Thanks, Bimlas. I checked the Shadows menu for that tiddler, but I don't
see it. Where I can find it?

Re: [tw5] Re: XMLhttpRequest Errors

2020-10-08 Thread Rika Sukenik
hi! just following up on this. Anyone know what could be the cause of the
xmlhttp errors? I am now getting the errors on my domain server
(www.rikasukenik.com) when I build the tiddlers in seperate files and when
I build the tiddlers in 1 file.

Looking at the build command, it's
using $:/plugins/tiddlywiki/tiddlyweb/save/offline so perhaps there's
something going on with that plugin? I thought maybe I'd disable it, but
the warning on tiddlywiki for disabling that plugin is ominous (can't
re-enable it using the browser). Any ideas on how I can troubleshoot? Thank
you!

[tw5] wiki is not responsive on public domain

2020-10-05 Thread Rika Sukenik
hi! my wiki is working fine on my local server, but it's not interactive on
my public domain, meaning I can't click on any menu items and I don't see
the 2 tiddlers I created.

I used nodeJS to build the static site & I added all of the files in the
static folder to my github pages repo. I also added the static.html file,
which I renamed to index.html. That file was created outside of the static
folder (not sure if it matters). The files that I added are the 3 shown
below, plus index.html. On my domain, I can see my theme but I can't click
or search. Any help is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

 "text/plain"
 "--rendertiddler",
 "$:/core/templates/static.template.css",

[tw5] XMLhttpRequest Errors

2020-10-06 Thread Rika Sukenik
hi! i'm getting 3 XMLhttpRequest errors when my page loads. You can see the
errors here: www.rikasukenik.com

the errors appeared after I made the below updates to my tiddliwiki.info
file. I made the edits because I had an issue yesterday with site
non-responsiveness after using --build static. Javascript was not included
in the static html file. I got some guidance to add a test command, but now
I'm getting these XMLhttpRequest errors.

I appreciate some eyes on this problem! thank you!

"test": [
 "--rendertiddler",
 "$:/core/save/all",
 "index.html",
 "text/plain",
 "--rendertiddler",
 "$:/core/templates/static.template.css",

[tw5] Is there a way to recreate tiddlywiki.info file?

2020-09-30 Thread Rika Sukenik
I accidentally deleted my tiddlywiki.info file & now I can't start the
tiddly sever. I have the following files in my :wiki directory index.html,
static.css, alltiddlers.html. Is it possible to recreate the
tiddlywiki.info from the files I have available? I've only made a few
tweaks to my Tiddlywiki so it won't be catastrophic if I need to start
over. Else I'll count myself as lucky and continue forging ahead building
out my digital garden :)

Re: [tw5] Is there a way to recreate tiddlywiki.info file?

2020-10-01 Thread Rika Sukenik
Great, thanks. I had to create a new wiki directory and start the node
server from there to get the tiddlywiki.info file. However, the changes in
my html file are not reflected on the server. This makes sense since the
tiddlywiki.info file has plugin & theme info in it. Hmm, is there a way to
automatically update the .info file from the html file?

Best,
Rika Sukenik

[tw5] Re: Roam Research is NOT a model. It's a money machine.

2020-09-17 Thread Rika Sukenik
Hi all.
If I may, I'd like to chime in. I'm a new Tiddlywiki user and I've also
been a Roam user for several months. Both are wonderful products. I think -
at least for right now - there is space for both tools in the knowledge
management ecosystem. I think it would be helpful if I provide my personal
experience using Roam & Tiddlywiki, in the hopes of shedding light on each
product's strengths and weaknesses and how to potentially think about
forging a path ahead.

Let me start by explaining how I roamed onto Roam. I was doing some
serendipitous Internet searching on neuroscience. I don't remember the
details of what I was searching fo, but I stumbled on Anne-Laure's blog,
so I must have had used some keywords associated with motivation or
productivity. Through Anne-Laure's writing, I discovered Roam (I also
discovered TiddlyWiki through Anne-Laure's article(s)). I was intrigued. I
fell down the rabbit hole of seemingly endless Roam tutorials and content.
It was overwhelming, but super exciting because Roam exposed me to new
ideas that I had not heard of before. I know some folks have made the claim
that these ideas are not new - I agree; but, they were new to me. Roam's
content was my gateway to these ideas. Switching gears to my experience
using Roam, in short, it's pretty clunky. It's not a beautiful and seamless
user experience like Notion or Evernote. In fact, there's not even a mobile
app. It requires some coding knowledge to understand how to use it. Again,
it's clunky. I'm not happy about paying the subscription fee, but I'm
biting the bullet because the community brings me value. I've learned a
lot.

Enter Tiddlywiki. I was pumped when I discovered it through Anne-Laure
because it seemed like I could use it to create a digital garden that
resembles Andy Matuschak's Notes
. Transcluding pop-ups
is super cool, and Roam doesn't have that feature. I found it quite simple
to implement in Tidlywiki once I got the hang of things. For me,
personally, the learning curve to use Tiddlywiki was much higher than Roam.
For example, I didn't need to learn how to host a website with Roam so I
could save my work. As far as using Tiddlywiki, an empty Tiddler looks like
just like a blog post. Tiddlywiki seems like a really nifty way to host
your own blog. With a vibrant open-source community, a person could figure
out how to modify the styling and turn it into a really cool personal
homepage. You can't do the same with Roam. I'm not going to share my Roam
database with the public. It would be like sharing my Google Drive
journals. Valuable content, but it lacks the look & feel of a blog.

