In the *Gītā,* IX. 10, however, it is said that *prakṛti* produces all that
is moving and all that is static through the superintendence of God. The
word *prakṛti* is used in at least two different senses, as a primary and
ultimate category and as a nature of God’s being. It is quite possible that
the primary meaning of *prakṛti* in the *Gītā* is God’s nature; the other
meaning of *prakṛti**,* as an ultimate principle from which the *guṇas* are
produced, is simply the hypostatization of God’s nature. The whole group
consisting of pleasure, pain, aversion, volition
, consciousness, the
eleven senses, the mind-organ, the five elements, ego hood, intellect
*(buddhi),* the undifferentiated *(avyaktha,* meaning *prakṛti* existing,
probably, as the sub-conscious mind) power of holding the senses and the
power of holding together the diverse mental functions *(saṃghāta
)* with their
modifications and changes, is called *kṣetra
.* In another place
the body alone is called *kṣetra*. It seems, therefore, that the word
*kṣetra* signifies in its broader sense not only the body, but also the
entire mental plane, involving the diverse mental functions, powers,
capabilities, and also the undifferentiated sub-conscious element. In this
connection it may be pointed out that *kṣetra* is a term which is specially
reserved to denote the complex of body and mind, exclusive of the living
principle of the self, which is called *kṣetra-jña,* or the knower of the
*kṣetra,* or *kṣetrin,* the possessor of the *kṣetra* or the body-mind
complex. It is said that, just as the sun illuminates this whole world, so
does the *kṣetrin* illuminate the whole *kṣetra*

Why all these; the body was a kshetra; now it is extinct; food consumer
is consumed by nature as food; (Rig Vedam and many Upanishads). Smell is
good or bad according to the prakriti Gunas. Where the good is off from the
body, what is left is Thamaso Guna finally which is the left-out EGO
stinking. Prakriti, the nature of atmosphere and GOD , teaches the species
to change from the thamaso to sattva guna; and that nature reacts ; every
destruction of nature , will ricochet back , in the different,
unmanageable, crying life of those species, who caused it.

When Photons Leave

2022-12-31 Thread Markendeya Yeddanapudi

*Mar*When Photons Leave

When an organism dies, the dead body becomes putrid and gives foul smell.
Does it mean that the organism is no longer sending useful smell messages,
adding to the learning from the troposphere? Does it mean that the photons
stopped photon-synthesizing the living of life by the organism? Does it
mean the end of quantum entanglement from the quantum particles of the
atoms in the cells of the organism? Does it mean that the basic core of the
organism, the arrested photons achieved freedom and have returned to the
parent electromagnetic waves? Does it mean that the organism achieved
promotion to next grade?

The arrested photons, thanks to the photosynthesis in plants, from the
photons from the Sun, become food, which the bacteria, the mitochondria in
the cells, free the photons from the food, converting the body of the
organism into an electromagnetic field called life.

The electromagnetic waves, at the ultimate speed traverse the Universe. A
large body on the way causes a bend in the waves, due to gravitational
pull. (The High brow confusion to appear as High Standard is-‘Space-time is
curved’.)

Some of them get arrested in leaves and they photosynthesize. Life forms
get photosynthesized. And every life form joins the photons in their
struggle to return to the speed of light and join the parent
electromagnetic waves. That struggle is the living of life. Does it mean
that deaths is the ultimate positive experience, the wonderful promotion,
the freedom of joining the electromagnetic waves and traverse continuously
the whole universe?

Then the most essential need of life is food containing the photons that
get activated by the mitochondria and the body where the particles in the
atoms of the cells freely participate in quantum entanglement?

In this mission of every organism, to return to the speed of light, all
organisms team up emotionally, via breathing, smelling, sensing,
perceiving, understanding and interacting as a team with the fundamental
mission.

Now, how far are modern economic activities helping or harming the life
forms? Does the mechanical paradigm help or damage? For mechanization,
emotions are contaminations, called bias. In the name of science that is
totally dependent on technology and not on the living nature, which is
fundamentally emotional, nature is being tampered with.

A person’s real character can be seen mainly in his unconscious actions and
things he forgets. The Holistic Matrix reality is dumped to make way to the
Cartesian approach of isolating factors as causes and effects. The result
is mechanization and conversion of life into mechanized economic
activities. And as a result we are destroying nature continuously calling
it economic activity. Is this ultimate perversion, the destruction of
nature, the road to hell?

