Sorry, had a brain slip. There’s no right click option for this.
Instead go folder|compress with the focus on the folder you want to
operate on.

Nope. The AV on this system is set up to ignore the Bat Mail folders.
But that may be worth looking into. Thanks Jon.

This is what I am doing. However, I'm not ignoring, but deleting
unwanted messages. Having accidently (and still not knowing why)
deleted a non-spam-msg of minor importance I have now activated the
automatic mail dispatcher every time I check mail (for the account
involved).

Btw:

You may remember someone on the list once mentioned killfiling mail
that has an "X-MSMail-Priority:" flag in the header *and* mentions
"X-Mailer: The Bat" in the headers, because TB!-maild doesn't show
this combination. I checked may spam and now I'm also killing messages
with the "X-MSMail-Priority:" flag *plus* any of the following strings
in the header:

X-Mailer: The Bat
X-Mailer: CyberCreek Avalanche Millennium
X-Mailer: AOL
X-Mailer: McSyn Mailer Pro

Interesting... I copied the autogenerated email just fine... are you
sure that was all you got, and didn't get some extra data like a break
character? The To field is gray, but still selectable... that's the
design of the form... you are using the right side of the | in the To

Maybe Agent is ignoring certain characters?

What editor are you using? HTML? Plain Text? Can you paste the text
into Notepad, and check to ensure you didn't pick up extra characters?

Are you running a virus scanner such as Norton, or the likes? If
Norton has a lock on the file (which it can do while it is scanning
it), TB cannot delete it, and as such shall leave it. Remember most
scanners do virus scans on opening a file, and writing a file. To do a

Have you checked the error messages in the log? I see this from time
to time when a connection gets killed for whatever reason, and you
attempt to connect before the lock file on the server is removed. The
server returns an error message about not being able to log in because
of the lock file, but TB sometimes prompts for the user/pass
combination again. As they are valid, by the time you click OK, the
lock has been removed because they tend to have an expire time.
Outlook is terrible for doing that, I noticed it a lot on networks
with WinGate as a proxy server.

Maybe I am misreading the Help system, but I thought that Selective

How does:

Has that method been consistent? I tried this too, and it has worked for
the Swen.A messages so far. I set my threshold at 90K. But for some
reason, it still allowed a 110K message through. ??

Well, no one else seems to be responding so I will.

I think part of my problem may be that I'm using filter strings with the
'Entire Header' option checked. Many of the strings I was using were
really only appropriate filters for subject lines or from.

I am going to create separate files for ignore_subject, ignore_from,

Is this what other people are doing?

Can't Delete Zombie Messages

2003-09-26 Thread Edward J. Krall
Hello Batpeople,

I upgraded to V2, and find that I am having a hard time (=impossible)
deleting messages.

I am using POP3 since IMAP is not yet working. Messages which are
filtered and downloaded are removed from the server, which is what I
want. There are others that I want to download "by hand" then delete
from the server. I have tried everything: moving to trash, pressing
delete (this gives an access violation), using the dispatcher (but
they are not shown in the dispatcher window), and even deleting the
files MESSAGES.TBI and MESSAGES.TBB from the /inbox directory.
Yet these 59 zombie messages are still shown in inbox folder in The
Bat! I've run folder maintenance to no avail.

Suggestions please!

How to filter Worm (the Microsoft one)

2003-09-26 Thread Carsten Guthardt-Schulz
Hi all,

For about a week now I get tons of email with this worm that pretends
coming from Microsoft and being a security update (most of you will know
the worm, I think it is called Swen). In the beginning I thought my
internet provider would filter it after a day or it would just stop, but
it's getting more and more.

There are two emails, one appearing to be from Microsoft, another one
telling me that a message couldn't be deliver. Both have this 106K
attachment containing the worm.
How do I filter this? The message text changes a little bit each time and I
can't filter for an attachment length.
Can anyone please just quickly post a working filter for this.

Thanx,
Carsten

This posting violated the list rules regarding top posting.

Top posting, i.e., typing all your reply text at the top of your message

actually request that you not do so on this list because

a) It makes it difficult to glean context from what you typed at the top
of the message

and

b) It encourages excessive quoting.

We would much prefer if you quote just that much of the message to which
you're replying, so we know what it is you're referring to, and then
below the quotation, type your response. If you're responding to more
than one parts of the original, then quote each part separately and
follow each part with your response.

