[Touch-packages] [Bug 1575128] Re: unity dialogues split between 2 monitors
Ok I'm targeting xorg and gtk/gdk too. I'm not at home right now and I cannot test it on a double monitor setup. I'll work on it next week. Thank you. ** Also affects: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Also affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575128 Title: unity dialogues split between 2 monitors Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu: New Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since upgrading from Ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04, Unity is now shown across both my monitors in a hard to use manner: unity dialogues, such as the log-out and shutdown popups, are displayed centered between both monitors, so the left half is on one monitor, and the right half on another. Also, the unity top panel indicators and clock used to be on both monitors, but are now only on the right monitor. More info since it is likely relevant: I have a Dell laptop with an NVidia Prime GPU and Intel built-in GPU. This laptop has always been trouble configuring for dual monitors. The nvidia-settings controls only shows one monitor, though it is supposed to show two. I have never been able to get a working xorg.conf for the two monitors, despited 2 days of trying (and I am a software developer well versed in reading docs). The instructions in the nvidia docs simply don't work as stated for this hardware (Dell XPS 17 L702X). Purging all graphics settings doesn't help. Upgrading to a newer nvidia driver didn't help (I've tried the latest official nvidia package as well as one newer). As a result, I've been using an xrandr command and compiz display settings since Ubuntu 15.10. This worked perfectly in 15.10. But, as stated, the unity top panel and dialogues are not working properly in 16.04. I tried Nvidia 361.42 and 364.19 from the PPA at http://ppa.launchpad.net/graphics-drivers/ppa/ubuntu. The xrandr command in use is: xrandr --fb 3520x1080 --output HDMI-0 --preferred --primary --mode 1920x1080 --pos 0x0 --panning 3520x1080+0+0/3520x1080+0+0/0/0/-3520/0 --output LVDS-1 --mode 1600x900 --pos 1920x180 --panning 0x0 (I know the fb sets up a wide virtual screen, but as stated, in 15.10, that worked perfectly for unity) In compiz display settings I have the following "Outputs" set: 1920x1080+0+0 1600x900+1920+180 It would appear in 16.04, Unity ignores the compiz outputs whereas in 15.10 it does not. But that's just a guess. Sorry I cannot get a screenshot of the dialogues. They seem to block Ubuntu's screenshot program due to their modal nature. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1381050] Re: "Import Key File" fails when the path of the file has special characters
** Branch unlinked: lp:software-properties -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to software-properties in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1381050 Title: "Import Key File" fails when the path of the file has special characters Status in software-properties package in Ubuntu: In Progress Status in software-properties source package in Trusty: In Progress Bug description: [Impact] Importing a key that is in a path that contains special characters (like "/home/$USER/Transferências") fails silently. [Test Case] 1. Download a PGP key for a Debian repository (for example, the VideoLAN team's key: download.videolan.org/pub/debian/videolan-apt.asc) 2. Move the key file to a folder that contains special characters, or rename the file to contain them (example: VídeoLAN.asc). 3. Open "Software & Updates" from the Dash, then select the Authentication tab. 4. Press the "Import Key File..." button and then choose the key file. Admin authentication should then be requested, so authenticate yourself. If the bug is fixed: the key should now appear in the list of keys. If not: the key was not added. [Regression Potential] If the fix is not correct, I suppose it could potentially break the "import key" feature even more, so it wouldn't work even in "normal" paths. [Original Report] The "Import Key File..." button in the "Authentication" tab fails silently when the path of the selected key file includes special characters. I'm using Ubuntu in Portuguese, so the "/home/$USER/Downloads" folder is named "/home/$USER/Transferências" here. Adding a key from that folder fails, but adding a key from "/home/$USER" (no special characters) succeeds. The problem is that, in softwareproperties/gtk/SoftwarePropertiesGtk.py in method SoftwarePropertiesGtk.add_key_clicked() at around line 952: if res == Gtk.ResponseType.ACCEPT: try: if not self.backend.AddKey(chooser.get_filename()): error(self.window_main, _("Error importing selected file"), _("The selected file may not be a GPG key file " "or it might be corrupt.")) except dbus.DBusException as e: if e._dbus_error_name == 'com.ubuntu.SoftwareProperties.PermissionDeniedByPolicy': logging.error("Authentication canceled, changes have not been saved") "self.backend.AddKey(chooser.get_filename())" throws a "org.freedesktop.DBus.Python.UnicodeEncodeError" exception for paths with special characters. This is probably a side effect of switching from Python 2 to 3 (and 'bytes' now being used in network communications where 'str' was previously used). Another issue is that the error isn't reported to the user, and it should be. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1575128] Re: unity dialogues split between 2 monitors
seems like it's handled as a big screen rather than 2, do you get the issue if you configure the screen using the desktop settings? ** Changed in: gtk+3.0 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to gtk+3.0 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575128 Title: unity dialogues split between 2 monitors Status in gtk+3.0 package in Ubuntu: New Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Since upgrading from Ubuntu 15.10 to 16.04, Unity is now shown across both my monitors in a hard to use manner: unity dialogues, such as the log-out and shutdown popups, are displayed centered between both monitors, so the left half is on one monitor, and the right half on another. I took a look at the /usr/lib/update-notifier/update-motd-fsck-at-reboot and for /dev/sda10, I had something like this : Mount count 28 Maximum mount count 30 Check interval15552000 Next check after Tue Jan 12 23:11:26 2016 The message was not displayed anymore after 2 reboot, in order to reach Mount count to 30, and greater or equals to Maximum mount count. It seems that the file check was not until the Mount count >= Maximum mount count More over, on the platform, I have two partitions with following "name" : /dev/sda1 /dev/sda10 When the first one is verified by the script, the command "mount | grep "^$part" | cut -d ' ' -f 3" does not give te right result. mount | grep "^/dev/sda10" | cut -d ' ' -f 3 give result : / But mount | grep "^/dev/sda1" | cut -d ' ' -f 3 / /usr May be not a big deal, because, the mount point is only used to find value in the file /etc/fstab, in order to specialize the message, but many be there is an error anywhere else. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1512219] Re: apt appears to be confused when installing a backport that version depends on other backports
I don't think apt resolving is fixed yet in trusty apt=1.0.1ubuntu2.13 (27.4.2016) To get lxd installed, this is what I used: apt-get install lxd/trusty-backports lxc/trusty-backports liblxc1/trusty-backports python3-lxc/trusty-backports -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512219 Title: apt appears to be confused when installing a backport that version depends on other backports Status in apt package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: This was seen in trusty where backports are pretty widely used. We backported the whole lxc+lxd stack (golang, libseccomp, cgmanager, lxcfs, lxc, lxd) with some added version dependencies everywhere it made sense so that when pulling lxd, everything would be installed with the right version. The assumption was that since lxd didn't exist in 14.04 and that as backports are enabled there by default, a simple "apt-get install lxd" would work. That's not the case, it fails with: root@blah:~# apt-get install lxd Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: lxd : Depends: lxc (>= 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~) but 1.0.7-0ubuntu0.9 is to be installed Recommends: lxd-client but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Showing more resolver details show: Broken lxd:amd64 Depends on lxc [ amd64 ] < none -> 1.0.7-0ubuntu0.9 | 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~ubuntu14.04.1 > ( admin ) (>= 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~) Considering lxc:amd64 0 as a solution to lxd:amd64 Re-Instated liblxc1:amd64 Re-Instated python3-lxc:amd64 Re-Instated lxc:amd64 I then tried installing with "apt-get install lxd/trusty-backports" which got me roughly the same thing: root@blah:~# apt-get install lxd/trusty-backports Reading package lists... Done Building dependency tree Reading state information... Done Selected version '0.21-0ubuntu3~ubuntu14.04.1' (Ubuntu:14.04/trusty-backports [amd64]) for 'lxd' Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable distribution that some required packages have not yet been created or been moved out of Incoming. The following information may help to resolve the situation: The following packages have unmet dependencies: lxd : Depends: lxc (>= 1.1.4-0ubuntu1.1~) but it is not going to be installed E: Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. So in the end, I had to use "apt-get -t trusty-backports install lxd" which did succeed in pulling everything from backports. This seems like an apt bug as apt is clever enough to go pick things from backports when they're available nowhere else, one would expect that it would do the same when picking the dependencies of such a backport when they are in the same pocket as the backport, instead of failing to resolve the dependencies. It'd be great if people could use a straight apt-get install for non- existing packages or the /trusty-backports packages to pull specific packages from backports during install, instead of having to rely on a separate apt-get run with -t trusty-backports specified. Also it looks like our existing backports documentation points users to the /trusty-backports syntax which will not work for any reasonably complex backport which involves more than one package. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1011007] Re: blkid identifies ext4 rootfs as silicon_medley_raid_member, breaks boot
The upstream Redhat bug is closed as NOTABUG, but the situation was not discussed there properly. There was an assumption made that the partition was part of a software raid array at some point. This was not the case for me (brand new disk when installed, only ever in one layout), however it was an LVM partition, so resizing it slightly fixed the problem. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1535297] Re: Unity8 crashes on logout with "Error in `unity8': double free or corruption" called from libprotobuf.so.9, called from libprotobuf-lite.so.9
I suspect the right solution is to fix the approach taken in Mesa to detecting Mir: All the above modules should be loaded with RTLD_LOCAL. As far as I can tell they are so they shouldn't interact. However, Mir's mesa.so.X client platform module reloads itself with RTLD_GLOBAL so that Mesa can find a Mir entry point. (Yes, this is an ugly hack.) [Touch-packages] [Bug 1575191] Re: plus.google.com re-layouts horizontally when the top bar shows/hides
