[tw5] Re: Using <$list> widget to generate table rows

2021-08-12 Thread springer
Louis, responding not directly to your question, but to the kind of task
that seems to lie behind it:

if you're trying to display tables with rows that meet filter conditions,
you might be well served by Mohammad's Shiraz plugin
, which offers dynamic tables with
many lovely features.

If you stand on Mohammad's shoulders, your tiddlywiki time is freed up to
solve more nuanced problems!

I will compare it with the macro you attached. Blessings!

[tw5] Re: Feedback desired for HAL macro

2021-08-12 Thread PMario
HI,
The hover-animation could probably be borrowed from my links-to-tabs macor
https://wikilabs.github.io/editions/link-to-tabs
It's CSS only, but it needs type: text/vnd.tiddlywiki to work properly.

[tw5] Re: Feedback desired for HAL macro

Hi David,

You do have a very fine sense, what can be useful for other users. I like
it!

I did change quite a bit and hope you like it too.

Yea .. a bit. Especially since you mention printing. So you probably don't
want them to be shown on paper.

I can't believe, that I will write this: You could make an "invisible"
edit link, that will only show on hover. So only users, who know, where the
link is will see it.

For the "link" you could change the hal-caption() macro, that I did add to
the code in a way that it will use a link to the title instead of the pure
text.

This behaviour could be changed with a global setting. eg:
$:/.giffmex/hal/config/show-caption-link and a reveal-widget. The value
defaults to "no". If it is set to "yes" then it shows the alternative view.
... It would also be possible to switch between 2 macro names instead of
"yes" and "no" ...

I think you can borrow some code from my

>

Yes. See the new hal-caption() macro in the code

> 4. Opinions: do you like it better with or without blurb field?
>

I do like this field, but imo this will depend on the users taste.

---

I would suggest the following things.

   - Make the macro code readable, to be able to change stuff
  - \whitespace trim ... will remove the extra whitespace, so no
  artefacts are part of the HTML code
  - Show caption if available ... Using the same mechanism as the core
   /toc -macro
   - Made the macro code visible in view mode (Kudos go to Eric Shulman;)
   - Added the hal-blurb() macro, so it can be switched on / off in the
   future. A macro makes future development easier
   - I did replace the SPAN elements with DIV elements. SPANs are inline
   and DIV are block elements. So now "display: block" in CSS needed!
   - I did replace the B elements with STRONG because of some info at MDN

   See 2nd paragraph there.
   - I did remove all the elements (except of 1), because they
   should not be used for styling - CSS is used for styling
  - There is 1 element left, because it is needed if the "title"
  + "blurb" is selected and copy / pasted. There needs to be a space in
  between the title and the blurb
  - I did replace the spaces with tc-small-gap-left which is part of
  the vanilla CSS

  since 5.1.23.

   - I did make the Stylesheet readable
   - I did clean the Stylesheet a bit and add new elements needed
  - There is a hover "animation" for the buttons now
  - The mouse cursor changes shape, to give user-feedback, when they
  are able to click something

Hope you like it.
Code is in the attachment

IMO that's not all things, that may be done. Especially the link- and
edit-buttons could be improved with settings.

It can only be attributable to human error.
This sort of thing has cropped up before, and it has always been due to
human error."

[tw5] Re: Better indexes through semantic modeling

2021-08-12 Thread Soren Bjornstad
*Springer*, that's really cool, I don't think I've ever seen that
particular layout before! I do a similar thing to your “tldr” in my
Zettelkasten, extending the “description” field to non-system tiddlers and
displaying it at the top next to the gem icon if present:

[image: ksnip_20210812-125810.png]

*TT*, I'm puzzled where you got the idea that I think book indexes were/are
a poor tool, or lacking in either authorial effort or utility. Are you able
to point to location(s) in the post which are “inaccurate” or give you that
impression? If so, I would like to correct it, as that is the exact
opposite of what I think. I've been compiling and using keyword indexes
almost daily myself for about twelve years (almost half my life), and they
are a powerful tool – not to mention thesauruses, concordances,
encyclopedias, etc., as you point out. I wrote a guide on using indexes for
your notes

 back
in 2013. It's exactly because they're so good (and, I think, neglected
nowadays) that I'm interested in expanding them.

