Irrelevant and a huge distraction from the actual topic - you are
failing to authenticate - login. You are NOT failing to connect (as
you would be if the protocol settings were wrong).

That's nothing to do with "Authentication". That's to do with
transport encryption, which is not the problem and is working fine
according to the logs you have sent here.

Next to the SMTP server name edit box is a button labelled
"Authentication" (or your local language variation on that word).
That's where your problem lies - in the options within.

I'm going to agree with Marck, the error messages people have posted seem to
indicate a problem with authentication, not connection. The reason another
client like Thunderbird might work is that it likely uses different default
values than TB!. So maybe look at the Thunderbird settings and see what options
are selected with regards to authentication and try to reproduce those in TB!.

Never a this problem, I'm always using the latest beta.
I have a web.de IMAP-account with STARTTLS on port 587 and SMTP-auth
RFC2554 and secure authentification is ticked. For another web.de

gmx.net-accounts. And also for my direct 1&1-account I use these

There are a number of things that can go wrong, and it's typically a
problem with the hosting provider. I don't recall you saying you had
upgraded TB! or changed any settings, in fact, you said "starting
Tuesday evening, for no apparent reason, I cannot SEND mail from the
accounts with the private domains" so that tells me something changed
somewhere else. Ocassionally, I do have issues with my provider,
either because they're having system issues (hardware issues, a patch
that went bad, problem with their network connection, etc.) or they
changed settings on their systems such that the way I've been sending
and receiving email no longer works. The former they will usually
communicate through their status site or in the support section, the
latter I usually just have to work out on my own (though I could
probably contact support if needed). So yes, things can suddenly stop
working, but it's rarely a problem with a client, particularly if
nothing changed about the client.

I don't know how 1&1 works, so I'll use my own hosting provider as an
example. When it comes to sending and receiving mail, I can do it
through an address like: mail.somehost.com for both SMTP and POP3.
Because this is shared hosting, I can also go to my exact server,
myserver.mail.somehost.com and that seems to make things work a little
more smoothly when it comes to secure connections.

Protocols and ports:

-Send mail-
Connection: "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)"
Port: 465
Authentication: "Perform SMTP Authentication", "Same user/password as
for Mail Retrieval"

-Receive mail-
Username: (I provide)
Password: (I provide)
Connection: "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)"

6:19:22 PM.

 6/5/2016, 12:10:25: SEND - TLS handshake complete

I contacted the 1&1 support. They told me that a few users complained
about not more being able to send emails. All of them use TheBat, with
Thunderbird it works i.e.
So for me it is obvious, that there are indeed some changes (the
technical supporter wasn't aware of) which are no problem for
Thunderbird but for TheBat.

> I don't know how 1&1 works, so I'll use my own hosting provider as

As I cannot send Emails via 1&1, web.de and gmx, this cannot be a
singlei issue of 1&1. My question to the supporter what all of them have
in common, and he replied: They are all part (or customer?) of United
Internet. So probably they will have changed something.

> So you should see information on the secure connection and just

Which certificates, how can I check them, how can I fix that? What is
the difference in TheBat vs. Thunderbird, so that Thunderbird *can* send
Emails (same ports, same encryption etc.) but TheBat cannot?

Thanks, but I don't know what to do. And I still do not see that fixing
that problem is my task.

There are a number of things that can go wrong, and it's typically a problem
with the hosting provider. I don't recall you saying you had upgraded TB! or
changed any settings, in fact, you said "starting Tuesday evening, for no
apparent reason, I cannot SEND mail from the accounts with the private domains"
so that tells me something changed somewhere else. Ocassionally, I do have
issues with my provider, either because they're having system issues (hardware
issues, a patch that went bad, problem with their network connection, etc.) or
they changed settings on their systems such that the way I've been sending and
receiving email no longer works. The former they will usually communicate
through their status site or in the support section, the latter I usually just
have to work out on my own (though I could probably contact support if needed).
So yes, things can suddenly stop working, but it's rarely a problem with a
client, particularly if nothing changed about the client.

I don't know how 1&1 works, so I'll use my own hosting provider as an example.
When it comes to sending and receiving mail, I can do it through an address
like: mail.somehost.com for both SMTP and POP3. Because this is shared hosting,
I can also go to my exact server, myserver.mail.somehost.com and that seems to
make things work a little more smoothly when it comes to secure connections.

Protocols and ports:

-Send mail-
Connection: "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)"
Port: 465
Authentication: "Perform SMTP Authentication", "Same user/password as for Mail
Retrieval"

-Receive mail-
Username: (I provide)
Password: (I provide)
Connection: "Secure to dedicated port (TLS)"
Port: 995
Authentication: "Regular"

When I send a message, it looks like this(blocking out some information):

 6/5/2016, 12:10:24: SEND - sending mail message(s) - 1 message(s) in queue
6/5/2016, 12:10:24: SEND - Connecting to SMTP server xxx.mail.xxx.com on port
465
 6/5/2016, 12:10:24: SEND - Initiating TLS handshake

So you should see information on the secure connection and just check to make
sure all the certificates are valid.

I'm not saying this will work for you, it's going to depend on what your
provider's systems accept, but there are other options and if their support
can't seem to help, then you might just have to play with a lot of different
settings to find a working combination. Be sure to check the log when testing
any changes, while not as detailed as I'd like, it should give you a general
idea where the connection is failing.

Good luck!

I am using a 7-series beta version. I encountered this problem one
day, as I mentioned, and not since then. I do believe GMX/1&1 had a
temporary hick-up that day, but if you are still encountering the
same, are you getting the same error message in the log that we had?

This seems to point at the email client, indeed. As people use
different security levels and different ports, what are yours?

be the reason? The Hoster? Don't think so.

