[Touch-packages] [Bug 1464998] [NEW] A2DP headet sink doesn't appear

2015-06-14 Thread Mary Sherman
Public bug reported:

I have a Sennheiser MM450-X headset, which successfully connects to my
laptop (after installing pulseaudio-module-bluetooth).

After connecting though, the output sink doesn't appear.

The workaround is to add Disable=Socket in /etc/bluetooth/audio.conf

This Bug still persists in 15.04 and I'm affected with this. Did the
steps mentioned in the header. It helped but but cryptswap asks me for a
password on startup.

Bug description:
  SUMMARY
  ===
During installation with encrypt my home folder mode, a broken
/etc/crypttab gets created which defines a non-existing swap device (usually
cryptswap1) with a UUID. This will also be put into /etc/fstab. As after
installation the UUID does not exist, such systems don't have any actual swap.

  UPGRADE FIX
  ===
An upgrade to Ubuntu 15.04 (vivid) will detect and comment out these broken
swap devices from /etc/fstab and /etc/crypttab. If you actually want to use
those, do these steps:

   - Find the swap device that was meant to be used in sudo fdisk -l (it
should say Linux swap in the last column), remember the device name
(something like /dev/sda5)
   - Find the UUID in /etc/crypttab (the long alphanumeric ID after UUID=)
   - Run sudo mkswap -U 1234... /dev/sda5, replacing 1234 with the above
UUID, and /dev/sda5 with the device name from step 1.
   - Edit /etc/crypttab to append ,offset=1024 in the fourth (last) column of
the cryptswap1 line; ensure that there is *no space* between the
cipher=aes-cbc-essiv:sha256 and the appended option. If there is a leading
# in the file, remove that too.
   - If there is a leading # in /etc/fstab in the line starting with
/dev/mapper/cryptswap1 line, remove that.
   - Run sudo update-initramfs -u.

  ORIGINAL REPORT
  ===

Clean install of 12.04 and with encrypted home for my user. Did all
updates and now the bootup hangs waiting for swap to become available
and it never seems to ever finish. The 200GB SSD below is my boot
  drive and root filesystem.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 990982] Re: [Multiarch] libfreetype6-dev:i386 dependencies issue

2015-06-14 Thread kenorb
How does this fix the problem?

Installing libfreetype6-dev:i386 on Debian Wheezy still trying to
remove: cpp g++ g++-multilib gcc , etc. and having libfreetype6-dev is
still not enough to compile 32-bit wine.

Comment #19 doesn't mention anything about fix in libfreetype.

Is there any workaround to install 32-bit FreeType 2 development files?
Or how to use the fix?

  It's a fresh 12.04 install from a mini 30MB iso dd'ed to a USB flash drive.
  So it's clean and up-to-date.

  I have libfreetype6 and libfreetype6-dev installed.
To compile wine from source (32 and 64 bit version), I need both 32 and 64
bit development packages of several libraries.

For gcc, I had to install gcc-multilib instead of gcc:i386 (gcc and gcc:i386
seem to be incompatible).
But there is no freetype6-multilib package hence my bug report.

I think the following console output will tell you more things than

Need to get 6,832 kB of archives.
After this operation, 17.2 MB of additional disk space will be used.

I'm sure you understand removing build-essential and gcc is not really
  something I want to do.

Hopefully, wine provides a configure switch (--without-freetype) to
  workaround the issue.

If you need more details, just let me know.

Title:
libarchive extracts zip as corrupt files but no warning or error

Status in libarchive package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The attached zip file is produced by AirDroid and can be extracted
successfully by unzip 6.00, ASUS File Manager for Android, and Windows
  8.1.

However libarchive13 version 3.1.2-7ubuntu2.1, in Linux Mint KDE 17.1
amd64, while extracts the files without any warning or error, results
in corrupt files. These are all JPG files which cannot be viewed when
  extracted by Ark.

