Scanner and the Bat

2002-12-08 Thread Jim Lanyon
Hello Batters,

I have recently bought a Visioneer 8700 scanner with one touch e-mail
control. Only thing is, it doesn't see the bat as the e-mail
client. Not a major problem as there are workarounds, but it would
be nice if possible. Any ideas?

Can i suggest... You throw the sucker into Photoshop first, and do
every damn thing possible to get that scan as small and as quick to
download as possible... The more recent versions of Photoshop have a
fantastic little tool for this called 'Save to Web' - its under the
file menu, just below the standard save options - use it, learn to
love and caress it, and give it a nice big hug when you are finished
with a nice bite (byte ;-) sized image.

I just say this all through frustration in receiving many a 'one touch
scan' in my email and having to wait considerable time for the 2mb
image to download through the trusty 'ol 28.8k.

But I'm sure an email such as this doesn't need to be sent to TBUDL,
because no bat user would do such a stupid thing in the first place,
so I'll just go off and hide my head for suggesting this email reply
in the first place :-)

   LOL...However I wasn't thinking of sending pictures. I have
photoshop and would indeed reduce the image size to suit an E-mail,
incidently, it dosen't see photoshop 7 either!!! Good buy huh!

However, I take your point about attachment sizes, even if they are
   documents.

Actually, I like the Visioneer OneTouch. You can get scanners with
better resolution for the price, but the overall setup is something I
find very nice--and worth the trade-off.

Anyway, try setting up the PaperPort program that came with the
scanner to recognize TB. I think the scanner takes its options from
there.

Open up PaperPort and click on FileLinksCreate a New Link. Follow
the prompts to set up a link to The Bat! (or Photoshop 7, or
whatever). Close PaperPort.

Then open up the Visioneer Configure screen and select the Email tab.
Then select the Preferences tab (at the top on the far right) and
check the Show all Destinations box. Click OK and go back the email
screen. TB should show up in the list of options for you to choose.