Hope that every University starts a ‘Freedom to Nature’, parks. Hope that
the Universities get freedom from the trance of technology.

Q3 Why are American Airlines planes silver?

A3  Jim Mowreader, Printing Expert(2008–present)Dec 22

American Airlinesdecided to polish their jets because paint is heavy. There’s
about 500 poundsof paint on a Boeing 737, and larger jets have more. The idea
was, if they removed the 500 pounds ofpaint from the aircraft they could save
money on fuel and carry a small amountof extra cargo.

American Airlines no longer buys polished jets, although they still have one in
their “retro livery.” Two things led to thisdecision. One is that American has
Airbus jets in their fleet along withBoeings. An Airbushas composite fuselage
components, which must be painted. The otheris that it costs more to maintain
the polish on an unpainted jet than they weresaving in fuel.

American’s Retro Livery program is very cool.American Airlines has bought
several airlines in its history. They maintain onejet in the liveries of each
of those airlines, plus one from each of theirhistoric liveries, to remember
where they came from.

Q4 What foods are bad for the liver?

A4  Muhammad Khubaib, CEO at Abah.PK(2016–present)Tue

There arecertain foods that may be harmful to the liver in large amounts or for
people whohave liver damage or liver disease. Some of these foods include:

Fried foods: These can be high in fat and maycontribute to the development of
fatty liver disease.

Alcohol: Excessive alcohol consumption can leadto liver damage and increase the
risk of liver disease.

Processed foods: These can be high in salt, sugar, and unhealthy fats, which may
contribute to liver damage.

High-sugar foods and drinks: Consuming too muchsugar can lead to obesity, which
is a risk factor for liver disease…

It is important to keep in mind that it is not necessarilythe specific food
that is bad for the liver, but rather the amount andfrequency of consumption
that can have negative effects. It is important to maintain a healthy, balanced
diet and to limit your intakeof unhealthy foods. If you have liver disease or
are at risk of developing it,your doctor or a dietitian can help you create a
meal plan that is appropriatefor your specific needs.

Carnatic music flows in Shenbagavalli's veins

On receiving the national award, she requested the state and the central
governments to offer online bachelor’s degrees in music at all Indian
universities for non-resident students.

CHENNAI: It was November 17 when an unexpected call broke the daily musical
routine of V Shenbagavalli, a visually impaired Carnatic music tutor. She
was expecting calls from her students inquiring about music class later in
the day; instead, Shenbagavalli gets a call from the Union government
informing she has been nominated for the National Award for Empowerment of
Persons with Disabilities under the self-employment category. She received
the award from President Draupadi Murmu on December 3 in Delhi.

Looking back, Shenbagavalli recalls her grandmom, Gomathi
Sankaranarayanan–a stately vainika who introduced her to the enchanting
nuances of the instrument. “As I got accustomed to her musical trails and
traits, I conscientiously decided to focus more on Carnatic music. This was
also the time when I met the oldest member of our family – a century-old
veena, which was passed down from my great-grandmother to my grandmother
and finally me. I’m still using it,” she says with a warm smile.

The vainika, who now runs a music school SV music school at her home in
Chromepet in Chennai, teaches the Veena, keyboard and vocals to nearly 100
students, including students with disabilities. She also offers online
classes to students from the US, Dubai, Qatar, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.

Expressing happiness over receiving an award for the first time in her
life, 47-year-old Shenbagavalli remarks how the veena has been synonymous
with her life. “This award speaks volumes for me and people like me. I was
just 10 years old and living in my hometown of Sankarankovil when I was
affected by a rare eye disease called retinitis pigmentosa. After I
completely lost my eyesight, I stopped going to school. Nevertheless, I
managed to pass the ESLC and SSLC exams privately and scored 60% in both,
all thanks to my supportive father who was also the school headmaster.

In 1995, Shenbagavalli moved to Chennai to learn the Braille system,
something that was still foreign to her hometown back in the day. She also
got married and got a bachelor’s degree in music by 2005, which gave her
all the more reasons to pursue her passion. Her most momentous decision was
founding her music school in 2012, which she modestly says was inspired by
her guru’s advice.