  Tested using both:

  * Ark 2.19 (4:4.14.2-0ubuntu1~ubuntu14.04~ppa1)
  * bsdcpio 3.1.2-7ubuntu2.1

  Reproducible: Always

  Steps to Reproduce:
  1. Extract

  Actual Results:
  Corrupt JPGs

  Expected Results:
  Proper JPGs

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1254085] Re: ssh fails to connect to VPN host - hangs at 'expecting SSH2_MSG_KEX_ECDH_REPLY'

2015-06-14 Thread pedroleouf
I had the same issue. No VPN tho, client is `OpenSSH_6.6.1p1 Ubuntu-
2ubuntu2, OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014` and server is `OpenSSH_6.6.1p1
Ubuntu-2ubuntu2, OpenSSL 1.0.1f 6 Jan 2014` (yes, same). Of course scp
or rsync and anything using ssh connection using openssh was broken as
well.

Changing the MTU of my connection to 1200 fixed the issue, but yeah,
it's a workaround...

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1465003] [NEW] U1db.Document silently ignores key assignment

2015-06-14 Thread Sam Bull
Public bug reported:

document.contents[foo] = bar has no effect.

This results in needing to write the above code as:
  var temp = document.contents
  temp[foo] = bar
  document.contents = temp

This is annoying and ugly code everytime I want to update a single
value.

Proposed solution:
  Allow saving keys directly.

If for some reason this is absolutely not possible, atleast throw an
error or display a warning when an assignment is attempted, as it is
clearly not the desired behaviour that the above line of code does
absolutely nothing.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1385813] Re: find -size -Nk seems to be off by 1

2015-06-14 Thread Andreas Metzler
The -size -nX check works like this:

How many units sized one X each is the file using,
a) less than n
or
b) at least n

Therefore -size -1M or -size -1k or -size -1c all match only empty
files.

A 1025 byte sized file uses two 1K-units (it has to, there is only space
for 1024 bytes in a single 1K unit) and will therefore not match -size
-2k.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1465002] [NEW] Network manager ignores the Automatic unlock for SIM cards

2015-06-14 Thread Mary Sherman
Public bug reported:

I have a SIM card for the mobile broadband (the broadband card is built
in my laptop); the network manager doesn't store the unlock code, even
if I specified Automatic unlock option, so that I have to type the
code every time I log in, but also every time the system wakes up from
standby.

In addition to this, the unlock appears in spite of Enable Mobile
Broadband being disabled in the NM applet.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1464950] Re: output flushing error causing ugly output for autoremove

2015-06-14 Thread David Kalnischkies
Yeah, relatively recent in its very visible form, but a relatively old problem
in its cause.
Fixed in upstream git for a while, but thanks to diverting branches
(abi-breakfree unstable and abi-breaking experimental) it hasn't reached a
(non-experimental) release yet:
http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/apt/apt.git/commit/?id=2a884c612b10b27f4be2cc6dd689bfe448d9361a

It is written as an abi break, but could be rewritten to not require one
with some care (at least binary compatible, technically source
compatibility breaks and theoretically its still a behavior change). I
just decided against it at the time it was clear we would have to keep
the diversion a little longer than originally planed and backported just
the absolutely needed stuff. We could do it now, but I guess the time
is better spent in stopping to semi-maintain two branches. Hence setting
fix commited in anticipation of fix released soon [all while
realizing that I might very well be the biggest blocker in this process
with my perfectionism]

[Touch-packages] [Bug 990982] Re: [Multiarch] libfreetype6-dev:i386 dependencies issue

The same problem happening when installing any of these:

it's trying to remove my 64-bit compiler.

Do you want to continue [Y/n]? ^C

I'm sure you understand removing build-essential and gcc is not really
  something I want to do.

Hopefully, wine provides a configure switch (--without-freetype) to
  workaround the issue.

If you need more details, just let me know.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1364452] Re: People's own phone number isn't where they expect to find it

2015-06-14 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
** Description changed:

Twenty people were given an Ubuntu phone and asked to find their own
phone number. (10 were iPhone users, 8 Android, 1 Windows Phone, and 1
  feature phone user.)

  The first place they looked:
  - 9 in the Contacts app
  - 5 in System Settings Phone screen
  - 3 in System Settings About screen
  - 2 in the Dialer app contacts screen
  - 1 in System Settings Cellular screen.

So, our current placement of the phone number in the About screen (bug
  1221908) is suboptimal.