And I think many of us today are too “computer exceptionalist”. Good ideas
are mostly independent of medium, it's just that sometimes they're really
hard, or a comparatively bad intuitive fit, in one medium, so they don't
make a lot of sense there. Or to put it another way, a system like what I'm
proposing would be totally doable even on paper...just *way* more
time-consuming to create and maintain.

 Folks,

 I have a number of projects that could use icons placed in the sidebar,
 top menu and other places. They would indicate some status such as a green
 storage icon when the local storage is on and much more. I call these
 indicators, They may have tooltips or actions on click, with or without
 modifier keys.

 I have attempted to build a new element tagged $:/tags/SideBarSegment
 and list-before $:/core/ui/SideBarSegments/tabs

 The problem I have for for which I seek help is I am finding it
 difficult to reduce icons and buttons to a half height and not have
 unnecessary white space above and below the indicators. Margins, padding
 tweeks etc... have not succeeded. We may use existing buttons and create
 new ones, the idea is it provides additional place(s) for which we can
 display content via a tag, so if I publish an indicator and you do the
 same
 they can coexist.

 I would hope to publish this to set a de facto standard, say using the
 tag $:/tags/indicator so we can all add additional and conditional
 iconised
 information in the sideBar and elsewhere as desired.

 Can anyone help me build this with custom css to minimise its use of
 space? Ideally customisable.

 Regards
 Tones

[tw5] Re: Help please for indicators in SideBar

2021-08-12 Thread Télumire
Ok now I understand what you mean … This is because tiddly wiki wrap the
content in a tag, which has a margin of 14px. So to fix that, since we
can't style an element based on it's content (at least not until the
pseudo-class :has is supported) nor give it a class (as far as I know), we
need to wrap the indicators in a container and use it to compensate with
negative margin.

The code becomes :

\whitespace trim

{{$:/core/ui/Buttons/edit}}

..etc..

{{$:/core/ui/Buttons/cancel}}

And the css becomes

.indicator-container {
display:block;
margin-top: -14px;
margin-bottom: -26px;
line-height:unset;
}

.indicator-item{
height:40px;
width:40px;
display:inline-block;
position:relative;
}

.indicator-item button, .indicator-item button * {
width:100%!important;
height:100%!important;
padding:unset;
margin:unset;
display:inline-block;
left:0;
top:0;
}

[tw5] Timely help needed

2021-08-12 Thread Ste

Hello wonderful people's.
I need help with time.
I am sure there have been discussions about this but alas I can't seem to
find what I'm looking for. Google groups. You know how it is!

I have a date in a field. I would like to use this same date in another
tiddler, but it needs to be plain text so it can be used by the vis.js time
line plugin..

I'd also like to be able to add/ subtract days and have it back into a form
the plugin can use.

I'd like a date picker to return the same date in different formats to
different fields, or be able to convert an existing date into a different
format, and for it to be useable by the time line or the timely calender.

So not much really...

Thanks for your time :)

 It was well worth reading!

*THE GOOD*

Great example of logical working through to a satisfactory outcome.

I complimented you before that your use of *visual illustrations* helps
earth the discussion really well!
I think they definitely help folk who are not so versed in the conceptual
matrix you lay out.

*THE BAD*

TBH your comments about the Old Media of Books are simply inaccurate.

The Book has had (when required) very *good *indexing where authors chose
to do it.
Think about the richness of the indices of Roget's Thesaurus.
Think about all those Biblical things that Dave Gifford and several million
other Christians sweat over.
Their CONCORDANCES has been a venerable partner in print works for a very
long time.

*THE UGLY*

Nothing. Your basic thing is additive.

