Selective download filters

2003-09-20 Thread Michael Thompson
Hello TBUDL,

After getting about 200 Sven worm type emails a day, I would like to
know if the selective download filter is case sensitive.

Is the string this is a string the same as This Is a String as
far as the filter is concerned?

What strings are you using? There seem to be a huge number of options.

For one brief period they were arriving faster than I could delete
them, but almost all to an address I've hardly ever used -- my mail
address at my broadband ISP, half a world away from my mail host for
my domain name where I've only had (so far) about six. First thing
today there were nearly 400 in my mail at the local ISP and no other
messages at all (not even any other spam!)

However that does make it easy to use message dispatcher.

Re: MyGate Bat! Content Type Header

2003-09-20 Thread Andrew Perevodchik
Hello, John!

JP What exactly is a content type header?

This is a feature for non-English newsgroups. It was made for Russian
fido7, where content-type header is not present in messages. MyGate
checks if message already has content-type set, and if not -- then
inserts it with default value, so Bat can display message with
correct encoding.

If you don't need it (you probably don't if you ask what's that ;),
just leave it empty.

JP Incidentally, the screenshot on MyGate web site is for V.2.5, but only
JP 2.4 seems to be available for download at this time?

2.5 release will be ready in few days. I'll announce it here.

ps: I've seen the discussion here about replacing mid suffix and
promise to do something by v2.6. Just stop writing me about that
directly :)

I don't think so. Primarily because the listserver overrides any

Why is that? Aren't spammers collecting email addresses from the
 FROM line?

If you are talking about email harvesting on the usenet, this is here
OT. But the answer is that all spammers seem to collect from FROM
addresses and only a few from Reply-To addresses. So, obscuring your
From address makes more sense than obscuring the Reply-To address, but
the bots are perfectly capable of deleting a nospam added
somewhere in the address.

You don't want to alphabetisise the filters, as they are worked on
from top to botton.

May an HCI problem that needs to be solved, as a technical reason now

Upgrade procedures

Hello fellow tbudlers!

What are the safest procedures in doing an upgrade from TB! v. 1.61 to

Has anyone here upgraded from 1.61 directly to 2?

Is a back-up through TB!/Tools/Backup with all boxes checked except
the one for store external attachments in the message body
sufficient protection in case of a less than smooth upgrade download?

I have (by custom request) a floppy drive on this relatively new
machine and I know how to use it. I have also a CD drive with

never copied to a CD and will probably have to practice, if I ought to

account macro not working

2003-09-20 Thread Luc
 Good evening list,

I'm having problems to get my account macro working. I have several
accounts and they use the account macro without problems.

I recently set up another account and this one refuses to work with
the macro. Now, all other account have only one name but this one has
two names seperated by a space. Could this by the reason why?

Templates

2003-09-20 Thread Andrew Hodgson
Hello tbudl list,

Here are my newby questions on templates:

1. Is it possible to have my signature block composed using a
template, so that the location information I have put in my
current signature is derived from my Vcard?

2. Is the best way to get the hello text correct to create
addressbook entries for the specific users? What is the best way
to work this for email list subscriptions?

Just purchased the bat, that only took me three years of off and on

tb2: max number of messages not purging

2003-09-20 Thread WL
Hello.

I have a few folders set to keep a max number of messages
stored, but one (and only one, it seems) folder stores more
messages than the set limit.

Using the menu command purge+compress, TB reports nothing
to do. Going to the Maintenance Center and only selecting
the folder for Purge old/exceeding messages, TB reports
that there is nothing to do as well. The other folders seem
ok...just this one.

I've recreated folder, check the integrity; any suggestions
on how to debug this?

Re: Selective download filters

Michael Thompson wrote:

Not sure about Selective download (see my troubles below), but in
general, any kind of filtering is usually case-sensitive - especially if
enclosed in quotes. (and regex is case-sensitive)

I can't get Selective download to work. I would greatly appreciate
anyone's help on this. I'm starting to wonder if a 'regular' filter
that deleted items off the server would be a better option for me.

I have a list of e-mail addresses and domains that I'd like to Kill
(never download, delete from the server). In the Selective Download
folder of Sorting Office, I created a filter rule called SpamKill.

I have tried entering the list of addresses in the signal strings box,
as well as using a text file and checking 'load signal strings from a
file' - in both cases, each address/domain was listed on a new line, and
the Advanced tab options were: Action: Kill and Detection method: Any
strings match.

But I can't get this to work. According the help system, Selective
download signal strings do not allow the special syntax used by other
types of filters.

How are people getting Selective Download to work? Does each string need
to be in quotes or something? Should the signal strings be
comma-delimited? I feel like I'm missing something terribly obvious.

Not from the vCard. But if you add yourself to the AB, you can take
the details from there. Check out the %ABnnnppp macros in the
helpfile.

I use AB templates. In the AB templates, however, I have
quicktemplates, so that for example all AB templates for mailing lists
add the sig by way of %QInclude=mlsig. If I want to change my sig, I
need to do that only in the QT called mlsig.
