Bug description:
  To reproduce open a pdf file in evince from pcmanfm or another file
  manager. Then move the mouse to the upper right corner of the window
  along the top bar. Then try to click on the arrow pointing down to
  drop down the menu. The mouse pointer will click but no menu will drop
  down. I can still edit the zoom by clickin in this bar but I cannoy
  select fit page or fit width like I used to be able to in 14.04. I am
  using lxde as my desktop environment with openbox as my window
  manager.

  I am using IP name space virtualization feature in Ubuntu 14.04. The simplest 
script for this is:

  The node has eth0 with 10.4.1.20/16 and connected eth0 to eth1 by

  All had worked fine during updating Ubuntu 14.04 at the 14th or 15th
  of September. All is OK in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS.

  After the starting script I have a wrong result for 'sudo ip netns
  exec test ifconfig eth1' output as zero's broadcast address in test IP
  name space. Command 'sudo ip netns exec test ping 10.4.21.1' has
  failed.

The last few days i got problems with the main server from which i get
updates for my internet cafe machines.

So i had to change the mirror server and made the mistake to search for the 
best server.
This leads to a long lasting episode of waiting...

On a Mint test machine i can see whats going on:
All servers around the world were pinged and waiting for ping back.
This is a waste of time and internet traffic!

Why should i (living in Germany) ping a mirror server in Brasil, USA,
South Africa, Australia, .. ???

Please change this to a serious request and use/try *only* mirror
servers in the same region (or at least on the same continent).

As i remind correct, this affects all releases from 10.04 till 14.10.

  On Kubuntu 14.10 running Qt 5.3.0 (from the regular repository) touch
  events are ignored in Qt 5 based applications. It works fine when I
  run an application against Qt 5.3.2, see QTBUG-38625 and qtbase change
  id I30d36397aa4ff2fb7a8ad2bbb94c2a13abd472b4.

  Qt 4 applications work fine (however, they just emulate a mouse event
  afaics), Chrome is fine (if you manually tell it the xinput device
  id), but Qt 5 applications don't handle touch events. I can scroll
  through, for example systemsettings, with two fingers, but clicking
  is not possible. The mouse moves and the button is hovered but never
  actually triggered. It affects both QML-based applications (like
  Plasmashell) as well as traditional widget-based apps.

  After upgrading from 14.04 to 14.10 there are a lot of places where
  the graphics are working much slower than they were before:

  - Gnome Shell Interface is very sluggish, visible chops (redrawing)
  when pressing the [Super] key.

  - Selecting text in Gedit takes a full second pr. line

  Experiences some subjective improvement when I booted kernel 3.13.0-37
  instead of 3.16.0-23, but that may be my imagination as the problem
  persists.

  point to the issue being the Intel drivers.

You can't swipe it away on Windows Phone or iOS either. The difference
is that in Ubuntu, it is much bigger and completely opaque, which makes
it more obstructive.

If it was smaller and/or more transparent, and if it could be tapped
through (like Ubuntu notifications on the PC), maybe you wouldn't feel
the need to swipe it away.

Bug description:
  FFe justification: now that multiarch support for runtime libraries in
  the base system is available in the archive, the next step in this
  process is multiarch coinstallability of -dev packages.  Although most
  of the remaining work on multiarch -dev can and will take place in ppa
  for natty given where we are in the release cycle, any -dev package
  tree has at its root linux-libc-dev which is built from the 'linux'
  source package - the package which is updated more frequently than any
  other by SRU.  Rather than trying to keep up with SRUs, or
  artificially inflating the version of a linux-libc-dev-only package
  build in ppa, it would be welcome if a multiarch-ready linux-libc-dev
  could be included in the archive for natty.

  Risks: anything that looks directly in /usr/include/asm for headers
  will have problems with this change; anything that uses the system
  include path from the compiler will not.  My best efforts at examining
  the archive for this issue (see below for details) have turned up only
  four packages in main and universe that are affected: three C library
  implementations, and bash-completion.  Updating these packages in
  concert is manageable (patch for eglibc is ready, patches for the
  others are in preparation), but there's always some risk that the text
  search on package sources has missed something, and there wouldn't be
  room for another full archive rebuild before release to catch other
  breakage.