I hope to have expressed that I think Tiddlywiki & Roam have their own
unique space in the knowledge management ecosystem. One key point is that
Roam, unlike Tiddlywiki, is a for-profit company that has already found
monetization. They also now have investors to appease. Who knows what
direction this may take them in. Roam's future is far from certain. Some
questions that come to mind are, 1) will they be able to continue
attracting new users? maybe, but they probably need to make Roam more user
friendly; 2) will they continue to engage their current users? maybe, but
they'll need to push out exciting new features to justify the subscription
cost. Tiddlywiki's strength lies in its open source nature. When I think of
Tiddlywiki, I think of platforms like Roku & Android that enable any dev to
build on them and as a result these platforms have lots of apps and lots of
users. The potential is there for both apps, and there is plenty of
potential market share to go around. Most people don't use Roam or Evernote
or TiddlyWiki, but most people are overwhelmed with information and would
get a lot of benefit from using a knowledge management product that is
useful, innovative, and easy to use. ✌️

[tw5] How to bold plain text

I'm copying text over from a text editor and am trying to minimize

option to bold text. Is it possible? If no, what is a good way to copy
large amounts of text from a text editor? Thanks :)

[tw5] food for thought: "how the blog broke the web"

2020-10-22 Thread Rika Sukenik
hey all, I came across this article called "how the blog broke the web.
https://stackingthebricks.com/how-blogs-broke-the-web/

I found it to be a fascinating expose of how the web became boring once
services like Livejournal and Blogger made it easy for people to create
journals, which in turn stifled creativity by templatizing journal entries.
It got my gears turning to one, Wordpress; and two, today's trend of 'no
code' webpages. Are we stifling creativity by making it *too *easy to use
the Web? Are we doomed to live in a world of Tic Toc videos? And lastly, it
got me thinking about my tiddlywiki and the customization options available
that I haven't spent much time exploring yet :)

it! By the way, Shiraz is awesome. For reference, here is a link to find it

[tw5] How to overflow text on contents tab

2021-03-24 Thread Rika Sukenik
Hi everyone,

On the sidebar's 'Open' tab, text overflows nicely to the next line, but on
the Contents tab, text extends past the screen. I think I need to add the
overflow property to class tc-sidebar-tabs-main or tc-tab-set. I'm using
the Shiraz plugin for styles. tried making changes to the Shiraz plugin
styles tiddler, but it didn't work. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Re: [tw5] Re: CSS help

2021-04-01 Thread Rika Sukenik
Joshua and Mat, thanks for your feedback! I'm not a developer, just a
tinkerer. Public sidebar was the first plugin I found that allowed me to
hide page controls and other settings that just confused people who read my
tiddlywiki. It's strange for someone to think (even though not actually
do!) that they can make edits to my website. Mat, thanks for putting the
plugin out there!

I have noticed that it's hard to target specific elements. I'll think some
more about Joshua's feedback.

Joshua - if you have time to respond to Mat, that would be super helpful.
Like I said, I'm not a developer, so getting some more guidance on how best
to style the Public menu bar will be immensely helpful and save me a lot of
time!

Best,
Rika Sukenik

[tw5] CSS help

2021-03-31 Thread Rika Sukenik
I'm using the Public Sidebar plugin (http://publicsidebar.tiddlyspot.com/)
which is fantastic, but I can't get the margins right.

Can someone please so kindly take a look at my website and help with the
margins? I'd also like to fix the issue with text expanding past the
screen. Much appreciated!!

Here's the code I currently have:
<$set name="loc" value=<>>
<$list filter="[]+[prefix[www.rikasukenik.com]]">

.tc-sidebar-scrollable{visibility:visible;}
.tc-page-controls {display:none;}
.tc-sidebar-lists{visibility:hidden; display:inline; height: 100px;}
.tc-search{visibility:visible;}
.tc-search-results{visibility:visible;}
.public {visibility:visible;}

I'm really excited to have found the Kookma Plugin for styling. There are
so many options for prettifying
Tiddlywiki! https://kookma.github.io/TW-PluginLibrary/

I noticed when I installed the plugin (and other plugins in the past) that
the most recent Tiddler disappears. I have backups so I can find the
content (if I notice a missing Tiddler), but, of course, I won't always
notice missing Tiddlers. Any advice?! I'm thinking there's something around
using Tddly Desktop to work with multiple wikis simultaneously...?

Wonderful, thank you. The plugin saq provides works with Streams. It
doesn't look like he's updated it from the test version, so I sent him a

I checked out Code Mirror, but it's a bit too much for me right now.
Do you know how to bulk remove all plugin content tiddlers? I disabled the
CodeMirror plugin, but it would be nice to also remove all of the plugin's

Re: [tw5] Help with Comptext Plugin

2021-04-14 Thread Rika Sukenik
I just deleted the plugin and re-imported it. I learned some new
information!
Autocomplete works on the page, but not on individual blocks (I'm using the
Streams plugin). It should work on individual blocks too because it works
in this Tiddlywiki, that uses both Streams and the Comptext plugin.
Any ideas on where to go from here?

Best,
Rika Sukenik

[tw5] Help with Comptext Plugin

2021-04-09 Thread Rika Sukenik
I know that Comptext is a
popular plugin, so I'm hoping someone can help me troubleshoot. I added the
plugin to my wiki and also changed the text editor to comptext, but
completion mode doesn't work. Here's the kicker: completion mode works, but
only in the tiddlers that came with the plugin e.g,
$:/plugins/snowgoon88/edit-comptext and
$:/plugins/snowgoon88/edit-comptext/usage
Thank you!

[tw5] Github Save + TiddlyDesktop Save

2021-04-21 Thread Rika Sukenik
I have Github save setup, but the files are not being saved or backed up in
Tiddly Desktop. How can I save to both Github & locally?
One more question: In Github, when I view the history of index.html, only
changes and additions are displayed. How can I view the entire latest
changed index.html file?
Thanks!

toolbar items are hidden. Are you using a plugin?