- Instead it should be in the Contacts app, and possibly in the Phone
- screen.
-
+ Instead it should be in the Contacts app, and possibly in the Phone screen.
Where the phone is dual SIM, both phone numbers should be shown.

- This first needs design work.
+ Only once that is done, it should be removed from the About screen.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1464994] [NEW] Low audio volume on Thinkpad Helix

2015-06-14 Thread Mary Sherman
Public bug reported:

I have a Thinkpad Helix, which I dual boot with Windows 8.x and Ubuntu.

The audio volume in Ubuntu is low, compared to Windows, even when the
device output is set on 100%.

For example, when I watch something, on VLC, I can increase both the VLC
volume and the device output to more than 100%, say 130% each; in this
case, I reach a volume comparable to Windows, but in this case is
clipped.

Bug description:
My laptop (Aspire VN7-591G) comes with an nVidia graphic card that is
not supported by default in Ubuntu Trusty (14.04.2, amd64).

I installed the Xorg-edgers PPA to be able to install nvidia-340 which
contains the proper drivers for my card (and allow me to switch
between the Intel and the nVidia GPU).

Later, I realized there is a dependency issue with package libgbm1:

  sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

Using aptitude to have more information, I get this:

libgbm1 will not be upgraded to version

following dependencies:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1316634] Re: Does not automatically reconnect to hidden WiFi network

2015-06-14 Thread Michael Mess
Unfortuately I have to admit that my patch did not really solve th
issue.

While yesterday the problem did not reappear, today I was experiencing
the problem again.

Before I was thinking, that the problem appeared everytime when the
network was connected before and thus when not manually connecting on
every second boot, but this might not be true, because yesterday I
thought the issue was fixed, because the issue didn't appear after a
reboot even when the network was connected before.

I was thinking, there was something like a state that survives a reboot and
could be cleared with the patched script.
It might be that the patched script somehow changes some probabilities, but the
issue is definitely not fixed.

Title:
Does not automatically reconnect to hidden WiFi network

Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Running Lubuntu 14.04 32-bit on a Lenovo 3000 C200 laptop with an
integrated Broadcom network adapter, I installed
firmware-b43-installer and then successfully connected to my hidden
  (SSID not broadcast) WiFi net.

But I see that it will not automatically reconnect. I don't have to
re-enter the password, but I do have to click the nm-applet indicator,
choose 'Connect to Hidden Wi-Fi Network' and then choose my already-
defined connection, which indeed has been saved but not used to
  automatically reconnect.

If I edit the connection, I see that on the General tab it is already
set to 'Automatically connect to this network when it is available.'

The only way I can get automatic reconnection is to enable SSID
  Broadcast.

And a similar effect: If I am connected to the network while SSID
Broadcast is in effect and then disable SSID Broadcast, network-
  manager immediately loses the connection.

Someone suggested that network-manager would find the hidden network
if I just waited, but after waiting 15 minutes it had still not
  connected.

Dual-booting this same laptop with Windows Vista, I see that Windows
knows how to automatically reconnect to the hidden net.

  I see that https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-
manager/+bug/295796 describes similar behavior, but that was reported
back in 2008 and I'm imagining that there should be a separate report
  for the new release.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1316634] Re: Does not automatically reconnect to hidden WiFi network

2015-06-14 Thread Michael Mess
When the issue occurs, the network manager tells me that there are
wireless networks available, but it does not connect automatically to
the hidden network.

Probably there is some state that is stored in NetworkManager:
* When you have manually disconnected from a wireless network, you probably
don't want to reconnect automatically.
* When you was connected to a wireless network, you probably want to reconnect
to that network.
* When you have manually chosen a specific network, you might want to connect
only to that network

There should be something like on mobile phones where you can choose one
network manually or let the phone choose the network automatically.

Maybe some of such state information survives a reboot.

If I edit the connection, I see that on the General tab it is already

The only way I can get automatic reconnection is to enable SSID
  Broadcast.

And a similar effect: If I am connected to the network while SSID
Broadcast is in effect and then disable SSID Broadcast, network-
  manager immediately loses the connection.

Someone suggested that network-manager would find the hidden network
if I just waited, but after waiting 15 minutes it had still not
  connected.