Re: [tw5] Re: Using <$list> widget to generate table rows

2021-08-12 Thread Jeremy Ruston
Hi Louis

As you've discovered, the wikitext table syntax is very simple, and doesn't
support dynamic generation. The philosophy of TiddlyWiki's wikitext syntax is
to provide easy-to-type shortcuts for common idioms that expand to sequences of
widgets. In designing the wikitext syntax we are able to favour simplicity over
flexibility because it is always possible for users to drop down into "raw
widgets" to get the finest possible degree of control.

One can visualise the various elements of wikitext as a hierarchy of
complexity/flexibility:

* Wikitext syntax is simple, easy to type and remember
* Macros add dynamic effects with the simplest possible syntax (because there
are no closing tags to get mismatched)
* Widgets (and HTML) provide the base level of elementary primitives

Best wishes

Jeremy.

Update from the front: One can now change the recognized language to the
BCP-47 language codes specified in
https://cloud.google.com/speech-to-text/docs/languages
Additionally, there's a setting ($:/config/speech-to-text/continuous set to
"yes") that allows for continuous listening (listening doesn't stop
automatically, one must stop it by hand or voice command)

all the best, BTC

Sounds great!

*Just FYI. A side point. *Whatever is going on in the background with the
API still slightly confuses me. Particularly on what version of the
(variant) language gets returned in text. For instance I'm testing on
Chrome and Windows tablets. Even though the default is *en-US* the
spellings that come back are IN *en-GB* (e.g. colour, not color; and
honour, not honor). I have NO idea where in the chain of things that
happens. It may be because I set machine & browser defaults to British
English and that interacts with the recognition somewhere??
I should emphasise this it NOT a problem for me since I dominantly write in
British English. But it is a bit confusing! :-)

Thank you!

[tw5] Feedback desired for HAL macro

2021-08-12 Thread David Gifford

Hi everyone

Just got Pfizer shot #2 yesterday, and no reactions yet. I was poking at
the fixes I need to do on the Subsume plugin, and got distracted enough to
came up with this idea, somewhat similar:

https://giffmex.org/experiments/hal.macro.html (HAL = header and list)

I would appreciate feedback:

1. Is there a more concise / proper way to do the macro?
2. Do you think the link and edit icons are too annoying? Any suggestions?
(I am on the fence about how they look and whether the 'view' link is
necessary. If it were just for me, I would only have the edit link. But if
I share online content this way, some might want to open a tiddler to view
it, share a link it, print it, etc, and the edit stuff would confuse them).
3. Is there a way to set the list filter $view so that it displays: caption
field if there is one, and title field if there is no caption?
4. Opinions: do you like it better with or without blurb field?

Re: [tw5] Re: You ask, I Deliver: Language switching via Oral Command and a Promise of custom commands to come in the Text-to-Speech Plugin!

2021-08-12 Thread BurningTreeC
Hi @TiddlyTweeter, we're working on making ANY API-supported language work.
We could imagine adding a tiddler $:/config/speech-to-text/language and
users can set the text of that tiddler to en-US, de-DE or whatever they like

Some news from the front:
users can now define their own keywords, which means that they can add
words to "Ok" and "Wiki" using a config tiddler - like "Pasta" for "Ok" and
"Maccheroni" for "Wiki" ... then you can trigger the listening for commands
using "Pasta Maccheroni"
users can now define their own actions triggered by voice-commands. See the
actualized Usage section on https://speech-to-text.finnsoftware.net/

best wishes, BTC

Ciao Flanc ...

After using this a few days I do think that being able to switch via *"OK
Wiki" to ANY API supported language would make good sense*.

I don't see the need to limit the available recognitions to only languages
that TW has editions for.
WHY? Because it is often the case we use software in English UIs to do
things in other languages.
It is not an impediment to DICTATING to TRANSCRIPTION since the process is
self-contained and has no UI implications.

FYI, if you limit language switch it to ONLY the TW Language Editions I
think you will get endless requests to add more!

