at the moment it doesn't use the possibilities that a ribbon offers,
like sub groups. As an idea to show what I mean: Take the tab
"Message" for example:

Tab Message
 Sub group "Communicate" contains actions
 New
 Reply
 Reply to all
 Forward
 Forward as text
 Forward as attachments
 Resend
 Redirect
 Edit as new
  Sub Group "Categorize" contains actions
  Flags
  Colour Group

  Memo (was Memo Editor)
   Sub Group "Organize" contains actions
   Move to Folder
   Copy to Folder
   Save as
   Delete
Sub Group "Print" contains actions
Print

Print Setup

What are you thoughts, readers?

You are right, but maybe not everyone wants to/can use MS Crypto API.

Address book: Sometimes very slow, sometimes Out of System Resources

2019-02-13 Thread mse
Hello all,

I'm facing a problem with address book. Maybe someone else, too.

Three days back I realized that when opening the address book window,
the list of available address books is displayed very slowly. You can
watch the list grow; switching between address books takes about 3
seconds. A GIF is shown here:
https://www.batboard.net/index.php/Attachment/5844-Adressbuch-langsam-gif/

Dragging the address book window on title bar is also slow. When
changing address books, the system workload increases from about 3% to
about 30% for these two or three seconds that it takes.

Version 8.8 does not load address book altogether. Instead I get an "Out
of system resources"-message and The Bat has to be killed via Task
Manager.

I also know that I have used address book normally about two weeks
back. However, some versions I tested back to Version 8.7.0 all showed
a similar behaviour. The rest of The Bat works perfectly fine (Editor,
SmartPad, search, quick templates, sorting office, ...).

I suspect that this is not The Bat's fault but rather some 3rd party
related issue. I just have no idea how to find that out...

@Ritlabs: Could the extract from thebat_exceptions point into a
direction? I attached one here.

Thank to everyone.

Best regards,

Three High-DPI Issues with color chooser

2019-01-19 Thread mse
Hello all,

1) Color chooser is unneccessary long. See screenshot "Color Chooser

2) Desciptive text is malpositioned. See screenshot "Color Chooser
High DPI - Blank Space". The text that names the UI element is between
the colors to choose.

3) The color chooser is vertically compressed in some places. See
screen shots "Color Chooser High DPI - Vertically compressed 1", ...2
and ...3. For example in Preferences / Edit Color Groups or
Preferences / Header Layout or Preferences / Profile Layout. There
might be more.

IMAP: Reverting to color group / Removing a color group from mail does not stick after folder change

When you want to remove a color group from a mail a.k.a. selecting
this is not possible. On first glance it looks like

2018-11-18 Thread mse
Hello all

MMvT> [-] Address book / Search for Duplicates: Fixed issue with AV
MMvT> when wizard is executed second time
This is fixed.

I have another concern:
When there are no email-addresses saved in two different address book
entries, the find duplicates wizard detects two different addresses to
be the same, despite the name being different. The checkbox to compare
email-addresses is ticked.

While it is technically correct that two empty values are identical it
does not make real sense in this situation. It is very much possible
to have addresses saved in the book with names and telephone numbers
only. You could uncheck the box to compare mail addresses and compare
by name only, but then you would miss duplicates that have indded the
same mail addresses.

Idea: Only use the mail address as a comparative criterion when the
text box is not empty. When the text box is empty, use the next
criterion in the list (Display Name or First Last Name).

See screenshot attached here:

Yes, they work.

Two more things:
* The toolbar "Plain Text Formatting" is not hidden when HTML-Editor

emoticons (they all work BTW, but they are not necessary).

* There is still an empty toolbar and the duplication issue in

I would suggest to increase the contrast of the three icons or change

deactivated function. Look at the screen shot here:

* The icons for text justification or enumerations look activated and

deactivated.

M> AFAIK this has always worked that way.

you're right and wrong on that.

You're right with pointing out that there is an easy way to register
the software. You know that, I know that and probably all the people
from that list know that, too.

You're wrong, however, that there is no need for an additional way at
all.

As I pointed out out in my last mail, I am not asking for me or for
help here. I was communicating the fact that two people alone in the
last week (that asked on the board and also contacted Ritlabs support)
did not know about a) the automatic pasting of the code if the
registration mail was selected, or b) Ctrl + V short cut. This proves
that there is an (admittedly small) group of users who would benefit
from a paste button.

I cannot confirm right now, but I guess it is faster to add a paste
button to the GUI once, than repeatedly answering the "How do I paste
the registration key"-question. So it might also be a net win for
Ritlabs.

Hello all,

On the German support board we had twice the question last week, that
people were unable to register The Bat!.

The reason was that they did not know the short cut Ctrl + V to insert

@Ritlabs
Adding a button "Paste from clipboard" or something similar would
reduce the amount of questions to both of us a bit and make
registration for some users easier (especially those who prefer using

CardDAV: Mapping of fields - Initial sync from Mailbox.org to The Bat

2018-01-25 Thread mse
Hello all,

with the updated CardDAV-Synchronization I also checked the other way
round: Transferring addresses from Mailbox.org to The Bat.

Again test setup is in the signature.

tl;dr: When transferring an address from mailbox.org to The Bat via
CardDAV, after two synchronizations you have three duplicated phone
numbers and three lost ones on the Mailbox.org GUI.
Direct import of a vcard-File works a lot better. The number mapping
matches the expectations.

And here in detail:

* On first sync, the field "Telephone (Other)" gets transferred from
Mailbox.org into the field "Home Telephone" (Tab Personal). There is a
field in MO available ("Telephone personal") which should be used
here. This mismatch leads to further problems: with second
synchronization, the field "Home Telephone" (Tab Personal) gets sent
back from TB to MO where it overwrites the number in the field
"Telephone personal". Therefore, the phone number in "Telephone
(Other)" is duplicated in MO into the field "Telephone personal", the
the number in "Telephone personal" is lost there.

* Same thing happens with mobile phone numbers: On first sync, the
field "Mobile phone 2" gets transferred from Mailbox.org into the
field "Car/Cellular" (Tab Personal). There is a field in MO available
("Mobile phone") which should be used here. With second
synchronization, the field "Car/Cellular" (Tab Personal) gets sent
back from TB to MO where it overwrites the field "Mobile phone".
Therefore, the number in the field "Mobile phone 2" gets duplicated in
MO into the field "Mobile Phone", the number in the field "Mobile
phone" gets lost.

* And a third time with business phone numbers: On first sync, the
field "Business phone 2" gets transferred from Mailbox.org into the
field "Phone" (Tab Business). There is a field in MO available
("Business phone") which should be used here. With second
synchronization, the field "Phone" (Tab Business) gets sent back from
TB to MO where it overwrites the number in the field "Business phone".
Therefore, the field "Business phone 2" gets duplicated in MO, the
field "Business phone" gets lost.
