Dialing (was: No Subject)

2000-04-28 Thread Marco Rinck

Hi Jason,

JT Never had this problem. Perhaps the first dialing attempt is failing
JT immediately, causing TB to wait for a redial quickly? This could be caused by a
JT modem driver problem, no dial tone, external modem off or unconnected...

Nope none of this. TB dials always correctly ... if it dials ...

I have set the pause between dials to 5 secs but I think this is a bit
unsatisfying.

Do you mean reading or writing?

If you mean reading, I know what you mean, GB2312 is not mentioned in
the list. It it missing like UTF-7 and -8 are missing. What kind of
Windows do you use? Does it have internal conversion? In my Chinese
Windows (Taiwan), Big5 conversion is integrated, so I read Big5
encoded Chinese characters fine.

If you mean writing, I just checked and found out that all my messages
are written in ISO-8859-1, and I don't know where to change this. Even
messages I receive with charset="Big5" are replied to with
charset=ISO-8859-1. Messages in Chinese can be written without any
problems, I toggle English/Chinese with ctrl-shft.

Quite a few people were complaining that their anti-virus software was

nope, I checked it:

Quote:
I don't know where the file was being downloaded from - whatever's set up on
CNET for this file, I guess. I use both McAfee and Solomon on my PC, and it
complained about a virus, though I can't remember the name. Probably a
corrupted file, but I'm not taking a chance with Bat right now.

Is it a good product?

EOQ..

Not sure that last sentence is qualifying for a review but anyway as
Macafee had for a while Symantec borrowed code inside it, likely they
had the same problem...
Symantec had used a student who wrote a Thesis to write some of that
stuff and McAfee considered a Thesis had no copyright.
Right or wrong didnt really matter as once Symantec started looking
they found other pieces of borrowed code in other programs and as its
all quiet about that period I suspect they forked out the cash

Anyway, I answered the guy so maybe he gives it another go..
I guess he likely once got seriously burned by a virus, and will be so
again considering he runs those 2 (why both no idea as I thought
latest versions are the same just have different name...)