Now, I know that you may not personally prefer this format and that you
may disagree with some of the reasoning here. We very much respect this.
However, this is the format that most of the active members here prefer
and all members are expected, and are being asked to use the format that
will make most of the active membership here comfortable reading. You'll
likely get a more responsive group when you post using a style that is
comfortable for them to read and understand.

Thank you.

Not just Jaws but any new windows screen reader. This is called MS

Actually you have the option of doing both. You can
make up an email on the fly say you are out some

one for you to use

Look right below where it says to chk your email. It

That email address above is auto generated everytime
you visit the web page.

My question is this when I am at my desk and need a
throw away email. I will use the auto generated
one. BUT. I can not seem to just copy it off the
web page and then paste it into Bats email fields

IMAP is not well implemented in TB so far this version. I regard it as
work in progress and have given up using it until the various issues,
some of which you describe here, are resolved (which I'm sure they

Try using the keys: CTRL-c (copy) and CTRL-v (paste). This often works
for me when other methods won't. I've never failed to have it copy
anything out of the Header fields to anywhere that I wanted to put it,
including the To: field.

Let me know if it works for you, please. :)

IMAP

2003-09-26 Thread Dave Gorman
Hi TBUDLers,

I've not paid much attention to IMAP threads previously as I
didn't have an IMAP capable account set up. But now I have an
IMAP account and have been attempting to use it. Now obviously
I'm an IMAP newbie and perhaps am not entirely understanding how
IMAP is supposed to work, but some things just don't seem right.

* 2 folders that were deleted days ago (and are no longer on the
server) continue to appear in my account folder list. If I try to
delete them, I am told they no longer exist. The only way to be
rid of them was to delete the account altogether and readd it.
This seems a cumbersome and impractical thing to have to do any
time folders are deleted. Surely this isn't the way it's supposed
to work?

* I sometimes get access violation errors dealing with folders,
particularly sub-folders. Is this a yet-to-be-addressed bug?

* I seem to be unable to import messages into an IMAP folder. I
would like to import locally stored messages from my POP account.
I do Tools / Import / TBB and select the appropriate TBB. It says
they are imported, but they apparently only display locally and
have no persistance. After TB is closed and reopened, the
imported messages are not there. Shouldn't imported messages
write back to the server as part of synchronization? Or is this
just the nature of the beast? Is there any way to do what I'm
intending (aside from a redirect and losing date/time info)?

Address Book

2003-09-26 Thread Freddie Freeloader
Hello tbudl,

I use the Palm desktop as my primary address book. I know, ugly
compared to the TB address book, but I need them on the road. I
export the Palm data to a .vcf file and then import into TB.

After import, the "Display Name as" field is set to "User defined."
The result of this setting is that, for TB to find an entry when
generating a new message, I must type the first name then last name
  to get a hit.

If I change the "Display Name as" field to "Last, first middle",
then I can type the last name, comma, first name in a new message
and get a hit, which is what I want to do.

How can I globally change the "Display Name as" field to "Last,
first middle"? Must I change each entry one at a time?

  Using TB 2.00.6

Correction: the list boxes are perfectly navigable, but the check

trainable in Jaws by labeling the graphics for checked and unchecked.
I've not examined the trainability options in Hal 5.21,

It's interesting to see peoples different needs. It's so easy even for
a blind person like myself to assume that *all* blind have almost the
same needs, but that's not true. I fore one am not that interested in
the html piece of things, while others apparently are. It would of
course be nice to have access even to html, but i really don't think
it's top priority, unless of course there's a way to add urls to IE or

Hi Bat! people,
I'm trying to write an encrypted mail using TB 2.00.06 & GnuPg v1.22
Nr2 Nullify using the builtin support for Gpg.
When i try to encrypt to an unsigned key, the program tells me the
program isn't sure whether the key really belongs to whom it claims to
belong to, and this is write, however if you use Gpg without the
plugin it lets me choose whether i want to go on encrypting anyway or
just leave it be, a thing the bat!'s builtin support doesn't offer. In
other words, the built-in support forces me to sign a key before i can
use it.
I understand the security thinking behind this but should i consider
this a bug or a feature? I myself consider it a buglet which i hope
will be fixed in future versions, since i want to avoid having to use
gpgtray as much as possible when using TB!.
TIA for any answers or help regarding this.
