no, no ;)

JL or is this a high priority feature that The Bat team should look

[...]

JL Any suggestions?

Daniel had the idea in [1]. I found a much simpler way to get a quick
menu for quick templates:

Here is the quick template you should use for mails you have to
reply to in different ways using some canned answers:
__
%CLEAR

mail from: %OFromName %OFromAddr
   to: %oToName %OToAddr
  subject: %osubj

Standard reply template t_handle_s%cursor
canned answer 1 description t_handle_1
canned answer 2 description handle_2
canned answer 3 description handle_3
canned answer 4 descriptiont_hdl_4
canned answer 5 description templ_handle_5
canned answer 6 description handle_06
canned answer 7 description t_handle_7
......
¯¯

Every time you reply to a message you'll see information about sender,
receiver, subject and describtions and handles (= names) of all
relevant templates you might want to use.

Look at the %cursor macro. Assumed you created quick templates for all
your canned answers you just have to move your cursor down to the
wanted handle and finally press Ctrl+Space. This is really quick! (The
handles must be aligned on right of course)

This is even a better solution than selecting templates directly from
the menu (Utilities - Insert quick template) because a) you can list
only the templates you want and b) you can order, arrange etc. them as
you like (with separators...).

A canned answer template could look line this (%CLEAR is important!):
__
%CLEAR%-Hello %AbOFromFirstName=%OFromFirstName,

L from incoming mail and than sends it to tb! ?

L (my request is mainly for signatures of free mail services.)

Yep.

L ps: i am talking about incoming mail, not for replies

I have both good news and bad news for you ;-)

There is a programm called cut.exe (author: Dirk Heiser) written for
TB! doing exactly what you want. Unfortunately documentation is AFAIK
only available in German language.

http://www.guenther-eisele.de/cut/
http://www.Dirk-Heiser.de/cut/Cut.zip

It works like this:

- a filter exports incoming mails to a file and call cut.exe
- cut.exe cuts disturbing signatures from extracted mails (rules taken
  from a file called cut.ini)
- cut.exe reimports messages to The Bat!.

Maybe one should ask Dirk or Günther for an English translation of the
documentation ;-) It's only a short text.

Hi Costas,

CP different display names, or even with blank display names. In my case
CP I have the same person(s) listed in English and Greek, in different

You want TB! to just look for an e-mail address but you have several
matching AB entries. What would you expect?

So you have more than one AB entry for one e-mail address.

You can assign as many groups to one AB entry as you want. Why not
make these persons a members of both groups English _and_ Greek?

But wait... different display names... hmm. Quick templates? I see the
problem. *shrug*

Re: Extended ASCII Characters

2002-01-14 Thread Carsten Thnges

Hi Jint,

JN Sometimes I need characters like ë, ß, ü, etc. in mails. In most
JN window programms I can use the ALT-137, ALT-225 and ALT-129, etc.
JN key combinations for this, but in TheBat! this doesn't work. When
JN I type ALT-129 for example all I get is a Load file menu.

Num lock key ;-)

No Dierk, 1.53 has %IFs.

Very interesting, I tested:

This one is nearly identical to the one of my first reply except the

Hi Gerard,

David Another addition that might become useful is when you have a mouse

GdV I feel that if you mark a piece of text and press reply you are telling
GdV the software you just want the blocked area in the reply. Therefore
GdV there is no need at all to press special buttons to get just a piece of
GdV the text.

Hmm, sounds logical but: many people seem to read mails (and Webpages)
with their mouse pointers following/leading their eyes and marking the
letters they fly over, you know what I mean?

When they reply on a mail and still accidently have parts of the text
marked... in your scenario - chaos ;-)

But maybe you are right (BTW I think F4 is better than
Shift+Alt+something g)

GdV Just my 2 (Euro)cents.

Just my 4 Pfennigs (but shops accept them only until end of February,
so go shopping asap :-).

In Opera you Shift+Ctrl-Click the link and the new window opens in the

by the new windows.

Jump to the windows via Ctrl+Tab.

BTW I fell in love with this two Opera mouse gestures ;-)

Re: New message from Favourites Memo in saved file

Hi Thomas,

AA problem getting the account New message template to send BCC's. I
AA *do* have a problem getting BCC's sent if the message is started
AA by clicking on the Create a new message drop-down box in the
AA main toolbar.

TF I confirm this and call it a bug:

TF For the AB entry I chose, there are no templates, so the account
TF templates are used. The New Message account template contains the BCC
TF macro.