Dual-booting this same laptop with Windows Vista, I see that Windows
knows how to automatically reconnect to the hidden net.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1455956] Re: package udev 219-7ubuntu5 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-06-14 Thread Ivo Anjo
I had previously created an input group as per this tutorial:
http://ptichy.blogspot.pt/2014/08/configure-evrouter-on-ubuntu-1404.html?showComment=1434306399108#c1263726685009019900

But I argue that breaking the user's system because of a group name that
previously was open for anyone to create (even an input user) is
scary.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1344883] Re: Picker: selectedIndex changes incorrectly when removing model entries

2015-06-14 Thread Sam Bull
I've now switched to using PageHeadSections for this, and am
experiencing much the same issue. If I insert something before the
current index I need to add 1 to the selected index to compensate, and
the reverse for removal.

** Summary changed:

- Picker: selectedIndex changes incorrectly when removing model entries
+ PageHeadSections/Picker: selectedIndex changes incorrectly when
inserting/removing model entries

Title:
  PageHeadSections/Picker: selectedIndex changes incorrectly when
  inserting/removing model entries

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
I've attached a minimal program to demonstrate the problem.

The Model contains 20 items, and the selectedIndex is at 18.
Clicking the button below will remove the item at index 10.
  Expected behaviour:
Picker keeps number 18 selected.
  Actual behaviour:
Picker jumps to number 9, the index before the one just deleted.

Observe that when changing the button code to remove index 3 instead
of 10, the picker works correctly, and remains at item 18.

The behaviour only breaks on some index removals.

  inserts appear to behave correctly.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 987060] Re: massive memory leak in unity-panel-service and hud-service when invoking the hud on Firefox profiles with large amounts of bookmarks LTS 12.04 14.04

2015-06-14 Thread Maximilian Wende
Hi guys.

This bug affects my laptop as well, hud-service took a whole 2.2 GiB and
1 full core of cpu power, although i already removed many bookmarks in
Firefox (or are 30-40 still too much ...).

I'll look if i find something using valgrind, it's time to get this bug
fixed, it is already 3 years old.

I don't know why Ubuntu needs a web and bookmark search in its menu
whatsoever ... The only thing I (and possibly 99.998427631 % of other
people) use the search for is to start a program that I don't have in my
left bar.

Don't do it if you cannot do it right!

Greetings!

unity-panel-service and hud-service quickly racks up memory and CPU
usage until I kill it when invoking the HUD on Firefox. It's taking
anywhere from a few minutes to half an hour, but it sometimes makes
  the system completely unusable.

  1. run Firefox 12.0 in the foreground
  2. hit Alt to bring up HUD
  3. type any text
  4. select one proposal from HUD
  5. wait for unity-panel-service and hud-service to fill up the remaining RAM
and swap space.

This is due to a high number of bookmarks in a user profile
  (hundreds).

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1465033] [NEW] upower reports wrong battery info

2015-06-14 Thread Nikke
Public bug reported:

Since some time (while running 14.10) I get strange estimates of remaining
battery time, and the laptop dies with about 50-60% remaining.
I think the problem is related to the huge difference between energy-full and
enegry-full-design (see attached upower.dump). The same numbers are reported by
acpi -V.

The battery is a 55Wh (7300mAh) in a Samsung Ativ9 940X3G laptop
(productID: AA-PLVN4AR).

I've:
- Tried booting a live-usb with an old ubunut (14.04) with the same result
- Run the Smart battery calibration from BIOS with no difference

Thanks,
Niklas

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1465048] [NEW] PageHeadSections does not scroll

2015-06-14 Thread Sam Bull
Public bug reported:

If there are too many parts in PageHeadSections, there is no way to
select sections off the screen. This could be solved by allowing the
sections to be scrolled horizontally, similarly to how the original
Header worked in the early toolkit versions.

Example of where this is a problem:
I use the PageHeadSections to allow the user to select between languages for
translation. The available languages here are set by the user in the settings.
So, in most cases only 2-5 languages will be listed, but a user could decide to
use all ~150 languages if they wanted to.

2015-06-14 Thread Ivo Anjo
This broke my upgrade from 14.10 to 15.04 :(

I don't know what created the input group, but couldn't this post-
install script have a fallback of some kind? I was able to fix it after
finding this report, but a normal user would end up with a broken system
and a very bad day.