Shenbagavalli has even performed in a few events, including a relative’s
wedding function. “Due to my limited vision, it is never easy for me to
carry around the veena all by myself and reach a location without someone’s
company,” she adds. In 2017, Shenbagavalli played the veena in the
traditional Thiruvaiyaru Thyagaraja Aradhana, which she quotes as “one of
her most cherished lifetime achievements' '.

On receiving the national award, she requested the state and the central
governments to offer online bachelor’s degrees in music at all Indian
universities for non-resident students. She also advised those with
disabilities to “be confident, not depend on others for survival and chase
their passion.”
Shebagavalli says getting her school registered is the next big thing on
her mind.

II Serotonin Deficiency Directly Linked With Depression in
Ground-breaking Study

By ELSEVIER DECEMBER 27, 2022

A new research study provides the first direct evidence of disrupted
serotonin release in the brains of people with depression.

*New research in Biological Psychiatry offers the first direct evidence of
diminished 5-HT release cements “serotonin hypothesis.”*

Researchers have postulated since the 1960s that major depression stems
from disruptions in the serotonin neurotransmitter system. However, the
evidence for that idea, though plentiful, was indirect. In fact, a *recent
comprehensive analysis*

of
existing studies concluded that there was not strong evidence to support
the “serotonin hypothesis.” In its wake, some in the field have called for
a reexamination of the hypothesis. Not so fast, says a new study that
provides direct evidence of disrupted serotonin release in the brains of
individuals with depression.

The study was published recently in the journal *Biological Psychiatry*.

Depression is among the most common mental illnesses and causes of
disability worldwide. Despite the lack of direct evidence for disrupted
serotonin signaling in the depressed brain, medications used to treat
depression overwhelmingly target the serotonin signaling system to increase
extracellular serotonin, also known as 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT). Only
about half of patients respond to antidepressants, and fewer than 30%
experience total remission. A better understanding of 5-HT dynamics in
depression could help guide more effective therapies.

“Our thinking about the role of serotonin in depression has evolved
significantly over the past decade. We once thought that serotonin changes
could account for the entirety of depression. When this simple hypothesis
could no longer be supported, some were inclined to dismiss any role for
serotonin in depression,” said John Krystal, MD, editor-in-chief of *Biological
Psychiatry*. “The current study provides important new support for further
exploration of the role of serotonin in depression. This is particularly
timely, as drugs targeting serotonin receptors, such as psychedelics, are
being explored as potential new treatments for mood disorders.”

The study, conducted by Invicro, a global, imaging contract research
organization, in collaboration with researchers from Imperial College
London, King’s College London, Copenhagen University, and the University of
Oxford, used a novel imaging technique to look directly at the magnitude of
serotonin released from neurons in response to a pharmacological challenge.
In previous work, these researchers pioneered the use of positron emission
tomography (PET) with the radioligand [11C]Cimbi-36 to detect serotonin
release. In the current study, the researchers applied this methodology to
compare serotonin release in 17 patients with depression and 20 healthy
individuals.

David Erritzoe, MRCPsych, PhD, lead author of the paper, said, “This study
used a new and more direct method to measure serotonin in the living human
brain, and the results suggest reduced serotonin (release) functioning in
depression. This imaging method, in combination with similar methods for
other brain systems, has the potential to help us to better understand the
varying — sometimes limited or even lacking — treatment responses that
people with depression have to antidepressant medication.”

Participants with depression and healthy controls underwent PET scanning
with [11C]Cimbi-36 to measure 5-HT2A receptor availability in the frontal
cortex; the two groups did not differ significantly at baseline. Both
groups then received a dose of d-amphetamine, a stimulant drug that works
to increase 5-HT concentration outside of neurons, where it interacts with
5-HT2A receptors and reduces the binding of [11C]Cimbi-36. In a second
scanning session three hours after drug administration, healthy control
participants had significantly reduced 5-HT2A receptor availability,
indicating an increase in serotonin levels. Participants with depression,
however, did not show a significant decrease in binding potential,
suggesting they had a blunted serotonin release capacity in key brain
regions.

The study found no relationship between the severity of depression and the
extent of serotonin release capacity deficits. Of note, all patients were
free of antidepressant medication, and 11 out of the 17 had never received
antidepressant treatment, indicating that low serotonin release capacity is
a feature of depression rather than a result of antidepressant treatment.

