This happens to me too, also in almost all social media. and it is not
because I travel, but because I use VPN. Such confirmations are just
short, nonetheless, it is annoying getting that every day, even more
if you your e.g. a PC, a tablet and a phone which use different VPN
servers.

Just a remark: This happens to me often. Not only when I use a new
device but also when I log in from another country, and I travel a
lot.

You don't need to change your password. Just confirm "It was me." Then
all is fine.

You are publishing your email address. I hope you have a good spam
filter.

Instead of using that function, go to Account / Properties / Transport
and change the password there. Let us know whether it solves the
problem.

I would like to see the full error log. Can you maximise that window?

That setting is required due to Google trying to subvert one of the
connection protocols by adding their own proprietary extension that
almost no mail applications understand.

I have never seen that, but I jumped from v4.0.38 to v7.x. I don't
know if it is a bug in particular versiond, or the result of some
configuration setting.

There might be a later version you are able to upgrade to on your
existing licence - check Help | About. The next version above 5.8.10
that is on Ritlabs's Archived Versions page [0] is 6.0.12.

It certainly is possible. I only used the gmail website to create the
account in the first place and occasionaly for "website login
required" errors (see below). You need to look in the settings there and enable
POP.

In The Bat, just create an account like any other.

SMTP = smtp.gmail.com
   secure to regular (startTLS)
   port 587

POP =  pop.gmail.com
   secure to dedicated (TLS)
   port 995

Keep an eye on the account log. If your IP address for the actual
Internet connection changes, you get "website login required" errors.
That will probably happen the first time. Then just login at
www.gmail.com and logout again. Then your email client will work.

You might have to set "allow access for insecure apps" somewhere when
actually logged in to gmail in a web browser, but if this happens you
should only have to do it once.

Adrian

I don't remember the exact steps but you start at ACCOUNT>NEW and fill in the
blanks. I have had a GMAIL account within TB! for a number of years now with no
problem. My menu bar at the top of the window has an icon to GET NEW MAIL with a
drop-down arrow next to it. Clicking on the arrow will give you the option of
fetching mail from your primary account or fetching from all accounts at once.

Gmail is just one of many possible service providers.

Yes.

On the google website, log into your account. Find a setting (in account
access and security settings) with the ever-so-slightly loaded name of
"access for less secure apps", and make sure it is turned ON.

Also on the gmail website, go to your mail account and click
"settings" (which might be a sprocket wheel logo). Follow the link to
"Forwarding and POP/IMAP". You need to enable POP or IMAP access, or
both.

In The Bat!, my current gmail settings are:-

SMTP server: smtp.gmail.com
Connection: Secure to Regular Port (STARTTLS)
Port: 25 (you might need to use 26 or 465 or 587)
Authentication: Tick in Box for "Perform SMTP Authorisation (RFC2554)"
"same user/password as for mail retrieval" selected.

Mail Server: pop.gmail.com (you could use IMAP instead)
User: Recent:myUsername
Password: xxx
Connection: Secure to dedicated port (TLS)
Port: 995 (you might need to use 993)
Authentication: Regular