TF If I create a new message using the new message icon, the BCC is
TF correctly filled in. If I create a new message using the favourites
TF drop-down list, the BCC macro is ignored.

Confirmed here with 1.54/25 (the way _you_ describe it).

Re: using other accounts to reply/fwd with when email is in another accounts inbox

2002-01-03 Thread Carsten Thnges

Hi Dierk,

[ using another account when replying ]

DH 1. Hit reply.
DH 2. Go to Options and change the account.
DH 3. Put the cursor into the message body.

DH You now should have the default template from the chosen account with
DH the header info from that account. If you don't have that, another
DH template (individual, group or folder) may have kicked in.

No *huh*, that's not true here on v1.54 beta 22. Template doesn't
change to the other account's default (or any other) template.
Quotestyle and some other settings (not the privacy settings) change
but _not_ the template itself.

I'm a little confused as the behavior you describe is exactly what I
expected to happen when switching to another account.

DH I have set up some QT's I especially use for business mass mailings
DH with the %ACCOUNT macro to avoid any incorrect header info
DH (particularly my address). They work like a charm.

Okay, with QTs. But manually?

DH Also the manual way works when I have to use it - as long as I
DH haven't entered text into the message body.

Could you please check it again ;-) it doesn't work here. *hmmm*

(don't know if this is a beta issue... you, Dierk, use the same
version as I do)

BTW it works very well when you modify the _TO:_ field.

Re: BAT's word wrapping abilities...

Hi Peter,

ACM The TB! editor cannot be made to behave in a way that you wish it
ACM to. This is probably why you haven't had a response on this list to
ACM your comment.

PS Neither did I expect a comment, I wasn't asking a question. But
PS then I got a reaction implying that I was so dumb that I couldn't
PS see the solution to my problem. Well, that is not the attitude I
PS expect on this list, and *that* is what I said in my previous
PS message. I'm amazed that you now are criticizing MY attitude in
PS that regard.

I'm one of these TB! editor fans.

I see three solutions to your problem (this is not meant
ironically!):

 - type your mails in a word processor you like (word, ...) and
   copy/paste into the TB! editor

 - wait for TB! version 2

 - give another mail client a try (becky, ...)

Many users new to TB! don't like the editor. But the longer they work
with it... ;-)

Re: self-deleting e-mails problem

2001-12-19 Thread Carsten Thnges

Hi Clive,

ce D'oh - how did that happen? Yes, there was a filter set up for
ce Read Messages, and that's where the e-mails were going,
ce interestingly I hadn't set that filter up!! So where did it come
ce from?

It can easily happen because in Sorting Office there's no 'Ok',
'Cancel', 'Apply' buttons. You probably tried something with this
filter and pressed ESC assuming that your changes were reset...

ce Thanks Carsten, that's saved me from pulling my hair out with and
ce having to move over to OE.

You're welcome :-D

Re: Address syntax

2001-12-17 Thread Carsten Thnges

Hi Marck,

JN \Company Inc.\ [EMAIL PROTECTED]

[...]

JN What's the purpose of the slashes?

MDP [...] ... well, someone's put quotes around the field manually
MDP then something's added another set to it, which then requires
MDP that the inner quotes be literalized by have a '\' in front of
MDP each of them.

[...]

JN My real concern is whether this is something that Outlook
JN produces,

MDP It seems that way.

Marck, are you sure? Please take a look a the bug report (and its
attached message!) I posted some time ago on tbbeta:

,- [ TB! - bug report QP-Header [1] ]
| [...]
| From: =?ISO-8859-1?Q?Reinb=F6th,_Pet=E4r?= [EMAIL PROTECTED]
| is displayed as \Reinböth, Petär\ [EMAIL PROTECTED]
| [...]
'-

IMHO TB! doesn't decode that from-line correctly...

Maybe this has something to do with a QP-encoded from-address and is a
bug in TB!?

Re: Address syntax

Hi Marck,

JN My real concern is whether this is something that Outlook
JN produces,

MDP It seems that way.

CT Marck, are you sure?

MDP Not completely! (Hence seems).

Ok g. I asked are you sure? because it's not _always_ Outlook's fault ;-)

Maybe this has something to do with a QP-encoded from-address and is
 a bug in TB!?

MDP Maybe, but the example in the question I answered wasn't shown as QP.

Of course not. Did't want to say that your answer was not correct ;-)

MDP I couldn't find an RFC which explained it in enough detail to work it
MDP out.

RFC-822 was mentioned when we talked about that on the german list...

Joseph, could you post the from-line from the header of the \-mail? Then
we'll see...
