It works with the standard version.
When you first install The Bat! you can choose how it must be configured.

Sorry, don't have the time to explain further now. Look in the helpfile or
maybe someone else might already have written how to do it.

If needed, I will check it later today.

Deleting messages in virtual folder

2004-04-22 Thread Anselm Buehling

Hm. I just decided to play around with the virtual folder feature -
admittedly without in-depth-knowledge of the concept.

I created a common virtual folder and instructed it to collect all my
unreplied mail which goes to a certain account. I also set it to
monitor my existing folders for unreplied messages to that account.

I opened the folder and found that it did indeed contain all unreplied
messages addressed to the account in question. Just fine. Now I wanted
to empty the folder, because I intended to use it for new unreplied
messages rather than for my old ones.

I was cautious enough to backup my folders before trying. And that
proved to be very wise. Having emptied the virtual folder (using the
context menu command in the virtual folder view, in which no other
folders where displayed), I found that all messages which had been
collected by the virtual folder had in fact been deleted from the
existing non-virtual folders. They were still present in the virtual
folder though.

What did I do wrong? I would have expected that the virtual folder
contains only links to the messages which it collects, and I wanted to
delete these links in the virtual folder rather than real messages in
my existing folders. should I have used another command to achieve
this - and if so, which one?

Thanks and kind regards,

Anselm

Is it possible to assign keyboard shortcuts to message encodings?

Specifically, I want to toggle between ROT13 and Latin-1, as in one of

the keyboard and not the mouse when browsing. In the shortcut editor,

It won't help a bit. You must change the PATH environment variable.

In XP: Right click on My computer and select Properties. Click
on the Advanced tab. At the bottom of that tab is an Environment
variables button. Click that. The bottom half of the window that
opens contains the System variables, one of which is Path. Find
that, select it and click Edit. At the end of the Variable value
field, add ;C:\GunPG\. Click all the OK buttons you can find and
that will fix the problem.

view modes

2004-04-22 Thread Anselm Buehling

Hi,

Here's the next query about version 2.10 - seems the new features
don't come easily to me...

Well, I tried to set up two different view modes - one for my business
mail, one for mailing lists (the latter one with threaded view). Saved
them with different names and specified for which folders each one
applies. Unfortunately, they don't work as I want them to. Either ALL
folders are in threaded view, or none is. Changing the view mode for a
folder by context menu or short cut seems to have effect. When I
select a folder and change the view using the View View threads by
command, it is changed - but, again, for ALL folders, not only for the
selected one.

Again, what am I doing wrong? Everything was fine before I started to
play with view modes, but now I'm not able to set different viewing
options for different folders anymore...

Kind regards,

Anselm

in mid:[EMAIL PROTECTED] said:

BRI Why sometimes the messages are signed in the body and others
BRI goes in a signed file separated.

As Leif said, this is the difference between PGP/MIME and plain PGP.
TB is usually set to do auto-PGP/MIME. It decides for itself
whether (from the help file):

o a message includes attachments
o a message is created using HTML or other Rich Text format
o a non-ASCII character set is used in the message text
o the message text contains lines longer than 76 characters
o the message text has lines beginning with From (some mail
servers may add a symbol at the start destroying the
cryptographic integrity of such a message)
o the message text contains lines with trailing spaces like
the standard dashdashspace signature separator (some
mail servers may strip trailing spaces destroying the
cryptographic integrity of such a message)

These are all reasons for the 'auto' to choose to use PGP/MIME.

You can change the default behaviour by use of the PGP/MIME menu
options or by the use of special macros, which you can include in
templates. %NOPGPMIME or %CLEARSIGN to force plain text signing or
%PGPMIME to force PGP/MIME signing.

IMAP Question

2004-04-22 Thread Stuart Cuddy
Hello tbudl,

Can someone explain what these numbers represent in my IMAP inbox.
This is from my Blogstreet Account.

Inbox4* 410 19

I assume that the 410 is the total messages in the folder, although
this number seems to just accumulate despite the fact I have been
using the Trash for deleted items.
The 19 appears to be the number of messages that I can see in my
Inbox, that I haven't deleted.
What is the 4*? This is under the unread column, but I don't see any
unread messages.

If you use e-mail for business and don't have an up-to-date
backup then you will come to grief regardless of what e-mailer
you use. It's not a case of if it happens but when it happens!

Take a look at Karen's Replicator www.karenware.com - it can
handle automatic backups of any size. We've even used it to copy
over hard drive contents before reformatting them.

There are enough good tools out there to use so not having a
backup for any business is just plain crazy.

Exactly. To get rid of that 400 count, you need to do an expunge
operation, i.e., to really delete those messages that are marked for
deletion. For transparency and consistency of the operation
terminology, TB! calls the expunging 'compression' which is the same
process in POP3 accounts.

You can either do this manually, or have TB! do it upon exiting IMAP
folders. For the latter, look at the account properties.

SC What is the 4*? This is under the unread column, but I don't see

This means that there are 4 unread messages in the IMAP folder, but
TB! hasn't yet sync'd with the server. This is why you don't see the
headers for viewing.

Re: VF's: Compression and Filters

2004-04-22 Thread MAU
Hello Joseph,

 2. The VF setup has a filter dialog. Is that to pull messages
in? Assuming that it was, I set it up for flagged messages or
those in a particular color group, but none appeared in the VF,
even after refreshing it. (And, if it's not to pull in messages,
 what's it for?)

VFs don't pull or copy messages from original folders, they just set a
link to original message. That said, did you select any folders to pull
from? It wouldn't be the first time I forget to do so when creating a VF.

Yes. I'm familiar with this quirky behaviour and there's really
nothing we as users can do about it. I found it very distracting and
annoying but my senses are now acclimatized to it. :/

The current nature of TB!'s IMAP is that it's really unpredictable how
well it will work for you. It may work as well as it can within the
scope of its current functionality, it may not work well enough to be
usable, or it may work to the point where it's useable but some of the
functionality is broken. I guess this depends on the variability of
how the various servers respond to TB! and how TB! interacts with them.

Good clients to try and compare with how TB! handles IMAP are
ThunderBird and Mulberry. If you use those, you'll experience solid
IMAP support. You'll then be better able to understand what TB! is
doing flakily or entirely fails to do. I currently use ThunderBird
where TB! doesn't work well, i.e., at work while TB! works well enough
at home.

IMO, even at a basic level of usability, IMAP is definitely still a
work in progress. However, I have confidence in the development teams
abilities to optimize it and have it working well. I just hope the
timeliness of development goes our way and the way of others who are
interested in using IMAP.