Please consider reopening!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 219057] Re: Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi

2015-06-14 Thread The_Legacy
Hi,
Thanks for your solution Julian Alarcon (alarconj), it worked for me.
I had the issue on all of my computers and thanks to you have been able to fix
this.

Well done

Title:
Bluetooth does not coexist with WiFi

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
On my system bluetooth and wifi are unusable together. I have a built-
in CSR-based bluetooth module in my laptop, and an Atheros wifi. Wifi
transfers slow to a halt whenever there is BT traffic.

For example, if I play a music file from another machine through the
network using a BT headset, only the first few seconds of the file
will play until the player runs out of buffered data. No further data
is downloaded. Web pages also do not download, and I even lose
connection to AP from time to time.

At the same time, it looks like AFH is trying to work. If I monitor
the value returned by 'hcitool afh', it changes. But this seems to
have little effect on connection quality.

Is this a problem with my hardware, or the AFH implementation? Is
there a way to force bluetooth to not use the channels in use by WiFi?

On my XPS 13, my trackpad stopped working after I installed xserver-

Thanks! :)

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale

after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to

If you compare this menu with the Android equivalent, on Android the
buttons actually touch _but_ they are atleast as tall as a finger is
wide. This seems like a good policy wrt height.

We don't appear to be space-constrained here so I'd suggest making the
buttoms more spaced out and taller.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1344883] Re: PageHeadSections/Picker: selectedIndex changes incorrectly when inserting/removing model entries

2015-06-14 Thread Zsombor Egri
Your sample code doesn't remove items from the model, but inserts.

The behaviour you experience is due to both components using ListView
(PathView or GridView behaves the same). When you alter the model, the
currentIndex won't necessarily point to the same item was pointing
anymore. Removing an element from the ListView will cause currentIndex
to change as well. This bug is more related to ListView than to Picker
itself.

Try the same with a ListView, and I'm sure you'll experience the same.

Bug description:
Entering characters via pinyin can result in a lot of potential
candidates on the word ribbon, sometimes requiring users to scroll the
word ribbon a lot before they find the character they require.

There are two areas that need investigating here:

  1) Can we order the pinyin predictions in such a way as to make
commonly used characters more easily accessible

  2) Can we modify the UI to allow the word ribbon to be expanded to
show all characters at once (e.g. a button on the far right of the
word ribbon that causes the word ribbon to display characters over the
entire keyboard area until a character is selected).

OK, so we've narrowed the problem down to Qt when used in combination

The bug is not in Unity8 or Mir.

I'm not sure which Qt packages to assign this bug to though.

2015-06-14 Thread Stéphane Graber
Hello Bin, or anyone else affected,

Accepted sysvinit into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/sysvinit/2.88dsf-
41ubuntu6.2 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1390625] Re: mouse cursor gets corrupted

2015-06-14 Thread Fustino Aguilar
My problem:
I have a laptop with Intel graphics.
The cursor only has problems when I drag icons size LARGE and larger to
Phanteon-files with icon-view and slingshot with large icon size. (I have
not installed x-server)

My solution:
I used dconf-editor to adjust the default sizes.

org pantheon desktop slingshot default-zoom-level: Normal

org pantheon files icon-view default-zoom-level: Normal

My cursor with normal icon-size
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6CMxtVUCKK0

The funny thing is that the cursor goes crazy only when the icons are
large.

A summary:

icon-size (smallest, smaller, small, normal, largest) - OK
icon-size (large, larger) - FAIL

The cursor hates the great icons.
A large icon is not elementary :-)

Enjoy your life

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 14.10, the mouse cursor graphic gets corrupted under certain
occasions. It then looks flipped, sheared or shows fragments of a
  previous cursor.

  * when switching the cursor them forth and back in Gnome Tweak Tool
  * when dragdropping a document icon

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale
on a high-dpi display (this was working right in 14.04). For example
after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to
start a dragdrop, the cursor appears 1/4 the expected size.

Attached is a photo of a corrupted cursor (whereas a screenshot with
  Gimp showed the uncorrupted cursor).
