Global filters

2004-03-04 Thread Admin at AK
Hi

Would it not be possible to hae a special set of filters that is
applied to ALL incoming mail no matter to which account it was
addressed?

I want to filter out the swathe of fake emails coming in but the
prospect of copying and pasting even with Filter Commander to each of
38 email accounts is more time-consuming than just letting them arrive
and deleting them from each account.

Re[2]: Too many initials used in quoting

2004-03-04 Thread rich gregory
RG How can I get the reply quotes to [consist only of the sender's
RG initials and] ignore the domain when the FROM address is not
RG bracketed?

MDP The Initials macro on the FAQ macro library is a pretty good one;
MDP I use it myself.
MDP http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/Library.html#initials

I looked at the Initials reply template on that page, which consists
of 3 separate sections. I tried to use it by just copying all 3 sections
into my reply template, it is obviously not meant to be used *that*
way!

Did some part of that template do what I was looking for and I'm using
it wrong, or is it 3 separate templates, none of which does what I
want?

The first section puts the initials CFA into the reply, the 2nd
section returns an error that I do not have some other macro, the
third returns the senders NAME.

Quoting

2004-03-04 Thread G. Minnerup
I'm having a strange problem - I'm probably not the first/only one so apologies if
this is a FAQ, I've been off the list for a while:

I have a reply template with %QUOTES in it. I usually highlight a section of the
message I am replying to and hit F4. That works as expected, but only when replying to
messages without previous quotes in it. When I try the same with one of those messages
people send me with several generations of previous messages quoted at the end, and
I select the whole lot for quoting, nothing appears in the reply message except my
signature. In fact, even the Dear %FNAME macro doesn't work then.

Any suggestions gratefully accepted.

TB blacklisted on Lycos?

2004-03-04 Thread G. Minnerup
I remember some discussion a while ago about some ISPs blacklisting messages from TB
as spam. I've now had two emails to someone with a Lycos webmail address disappear
mysteriously, with no other apparent explanation - when I mail the same address from
the same account but using a Mac, no problems. If I use my yahoo account, no problem
either. But when I use TB, the mail disappears into a black hole...

JP Honestly, we might still get spammed, because even with TDMA,

This is a valid point. But it is aptly countered here:

,--/ From http://www.gmane.org/tmda.php \--
Any mail sent to an address like [EMAIL PROTECTED]
will undergo a challenge/response scheme courtesy of TMDA. After the

`--\ End /--

So, spam is still not going to get through! I think they have it
covered pretty well.

They even (very magnanimously) make this offer:

,--/ Further down on the same page \--
In fact, feel free to use your public.gmane.org address anywhere.
While it's difficult for me to promise that your encrypted address

Usually ISP mailhosts will include the domain with DHCP assigned
hosts (ie adsl-113-212.swiftdsl.com.au) . You come up as unknown. Try
giving your workstation a name with valid FQDN and send to lycos again.
This is just a wag .. but a good place to start.

Good point - hadn't actually checked that, just assumed the X-Mailer etc line was
still there. Makes it even more mysterious, though...

Account requires password

2004-03-04 Thread Jack
Hello,

I was having a problem receiving emails for the three accounts I have.
They are all pop3. For some reason, while trying to figure out the
problem, I decided to change one account from pop3 to IMap. After the
original problem was fixed and I went back and changed the setting
from IMap to pop3 for the one account. But now, when I try to receive
email for that account, a dialog pops up asking for my username and
password. I enter them and click ok but no mail is received (it never
connects to the server) and after it times out, I get the dialog
again. If I stop and restart TB, the folder for that account is shown
collapsed. If I click on it to open it, it the password dialog pops
back up. Can someone please tell me what I need to do to fix this?

How do I do that? And which FQDNs are valid?

First, are you using your own SMTP server (ie MDaemon or ADR?) or
relying on your ISP's?