This first direct evaluation of serotonin levels in the brain of
individuals with depression is a major step forward in laying to rest the
speculations questioning the involvement of serotonergic neurotransmission
in the pathology of depression. Depression is a multifaceted disorder

SCIENCE ALWAYS CHANGES MIND

2022-12-31 Thread Rajaram Krishnamurthy
I *Is all matter made up of both particles and waves?*

By Paul Sutter

According to quantum mechanics, the physics theory that describes the zoo
of subatomic particles, all matter can be described as both particles and
waves. But is it real?

Wave-particle duality is a cornerstone of quantum mechanics
,
which is our modern theory of how subatomic particles behave. The duality
states that all particles (in fact, all objects) have a wave-like property
associated with them. While most standard interpretations of quantum
mechanics treat this wave-like property as a neat mathematical trick for
calculating the probability of a particle being in one place or another,
some more radical interpretations elevate the wave to a real entity that
exists just as much as particles do. One of these interpretations, known as
the pilot-wave theory, posits that every interaction in the universe can be
described by a single set of equations — if only we could figure those out.

*THE ORIGINAL WAVES*

In 1924, French physics doctoral student Louis de Broglie proposed that
matter has a wave-like property. De Broglie was inspired by the discovery
of wave-particle duality in light. For centuries, physicists had debated
whether light was made of tiny particles or some sort of waves. In the
mid-1800s the debate seemed to be settled with James Clerk Maxwell’s
discovery of the electromagnetic field, and his realization that light was
made of electromagnetic waves, according to "The History of Quantum
Mechanics" (CreateSpace Independent Publishing, 2017).

But in 1899, German physicist Max Planck was trying to understand a kind of
radiation known as blackbody radiation (the spectrum of light emitted by a
heated object), and the only way he could explain its properties was if he
allowed for light to be emitted in discrete little chunks, or quanta —
meaning the emitted light could be described both as particles and
electromagnetic waves.

A few years later, Albert Einstein
 proposed that it isn’t
just the emission of light that is quantized, but light itself. According
to Einstein, light is made of little particles (eventually named photons
), and when a bunch of
photons get together they act like a wave. This wave-particle duality,
although radical, could explain a host of experiments and observations.

*PLAY SOUND*

Planck and Einstein proposed that the wavelength of light is inversely
proportional to its momentum. So the more momentum (energy) a photon has,
the smaller its wavelength. De Broglie took this simple relationship and
got a seemingly crazy idea. Light has momentum and energy, and it has a
wave-like property. Matter also has momentum and energy, so perhaps it also
has a wave-like property.

Nervous, de Broglie’s thesis advisor sent the idea over to Einstein, who
gave it his stamp of approval.

*QUANTUM WAVES*

While the development of quantum mechanics had begun with Planck’s work,
progress stalled for a couple decades. De Broglie’s idea was the catalyst
needed to bring quantum theory into its modern form. With the realization
of wave-particle duality, physicists like Erwin Schrödinger could develop a
full quantum theory that explained the behavior of electrons inside of
atoms, according to Erwin Schröodinger's landmark 1926 paper
(opens
in new tab).

But the question remained: What exactly are waves of matter? Schrödinger
argued that subatomic particles like electrons are literally smeared across
space, but his interpretation didn’t agree with experiments that showed
electrons to be point-like particles. Then German physicist Max Born
proposed an idea that would eventually evolve into the so-called
Copenhagen interpretation of quantum mechanics: Matter waves are waves of
probability that indicate where someone can find particles the next time
they look for them. Where the waves have high values, there is a strong
likelihood of finding a particle.

*PILOT WAVES*

The double-slit experience demonstrates that matter and energy can exhibit
characteristics of both a wave and a particle.

De Broglie had a different idea. He also believed that the waves are real,
but not as a replacement for the particles. Instead, he believed they exist
alongside the particles, propagating through space and telling the
particles where to go. No one could see the true path of the particle
trajectories, which meant particles seemed to be guided by quantum
randomness, but de Broglie argued that there was no randomness involved.
Instead: “pilot waves” always knew what to do.

De Broglie would eventually drop this idea in favor of the
waves-as-probabilities interpretation, but decades later American physicist
David
