I have my console printing out lots of Exception messages.
Can I print them in a file instead of console?
For Tomcat 3.x, this involves configurating the tc_log to a file.
But for Catalina, how to achieve this?
I have tried to add a Logger of
pipe /rpm/servlet/rpm.Login
Context log: path=/rpm Broken pipe /rpm/servlet/rpm.Login
in my tomcat.log file when I try to access my login servlet.
This only happens occasionally and makes tomcat hang.
I've read the archives and none of the proposed solutions seem to apply

edit server.xml and read the Logging paragraph.
It will tell you how to do it.

This file is under the logs only if there are problems during start. If this file does

When I start tomcat on Win2k, it says, Check logs/tomcat.log for error
messages.
There is no tomcat.log file anywhere on the server, and the only files in
logs/ are: jasper.log, mod_jk.log, and servlet.log.
Where are tomcat error messages being logged?
Thanks for any help you can provide

Even though the message says to check tomcat.log, the logging messages will display in
the dos window unless you change conf/server.xml. Read the comments in conf/server.xml
for more info.

Dear Tomcat users,
I noticed in the tomcat.log (verbosityLevel = "INFORMATION") when a

Hi,
The
message "check for error messages" does not mean that there are errors. It is
just an informative
message.

Panos,
It has been my experience that you have to turn it on manually. In
server.xml make sure that it is listed for tc_log like the following:
Logger name="tc_log"
path="logs/tomcat.log"
verbosityLevel = "INFORMATION"
/
Dua
I was having this problem as well. I fixed it by forcing the tomcat to be logged
as in
Logger
name="tc.log"
path="logs/tomcat.log"
verbositylevel="INFORMATION"
/
Note the 'path' attribute.
Seems to work for now :-)

Thank you everybody for helping me people. I have added the path=logs/tomcat.log in my server.xml file and all the messages go into tomcat.log file instead of the screen.
Thanks again.