For instance, I could, as I mentioned before, do with access to SLOVENIAN
recognition. :-)

An opinion.

Re: [tw5] Re: Shiraz Plugin: New Release 2.4.0

2021-08-12 Thread Mohammad Rahmani
Hi Walt,

Thank you for your kind words and great to hear you like Shiraz!

The only dependency on TW 5.2.0 is the quick table (e.g. table-csv) so you
can use all features with 5.1.23 except quick table.
If you use table-csv in 5.1.23, it will create the table, but the sort
function will not work as expected.
There is no risk of data loss.

By the way, as TW always recommends, take a full backup before using new
tools.

Best wishes
Mohammad

The documentation is exemplary (already was, in fact; now it's beyond
compare), and the functionality it brings to styling of tiddlers
-especially tables, now so easy to manipulate- is something i'm going to be
using heavily for sure.

Before i upgrade tho, i have to ask: Is Shiraz 2.4.0 fully compatible with
TW 5.1.23, notwithstanding the dependency of "Quick tables" on TW 5.2.0?
If we invoke some such dependent feature by accident, does it "fail

[tw5] Shiraz Plugin: New Release 2.4.0

2021-08-12 Thread Mohammad Rahmani
Shiraz plugin has just got a new update!

The major change is the addition of new *QUICK TABLE* (e.g. automatically
create table from csv data)
For video tutorial see:
https://groups.google.com/g/tiddlywiki/c/RUyQNJ_wpCc/m/odOFkGW2BAAJ

A comprehensive documentation was also added, see Shiraz Tutorial / Quick
Table on https://kookma.github.io/TW-Shiraz

Shiraz is a small framework of stylesheets, templates and macros to create
stylish contents in Tiddlywiki. Shiraz has customized elements like alerts,
cards, panels, images, *static tables*, *dynamic tables*, *quick tables,*
badges, texts, etc. Shiraz uses some modified CSS classes from Bootstrap
4.3.1.

Code and demo

   - Demo: https://kookma.github.io/TW-Shiraz
   - Code: https://github.com/kookma/TW-Shiraz

*It is highly recommended to backup your data before trying any new plugin!
Do it before installing shiraz*.
*Quick tables in Shiraz depends on new features in Tiddlywiki 5.2.0
(https://tiddlywiki.com/prerelease )*

If you like it star it at https://github.com/kookma/TW-Shiraz

As I did read that section, I did think in a similar direction. I was
thinking about a "teaser" text that is shown in "Blog overview listings".
Sometimes it's the first paragraph of the text itself and sometimes it is a
short summary, that comes later in the text.

In Australia if you get a test because you were a close or casual contact
with Covid you have to self isolate until you get the result (24-48 hours
max). Ee would not be allowed (with some special exceptions) to go to work
today. Be carful.

Today I proudly got my second Astra-Zeneca after apparently the ideal 12
weeks and I hope to get a booster from an RNA vaccine in the next 6-12
months

Then perhaps we can visit France again, and isolate at home on our return,
if necessary.

It is a curse to say "may you live in interesting times".

[tw5] Re: Help please for indicators in SideBar

2021-08-12 Thread TW Tones
Télumire

I just tried this on tiddlywiki.com;

Thanks, we are almost there.

I set the width and height to 15px, look like I wanted then added
list-before = $:/core/ui/SideBarSegments/tabs

Once it moves above the tabs there is too much white space above and below

[image: Snag_1f281978.png]

Is there some way to remove or reduce this space top and bottom?

Regards
Tones

[tw5] Re: Save to Github -- I keep getting "Error while saving: XMLHttpRequest error code: 404"

2021-08-12 Thread Pum Walters
OK Guys. Thank you for your perseverance! I did as you suggested, typing
everything instead of cut-and-past, and used a new Personal key (gist,
notifications, repo) and now it worked.
*Thanks again!*

 Where it says "master" for branch, try removing that text and typing it
 back in manually.
