Connection Center Hanging (cont.)

2003-08-23 Thread dajabo

This little problem (the connection centre hanging) has only begun affecting me for
the last few
weeks. Until then the CC was working like a dream...

I can't think of any config changes I made to encourage it.

And it seems to occur at random on different accounts, ie different
accounts hang at different times, though they are always accounts with
the same POP server.

Re:Rogue emails on this TBUDL

2003-08-23 Thread Mark
This was mentioned earlier. His mails carry the 'SOBIG' marker of
X-MailScanner: Found to be clean. If you are filtering on that,
add a Sender: Angliss ... No filter.
JA It shouldn't be any more... I changed mail server and the new mail
JA scanner uses a different header. If it's still picking up that one,
JA then I've probably messed up a setting somewhere. However, if a filter
JA on X-Mailscanner can kill TB dead, might that be considered a big
JA bug?

This one managed to download without any complaint. I use Sophos
AV for NT. What happened was that the download just stopped on
previous Angliss emails, and required killing the Bat from the
task list. I guess it might be an AV problem rather than a BAT
problem.

Does this happen on receiving them or on closing TB. If it's the
latter than maybe you've changed the properties of the inbox to remove
messages older than zero days.
You can check these properties by selecting the inbox in the account
tree pane and click the right mouse button.

KK I've removed all the filters and started over twice, with the same
KK result. What's up with this?

If it's on receipt of the messages, your sorting office could be
corrupted in some peculiar way. So you could delete the file including
your filters and start afresh. This can be done as follows:
Close TB
Delete the file account.srx in your account directory (Unless you've
changed that yourself, the account directories can be found with the
explorer in C:\Program Files\The Bat!\Mail\ )
Start TB and add new filters.

If this doesn't help, your TB setup could be corrupted and you might
consider uninstalling TB (without removing the accounts and message
bases). Afterwards install TB again, pointing it to your existing
accounts

As long as you didn't format your harddisk, you could save the
registry entries for TB. This can be done from the dos prompt with:
C:\windows\regedit.exe /e C:\TheBat.reg HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\RIT
Among others it saves the key 'SoftwareRegistrationId' that takes care
of this.

As long as you haven't entered any filters in the second account, you
might consider copying the account.srx file from the first to the second
account. As that file contains your complete sorting office, you'd
copy all of your filters.

When you only want to copy some selection of filters to an existing
account, you can use use the copy/paste method, but in stead of
copying each filter immediately to the target account, you could use a
text editor (eg SmartBat) as a go between. The advantage is that that
both your text editor and the sorting office can be opened at the
same, so you won't be opening and close the sorting offices from both
accounts continuously. And besides even though you can copy only one
filter at a time from the sorting office, you can paste multiple
filters into it. (As long as they're all incoming or all outgoing or
whatever).

If you receive newsletters you could extract relevant or important

There was¹ a German website where you could input your favorite
actors, directors, movies genres etc and they sent you a newsletter
telling you when there was something on TV that fitted your
preferences. Needless to say that these newsletter came with a whole
lot of advertising. So I created a filter to extract the one line
with the important information and appended it to a text file.

Later I just had to press F6 to take a look at the list of good
movies on TV the next days.

Just a thought about using SmartBat.

OK.

Trash, but I want messages to [EMAIL PROTECTED], including TBUDL
messages, to stay in the Inbox.

Hm. You seem to be sure that there is no filter that catches other
parts of the message and therefore moves it to trash.

2.) TBUDL messages are being moved to trash.

If all are moved, then de-activate the filters one by one and see when
the unwanted behaviour stops. That's be the culprit.

Er, thanks. I have about 50 filters, and I did get rid of them all,
but it seemed that the moment I put the first filter, this behavior
 started again.

You deleted all filters? Brave. I but then, you might have just
renamed the appropriate file and restarted TB. And then you created
only one filter (which says what?) and TB decided: That's enough.
Anything addressed to this lady will be trashed. And you don't know
why.

Bats have feelings too, you know. I recently took care of three
turtles for a few weeks for a friend, and he is now back. I treated
them well and they made no serious problems, except for a spout of
diarrhea for a few days. Are you sure you talk to your bat daily, feed
it the appropriate insects, and treat it with respect?

Scratch that. Or comment on TBOT, if you will. I finished a paper on
Wireless Networking last night at 1am, presented it today, and just
prepared a 111-slide PowerPoint presentation on MIS for tomorrow
afternoon. Actually it is a 3-hour tutoring session. Somehow I have
the feeling I need to cut down the number of slides to 25%, but
concentration is waning.

Back to your problem, would you mind posting the one filter that still
caused TB to send your message to trash?

No, I never touched this.

If this doesn't help, your TB setup could be corrupted and you might
consider uninstalling TB (without removing the accounts and message
bases). Afterwards install TB again, pointing it to your existing
 accounts

Okay.

Deleting the account.srx file seems to have done the trick. My fingers
are crossed!

RvE agenda/appointments with our laptops and so on. But I'm one of few
RvE who's not using LookOut. Does anyone know if its possible to sync
RvE with The Bat!? Plugings, third party software, what ever... The
RvE iPaq runs Windows CE.

I have not heard/confirmed the possibility to sync theBat! with
PocketPC's.

I have heard of the ability to sync theBat! with Palm Software (see
threads on 8/11 and 8/13). However, one concern for Palm Users was the
inability to sync to folders other than the Inbox. Given that one of
theBat!'s main features is filtering e-mails to folders, the inability
sync particular folders was a great disappointment.

There are several other Bat! users who want/need this functionality to
sync theBat! mails with PocketPc's. Every so often I do a Google
search to see if someone has worked on this a project that would sync
theBat! with PocketPCs. So far, no luck. If and when I come across any
info, I will post it. Let us know if you come across any solutions.

yes I have Zone Alarm and a hardware wall (I keep ZA to monitor

As I said, I haven't made any configuration changes, that I am aware

Be that as it may, like myself, those who reported these problems also
cured their problems by switching to another firewall.

You may just be one of the fortunates who has been doing ok with it.
The problems seem to be more common with NT based systems and for those
who keep their machines running for extended periods between reboots. I
think I'd still be using ZA if I rebooted my machine daily since my
problems with it were always cured with a reboot and the problems would
restart after a few days without rebooting.

It's probably good for the soul to find kindly support here, and even

I wonder if there's any hope of an improvement in the forthcoming

HTH This works for v1 and, I assume, for v2.

That worked for me too, but not anymore.
I am now using beta 2.0.

Yes, it does. I first thought it didn't, but that
was because I had attached the short cut to the
Menu Start (using Win XP). With a fresh short cut
the 'nologo' it works.

However, now that I know the rather nice screen
can be clicked away quickly, I'll leave in place.

Thank you all for your help.
