what I did:

pam-auth-update --package

This SRU would try to have the latest upstream point release of 1.2.x
land in Xenial, which is the successor of the current 1.2.2 version,
fixing quite some bugs that's suitable to land in the sable branch.

I can confirm this behavior of 'getent ahosts'. 'getent ahostsv6' also
shows :::207.[...] instead of the ipv6 address in this case.
Nevertheless, the behavior is definitely different for e.g. 'ping6' or
postfix address resolution depending on whether systemd-resolved is
running.

I was again purging old kernels via the Synaptic package manager
manually when I ran into this bug. As others have remarked above, the
root cause of having to purge kernels manually when /boot runs out of
space is pretty bad; an operating system that purports to be, and mostly
is, easy-to-use,
