Mystery cave was, I think, Sótano de Vasquez. I found something a few pages on in the same issue of the Texas Caver that clarified. The map shows entrance drop as two drops with a ledge, 17 and 84 m, which together agree pretty well with the rough depth in the article about the fiasco