  
  Details:
  In order to have coinstallable multiarch -dev packages of any sort, 
linux-libc-dev first needs to be coinstallable since libc-dev depends on it.  
This seems to be straightforward to achieve; only the asm directory needs to be 
moved to the multiarch directory path, all the other header files appear to be 
(sensibly) architecture-neutral and can be shared between architectures.

  The compiler will find /usr/include/triplet/asm for the
  corresponding architecture with no problems; I've done a number of
  test builds that work just fine this way.  The only trouble is with
  software that walks the filesystem looking for asm/foo.h includes
  instead of trusting the compiler to resolve them.  It's unlikely that
  software should need to do this since the asm headers should as a rule
  not be directly included from userspace anyway, but the chances are
  not zero. I didn't expect nearly as many packages to break as did by
  the move to /usr/lib/triplet, either, so it seems my faith in the
  sanity of upstream build systems is generally misplaced.  And I don't
  think we have time to discover any resulting issues with another
  archive test rebuild and fix the resulting packages before the natty
  release.

We should at least consider to not show it at all on fullscreen video
playback (not to mention it uses the currently hardcoded shell rotation
so it comes up in portrait mode while playing video in landscape). pop-
over volume notification that you cant swipe away is one of the most
annoying things ever invented on mobile OSes, i wonder if we cant do
better than the others here :)

Yes, I seem to have an interaction with chrome. Once init has crashed I
have had chrome fail to read my profile and come up in a very weird
state ... reboot fixes ... until the next init crash.  I did have two
machines running 12.04. I've upgraded one machine to 14.04 and haven't
had the problem re-appear ... so far ... but it isn't convenient to
upgrade my 12.04 machine just now.

Not sure if it's the underlying cause, but uninstalling my fglrx
packages, rebooting, then reinstalling them fixed the issue for me. (AMD

I have  this problem too. I am running 14.10 but I already had the problem in 
14.04
The update manager icon appears in the dash taskbar but clicking the icon never 
grings up the update manager window.

Plug-in in another screen make appears the window in the second screen.

This bug is not fixed !

  bug but so far my bet is on unity.

  always displayed so i do not understand how to change this behavior

Oh yeah, we should never suspend helpers, that's for sure.

I'm not even totally sure we should be suspending the UIs, after all
those are *trusted* prompts, meaning they should be able to trust they
won't go haywire with the CPU.

  After we fix bug #1355173, we'll be leaking trusted prompts in the
  sense that when an app gets unfocused (and potentially killed
  subsequently), the trusted prompts will be left running, not suspended
  with the app. We should apply the same rules to the whole app
  container (can we use ual? add the prompts to the pgroup/cgroup?).

  This needs an escape route, too, for trusted helpers to be able to
  kill prompts as they need to.

  A fresh install of Server 13.10 on old hardware fails when a USB
  keyboard is present. The installation succeeds when a PS/2 keyboard is

  The issue was experienced independently on HP/Compag  dc5850 with
  Athlon X2 2.3 GHz dual core, 4GB RAM; and DELL Optiplex 755. See

I have ann idenical problem to c4gamerz.
It seems to be tied in with Wine and  the latest updates to the kernel headers. 
It all went haywire after installing Wine and the headers on the same day.

I have had a bit of success.

Everything is working again.

I did 3 things:

1. Removed all custom keybindings in dconf editor
2. Installed and the uninstalled xbindkeys
3. Made the system create an .Xmodmap in my user directory

Now all shortcuts are working, including a terminal script being run
from my eject key.

Can't say for certain what fixed the issue, but for now working (and
i'll be avoiding the gnome control centre for adjusting shortcuts until
that is patched)

  notification area, because their developers don't necessarily know
  that Ubuntu even exists.