I am having to use eMClient to send email. It had no problem in

I have tried the other suggestions but they do not work.

I had this problem 6-7 years ago. Like this instance, it
couldn't be The Bat and it couldn't be the ISP. In
exasperation, I left The Bat for Outlook for a year or
  two.

After the year or so away, I reinstalled the (then)
current The Bat and everything has been working since.

I wish I could be of help, but I never could locate the
problem, nor could I convince anybody else there was one.

Re: unable to send messages from four of 24 accounts

2016-06-03 Thread Harald Faber
Hi,
this morning I contacted the 1&1 support too. Of course the first thing he
blamed was TheBat, and as I do not use any other Email client as TheBat and
TheBat-Voyager for my private Emails, I couldn't say whether other Email
clients have the same problem. So we agreed to the following:
1. He would contact the backend support to find out whether there have been
taken changes and keep me informed. Dunno whether he really does that or not,
but because sending Emails has become a problem 2 days ago, there must be
changes imo.
2. I would try SMTP sending Emails with Thunderbird to check whether this is
also a client problem.

For point #2 I can confirm that it is no problem sending Emails from my web.de
account with Thunderbird with the same settings as in TheBat, that means:
SMTP: smtp.web.de
Port 587
Authentication: Normal Password (is this equivalent to "SMTP authentication RFC
2554" in TheBat?)
Connection Security: STARTTLS

So I guess the ball is in the game now for Ritlabs and 1&1 / United Internet
(web.de and gmx belong to them) to find out what UI changed so that TheBat now
has that much trouble while other Email clients have not.

This does not make sense. My problem is not with the receipt of
e-mail. It is with the sending of e-mail. Also, I use e-mail

those settings help at all.

My wife reports that the same problem is happening in our home
office.

My SMTP connection is "Secure on regular port (STARTTLS)". and,
that

 port is 587.

It seems that I need to explore with my e-mail host
service,

1&1.com, the basis for this problem.
I have had problems posting this so hope it comes through - thank you
Marck for helping.

I am having the same problems with 1&1 and TB. It has been flaky over
the last couple of days but now it won't work.

I had a long conversation with 1&1 but were unable to help. Seems to be
tied up with authentication.

I have now set up my account in emClient and copied the settings across
and it works ok. I am using POP3

I am using the following settings in eMClient

SMTP
auth.smtp.1and1.co.uk
Port 587
Security policy "Force usage of SSS/TLS
Server requires Authentication Ticked
IMAP
imap.1and1.co.uk
port 993
Security policy "Use SSS/TLS on special port (legacy)
Authentication "Use identity credentials"

The security credentials were auto selected by eMClient by negotiation
with the server.

These settings do not directly relate to TB, and I don't understand why
this should suddenly happen when nothing has changed with me. I have
even restored an earlier image to check that aspect.

Hope this is of some help to you

Regards

David

I use 1and1 and SMTP, I use 'Secure to dedicated port' and the port is 465. I
use the same for connection type for POP on port 995. See if those settings

It seems that I need to explore with my e-mail host service,

Agreed... on shared hosting. I had this with Hostmonster off & on for
more than a year. Recently I spent the money to move my domain to a VPS
which seems to have removed the problem. I have learned that
authentication error(s) can be a catchall, not just for senders'
credentials.

This is not threading, because I don't know how to reply on Gmail, only
how to create a new post. Sorry.

I just tried to send a reply, and this is the log result:

 02-Jun-16, 20:06:54: SEND - TLS handshake complete

02-Jun-16, 20:06:59: SEND - Some messages were not sent - check the log

I usually send to the list from this account without problems, so this

Hm. Maybe 1&1, gmx and web.de really use the same technology somewhere which

I have the same problems without using WiFi and do also use more than
3 accounts. The strange thing is that it suddenly happened without
changes in my TheBat version settings etc. I noticed it yesterday
evening at home and it is still not working, also with Voyager at work.

What I suppose is that there might be a problem with certificates on the email
provider side concerning SMTP?
Or did 1&1 change something and gmx and web.de use the 1&1 smtp/route whatever
(because my accounts are on web.de, gmx and 1&1)?

My first guess would be that the hotel wifi blocks port 25 to prevent
guests spambot infested systems spewing junk from their connection.
Your mainstream accounts will likely be using SMTP over the secure 465
port, which is usually open for use on public networks. It is highly
possible that your personal domain email accounts are not configured
to use TLS, SLL or StartTLS so get blocked from using port 25.

1. shorten your e-mail accounts to 1-3.
2. DO NOT use hotel untrusted open wi-fi hotspots.

unable to send messages from four of 24 accounts

2016-06-02 Thread Achdut18
Hi,

I have about 24 different e-mail accounts. All but five are various gmail
accounts. One is a Yahoo account and four use private domains that I set up
with 1&1.com

Until Tuesday of this week, everything worked fine. However, starting Tuesday
evening, for no apparent reason, I cannot SEND mail from the accounts with the
private domains IF I try to send from within The Bat e-mail client. I CAN send
e-mail from these accounts if I go online and use 1&1 webmail's facility to
send the e-mail.

These domains can RECEIVE e-mail sent from outside domains, but I cannot SEND
mail from the domains when I try to send e-mail from within The Bat e-mail
client.
I can send and receive from the gmail and yahoo domains.

I did not change any settings.

I am at a conference and am using the hotel's guest wi-fi to connect to the
Internet. That connection is working fine. Also while at the conference I
WAS able to send e-mail from the accounts in question. However several hours
later I was no longer able to send e-mail from these 1&1.com private domain
accounts.

What is causing this problem? A cold re-boot did not fix it. It also
makes no difference if I try to send a reply to a prior message or if I
compose a new message.Nor does it make a difference if I compose the
letter as an HTML document or if I compose it as text only.

Can you help me fix this?
