I generally find the settings at options - preferences - messages - address history keep the "address history" list fairly well in check. The pop-up "favourites" list of address book entries is unobtrusive, and therefore dead easy to ignore. -- Best regards MFPAmailto:expires2...@ymail.com Lotto: A tax on people who are bad at statistics! This message is addressed to MAU with the list address in carrots following. If I were trying to replace that address with one to MAU@private.address to send a private comment about something on the list, my inattention might result in my choosing the list address again, instead of the private one, and my catty comment going to the list as not intended. I hardly use the autocomplete feature, I usually select the addresses from the Favourites pop-up or from AB. One of the reasons being that it would not be the first time that using autocomplete the message was sent to the wrong person. I think this may answer your questions. -- Best regards, Miguel A. TB! seems to be fetching addresses from the AB based on which characters have been types so far. I see that if I type the letters "li", TB! brings up *any* AB address which contains the letter combination "li" anywhere in the address. If I continue typing letters as in "lis" then only those addresses which contain those three letters, in that order, anywhere in the address will continue to appear. Names with *only* the "li" combination have dropped from the list. As I said, interesting but of little help to you. Based on what I have seen now I doubt you will be able to delete any of the addresses appearing without deleting them from the AB as was stated in an earlier reply. -- Best Regards, Jack LaRosa :usflag: Central Alabama Using The Bat! ver: 5.2. The drop-down list (menu, as you call it) that appears when you start typing is a list that is built on the fly with addresses from Address Book, or To history or both, that match the characters that you have typed so far. You can see that it is built on the fly if, once it appears, you type one or more characters. So, as the shown list as such does not exist in any file (like the To history does) you cannot delete from it. If you want to delete one or more addresses, you will have to do so from the AB or the To history. -- Best regards, Miguel A. Talking to myself ... After much messing around, it seems that you *can* delete history this way BUT the addresses that appear in the drop down are in fact from the address book - which can't be deleted. You need to hit the double down arrow to get the history. TB does not honour the "Add Items to the Instant Address Popup" setting in the Group Properties. Therefore, all address book addresses appear in the drop down. What's more, if the address is a member of multiple address book groups, then it will appear multiple times - each time rendered slightly differently. E.g. David 'David' "'David...'" A single address appearing multiple times makes sense because each group can have its own templets, character set, etc. but there is no indication which address come from which group. Finally, the address that TB decides to put into the To: seems to be a total mystery. -- Best regards, Tonymailto:t...@parkinch.co.uk The Bat! 5.3.8.4 (BETA) Current version is 5.2.2 | 'Using TBUDL' information: http://www.silverstones.com/thebat/TBUDLInfo.html
Deleting address history
Hello Tbudl, How can I delete addresses offered on the address drop down when addressing a new email? According to TBUDL archove, I should simply select the address and hit the Delete key. This doesn't work for me. Another post said to delete it on the Addresses Tab. The offending address is not there to be deleted. There is also strange behaviour of the address list drop down: * The list appears to be in random order * TB picks and highlight a random entry each time * Sometime and entry is copied into the address without highlighting.