Bug description:
  Occasionally users will receive and OTA update that requires apparmor
  policy to be recompiled. Recompiling apparmor policy can take quite a
  bit of time (minutes) depending on how many applications the user has
  installed. While this is only expected to happen on major OTA OS
  upgrades (eg, 14.10 to 15.04), it is possible it could happen at other
  times. This would improve the user experience for developers
  considerably since policy recompiles can be relatively frequent when
  running the development release.

  To improve the user experience, we should detect and recompile
  apparmor profiles prior to reboot but after system-image updates has
  downloaded the new update. This always for the possibility of using a
  progress meter when compiling policy (which we currently cannot).
  Needs design input for when to do it and how the progress meter should
  look.

  - undisplayed notifications: show a filled white bell.

  belong to admin group, hint message on how to get root access may be
  printed. I think bashrc should check for sudo group also.

  I was able to reproduce this problem with ubuntu-rtm image #91 for
  Nexus 4:

  Steps to reproduce:

  1. Load some music onto device
  2. Navigate to My Music scope in dash (e.g. by clicking the My Music 
category header in music scope).
  3. Select an artist from the surfacing results

  Observed behaviour:
  Standard search results for the artist's name are displayed with small icons 
for artists, albums and tracks.

  Expected behaviour:
  The special albums_of_artist view should be displayed with a full width 
result showing art for the artist.

  Surprisingly, if I select the same artist result as it appears in the
  music aggregator scope, I get the albums_of_artist view.  This makes
  me suspect that this is a problem in the dash or unity-scopes-shell,
  where the department ID from the canned query is being lost.

After further inspection of the code, I believe that no change in needed

  When we create a trusted prompt session over an application, let's say a 
small dialog, and then switch applications, when we switch back to the original 
application the dialog is not overlayed on top of the original application. The 
program providing the dialog seems happy, and is still running, but visually it 
is not there.

  We notice this when using the payments UI which overlays ontop of the
  dash. In some cases we need to show Online Accounts which runs as an
  independent application and causes a switching behavior. When
  returning back to the dash the Payment UI is not visible. It also
  happens if the Payment UI is visible and you switch applications using
  the right swipe.

This is happening for any gtk-3.12 theme which has proper support for
gtk-headerbar.

How to reproduce on Utopic:

1. sudo apt-get install Numix
2. sudo apt-get install gnome-tweak-tool
3. change Gtk theme to Numix
4. Open any app with Gtk-Headerbar ( NOT directly patched by Ubuntu) like
gnome-tweak-tool, gnome-system-log
2. enable show-desktop on unity launcher
3. Click on show-desktop first time. it will show desktop.
4. Click on it again, it crashes compiz sometimes does not recover from it.
Users have to fallback to TTY force restart lightdm.

The problem also occurs for any headerbar app from Gnom3 ppa (for
example gnome-contacts, baobab, gnome-maps).

Attached crash file from /var/crash/compiz.

Note: Compiz on other desktop shell/session works relatively well. For
example in Gnome-Flashback-Compiz session it doesn't happen.

Have had a similar issue.
When I tried to run loginctl I got Failed to issue method call: Cannot 
launch daemon, file not found or permissions invalid and trying to execute 
polkit-gnome-authentication-agent-1 resulted in Unable to determine the 
session we are in: No session for pid 

None of the solutions above helped for me.

What helped for me was to remove all i386 parts of PAM (which got installed 
with Skype) similar to

I then rebooted and got all functionality back. After reinstalling Skype and 
the libs and rebooting everything is still working fine.

Bug description:
  After a new install of 64 bit Ubuntu 13.10 on my second partition, I
  used dpkg to reinstall all the same packages I had on my 32 bit 13.04
  partition.  I copied all my home directory files over and updated all
  the packages.  I now find that I don't have permissions to change the
  network settings; I can't mount my other hard drive or any USB stick
  using nautilus, or (udisks without using sudo)' I can't run synaptic
  by clicking on the GUI (I have to go to a terminal and sudo synaptic);
  etc.  I can't find any documentation on the configuration of
  policykit-desktop-privileges, so I'm filing this bug.  For me it
  appears to be totally broken.  Maybe someone can help me out.