There's basically nothing we can do about this in Oxide - as Olivier has pointed out, this is a website bug and is specific to the desktop version of Google Plus. Oxide correctly changes the viewport height after the location bar changes position, otherwise elements fixed to the bottom of the viewport would be off the screen when the location bar is shown. The AppArmor profiles, by default, are set to "complain" mode by way of "flag=(complain)" directives written into the profiles themselves. If I want these profiles to be enforced, then I have to edit each one and manually delete the directives (or use the aa-enforce utility to perform the same edits for me). This then results in modified config files, which will give me grief if and when the profiles are updated. I can accept the inconvenience of merging if I've made significant changes. But given that all I'm doing is switching from "complain" to "enforce", and that there is already a good mechanism for specifying this outside of the profiles themselves (removing symlinks from the "disable" or "force-complain" subdirs), this significantly impairs the usability of a security feature that sorely needs wider adoption. [tl;dr] Please remove all "complain" flags from the profiles, and replace them with corresponding symlinks in the "force-complain" subdirectory. ** Tags added: amd64 trusty -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lightdm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318778 Title: lightdm doesn't let pam_mkhomedir execute Status in Light Display Manager: New Status in lightdm package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Affects: 14.04 LTS lightdm 1.10.0-0ubuntu3 When graphically logging in with a new user without a home directory, lightdm/xdg/freedesktop creates a home directory based on settings in /etc/xdg before PAM session configs are processed. This makes pam_mkhomedir completely useless for graphical logins of first-time users. It also creates inconsistencies between graphical and console logins as the console still processes mkhomedir. Thus, two new users would have differing home directories if one initially logged in graphically vs intially logged in via a console. This bug does not exist in 12.04 LTS. How to reproduce: 1. Create a new user, ensuring the user has no home directory. 2. Configure pam with pam_mkhomedir to create a home directory by copying files from some skeleton directory. 3. Login via lightdm with the new user. 4. Verify that none of the files from the skeleton are actually in the new user's home directory. What is expected to happen is that pam_mkhomedir is always processed before any other home directory files are created, enabling administrators to dictate the home directory contents for new users using the traditional method of pam_mkhomedir + /etc/skel. Probably with a switch button that offer the choice between no data or data activated (with the last data activated state (2g only or 2G,3G,4G). Why this ? Because it's the first setting to change to save battery, and probably one of the most used (I asked around me, everyone agreed they would prefer that over Wi-Fi if only one was possible). I think it's stupid to go to the settings app for the most common action (and very frustrating). Of course, this also apply for the battery setting page (that already contain Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth and brightness settings). I asked that on the phone ML, I've been invited to file a wishlist bug there to "help" designers with next iteration of network indicator. So here it is ! [Touch-packages] [Bug 1575191] Re: plus.google.com re-layouts horizontally when the top bar shows/hides
I can understand why google is changing the width based on the viewport height, there is some logic behind it... They want the page to render in a way that prevents posts being vertically cropped too much (which would result in the user only being able to view a small part of the post and having to scroll back and forth to read it or missing the picture or whatever). The way they are doing this is by changing the width of the contech which scales the overall page on most mobile browsers. It looks like the issue is when you scroll down the browser automatically hides the tab and location bar which then changes the viewport size which then triggers the page to rescale. This wont only happen on G+ this will happen on lost of sites. Sites don't expect the viewport size to change unless the browser is actually being resized. I'm not sure what the correct solution is but I would say one potential (but perhaps not very clean solution) would be not to change the viewport size when the tab/location bar is hidden if its a website which requires a vertical scroll bar. Essentially pretend the viewport stays a constant size even though in reality it has got larger. Like I said this is not an ideal solution but chances are if you are on a website with a vertical scroll bar the exact height shouldn't be hugely relevant anyway. The other option is as was mentioned to see how Android deals with it. The location bar in Chrome on Android DOES hide but interestingly enough only under certain circumstances. I noticed when looking at Google results it didn't hide until I first tried to scroll up beyond the limit. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to webbrowser-app in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1575191 Title: plus.google.com re-layouts horizontally when the top bar shows/hides Status in Canonical System Image: Confirmed Status in Oxide: Invalid Status in Ubuntu UX: New Status in webbrowser-app package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Some sites have a menu bar at the top, which appears or disappears depending if you scroll up or down... the presence or absence of this bar causes the browser app to change it's scaling, and this means that scrolling up/down while browsing results in the device continually re- rendering as it re-scales the page... This badly afffects google+ and presumably other google properties... [Touch-packages] [Bug 1575677] [NEW] Progress text even in quiet mode
Public bug reported: Operating System : Debian GNU/Linux 7.9 (wheezy) Package Name : python-apt Package Version : 0.8.8.2 Architecture : amd64 The display of an installation with python-apt is quite different with apt when the quiet option is set. With no calendar entries (i.e. removing .local/share/evolution/xxx/calendar.ics) the process still uses over 30MB (looking at RSS with ps aux --sort -rss ) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/canonical-devices-system-image/+bug/1342123/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages Post to : touch-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~touch-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
