IBM ReMail research for TB?
Hello tbudl, I have been a paid TheBat! user for about 7 years now and enjoy it so much I have found ways to use it wherever I can, including here at my work instead of {cringe} Outlook 2003. TB simplicity and power just works better than any email client I have tried for when you just need EMAIL. TB has the best editor I've used and I constantly am Alt-L'ing replies of users using bad formatting clients. TheBat has also been literally the ONE app (well two since my wife lives in Quicken) that has kept me from trying to go MS Windows-free for a bit as well as I just can't get myself to like anything else. But being a user of TB I do sometimes find myself maybe possibly wanting a more modern interface. I know to be careful for what I wish for as too much deviation from what makes us all like TB may come back to bite, but one can wish a little, right? One thing I always really thought (and wished) RITlabs would do is leave the old concept of email behind a little and possibly itself pioneer the way we read and interact with email. Something that could make a name for itself. I came across this IBM research site that they have done for email and some of its interface and ideas sound awesome. As much as I like TB, I would love to be using something like what is shown at the site but done in the RitLabs/TB way (meaning no bloat, good code, etc). The site is: http://www.research.ibm.com/remail/index.html I am not suggesting that TB start in the direction of taking on Outlook/Notes in having Chat Calendar (well maybe) in TB but more of using some of the concepts presented in the inbox prototype which email can become more efficient as we receive more and more each day. Plus the presented interface looks ready for 2007 (and sweet) instead of 2001 as TB still looks (still though not saying bad but just saying). I see TB 4.0 (well maybe 4.5) as a perfect time to maybe start to head down the road less traveled. Ideas, objections, thoughts? Re[2]: Problems Restoring Email
Howdy, Dispatch Mail On Server / All Messages, only shows what messages have been received today, since I restored. It does not show what is in my inbox. (So I can get emails from the 30th till Yesterday.) Something has happened to the restore file. I have backed/restored while using Gmail before. Not had an issue. When I restored, The Bat would simply download any email since, I backed up everything. Getting frustrating. Hope something can be done. Plug-ins are not learning from each other and that is why there is no sense in installing several plug-ins simultaneously. The classification quality will be approximately equal to the quality of the plug-in with the worst characteristics. Moreover, the less learned plug-in will be unable to learn normally. The more learned plug-in will correctly classify the messages unknown to less learned plug-in and therefore it will never learn such messages. Force Quick Template to override address book template?
Is there a setting or macro that will force a Quick Template to override an address book template? For example, I have an address book template for general messages to my assistant (a simple greeting, informal signature, etc.). I also have a Quick Template, available for use in new messages, with a substantial amount of standard text providing instructions for setting up new files (i.e., when I need a new physical file created and indexed, I send a message with this template, filling in a few blanks identifying the client, type of litigation, index keywords, and the like). The problem is, the address book template overrides the Quick Template. When I click in the editor, the new file template text disappears, leaving only the informal greeting/signature. I know that one simple workaround is to include a %CLEAR macro in the quick template and insert it in the editor using the handle and Ctrl+space, but I hate workarounds. If there's a macro that will take care of this, I'd love to find it. Stop checking email when the network disappears
How do I make The Bat stop checking email? My DSL (always on huh, right) has been temperamental lately and just goes off so I go off on the DSL people. When that happens, the 20+ email accounts that I check with The Bat just start beeping at me... and when it gets those errors, it seems to slow things down. So when I know there is an error with the network, how do I make The Bat quit trying to check email until I know the network is back?? Feature Request: A Stop sign like icon on the tool bar that stops all email checking activity, kind of like zone alarm. -- Scott Windows 2000 The Bat 2.04.7 Popfile Spam Filter http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Current version is 2.10.00 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

Checking mail one account at a time
Does The Bat have the function to check mail one account at a time implemented yet? I thought I saw where a setting was being added so that mail is not checked multi-thread but instead 1 account, then another and so on... -- Scott Windows 2000 The Bat 2.04.7 Popfile Spam Filter http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Current version is 2.04.7 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html

When you click on the line, its hard to find where the cursor went and you have to arrow key back to any address you want to edit. Another big pet peeve is why make a window intentionally small so that you have to have scroll bars (the sorting office/message filter window)? Fine if it starts at that size but please make it so we can adjust the size to rid the view of the scroll bars... -- Scott Windows 2000 The Bat 2.04.7 Popfile Spam Filter http://popfile.sourceforge.net/ Current version is 2.04.7 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
