V4 does not have the restore problem any more, and I would recommend to use the internal back-up function, install the program on the new computer, and restore from the back-up file. In fact, we just had the same question on the German beginner list (also moving v4 from XP to W7), and the user reported that everything went smoothly. The only issue was that the bat didn't flap when new mail had arrived, but it turned out to be a setting in Windows. -- Cheers, Thomas. http://thomas.fernandez.hat-gar-keine-homepage.de/ Message reply created with The Bat! 4.2.44 under Windows XP 5.1 Build 2600 Service Pack 3 Current version is 4.2.42 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Move to a new computer
Hi, I need to move TB from my old computer with XP to my new one with Windows 7. I found a post on the web that said to copy the whole TB directory to the new computer and then go into the registry and copy the settings and transfer them. This last part concerns me since I'm not sure the registry is the same between the two OS's. Is there a reason why I just can't do a new install on the new computer and then restore the backup of TB that is made on the old one? I would appreciate any thoughts on the best way to accomplish this. Using version 4.2.40 -- Jack Current version is 4.2.42 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

The most stable TB! version I've ever used was v2.12, which I held onto for much longer than most people before "updating" (I specifically refrain from using the term "upgrading"). Filtering and its associated options has become a true pain, where before it was very powerful, and everything worked as expected. System resource usage also seems to become more cumbersome as each new version is released. Since moving on to v4.x, I've submitted bug issues, and have received totally unsatisfactory responses...until they just stopped responding at all. No solutions. I'll keep using TB!, as I do still like it more than most other email clients I've tried or used, but will now always be wary of "updating". Also, very unfortunately, I'm much more reluctant to recommend TB! to new users (just not reliable enough anymore). There was a time when I sent all sorts of new customers to Ritlabs. That's just not the case anymore. -- Melissa PGP Public Key: http://tinyurl.com/2cmefzy TB! v4.2.44.2 on Windows XP 5.1.2600 Service Pack 2 Current version is 4.2.42 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