FWIW, now that the QA mock battery code's been merged, this bug's
precondition (have a low battery) can be mocked from phablet-shell using

The battery icon is clipped because it's not a square but a rectangle: the 
source file canvas is 105x90 px. The icon should be downsized while maintaining 
its aspect ratio. 
I am not sure if at the moment, the SDK allows to display an image which is not 
squared but I know that Sebastien Bacher wrote a hack to display the same icon 
in the indicator bar (and the system settings menu).

I suspended my dv7, when I tried to resume it crashed, I rebooted it.
Since then, audio is not working, everything seems fine visually, I have
tried many tutorials to no avail, everything seems to be in working
order, but no sound comes out of speakers or headphone.

I have also tried an external usb audio driver, no sound comes out of it
either. It seems to be recognized, there is no indication that it should
not be working.

  This is caused by an SDK issue we think, that is being tracked here:

+1 on this. Recently upgraded to 14.10 from 14.04 and the Friends app is
only showing the last Twitter updates from before the upgrade. I've also
re-installed the app and removed and re-added my Twitter accounts and it
is still only showing the same old tweets. Is there a debug flag or
something to see what's happening. Running this from the command line
gives the output below.

  is friend app not available in 14.10. I used to get notifications in the 
previous versions of ubuntu.
  Its not working in 14.10.

  I was using the friends app till ubuntu 14.04 as soon as I updated to ubuntu 
14.10, the friends app is not working.
  I used to get notifications (notify osd) in the previous version. Neither the 
app is getting updated with the latest feeds from
  twitter and facebook nor I am getting any notifications.

  I tried uninstalling and reinstalling as well as remove the online accounts 
from the systems settings menu and added the accounts again.
  Neither way it doesnt seems to work.

  It was reallt a very good application. Please some one help me on
  this.

  Is the friends app still supported in the latest version of ubuntu?

  Using libxml2 2.7.8.dfsg-4ubuntu0.2 from (K)Ubuntu 11.10.

  In an attempt to address oCERT 2011-003, libxml2 now seeds its hash
  table with using rand(). This is broken and lame:

  Firstly, srand() and rand() are not thread-safe, even though libxml2
  is supposed to be thread-safe (when adequately initialized by the
  program). The fix is easy: replace srand() with a variable assignment,
  and replace rand() with rand_r().

  Secondly, using time(NULL) as a seed totally misses the point. It is
  trivial for a potential attacker to guess the value of time(NULL).
  That's the current UTC current time rounded to the second.

Non-square icons are indeed supported in the SDK now, but it is assumed 
that the icon will be square, as per the notification spec. This should 
be an easy fix in unity8 then (fillMode: Image.PreserveAspectFit).

  Since ubuntu 12.04 sudo group is used for granting root privileges.
  AFAIK admin group was retained for backward compatibility only, at
  least Server Guige for Ubuntu 14.04 says that one should use sudo
  group for root access.

  Currently /etc/bash.bashrc check only for admin group. If the user
  belong to admin group, hint message on how to get root access may be
  printed. I think bashrc should check for sudo group also.

  I'm not entirely sure how to reproduce this bug but I try to sum up
  the conditions and how the phone was set up before.

  1. Make sure both SIM cards are inserted
  2. SIM1 is locked
  3. reboot device
  4 skip SIM PIN entry

  When skipping the SIM PIN entry screen, you can see a small glitch on
  the top of the screen. It looks like a dialog/snap but it disappears
  very quickly.

  Now, I had my device locked for a while and when I unlocked it via the hard 
key button a snap decision appeared on top of the greeter saying Enter SIM 
PIN1. It is possible to swipe away the greeter screen but then this is it. You 
are basically stuck. 
  I managed as well to pull down the notifications menu but the snap stayed on 
top of that.
  It looks like there is there passcode screen in the background and if you 
want to return back to the greeter you have to lock/unlock the device with the 
hard key button. 

  Maybe anyone can reproduce this bug or knows what causes it. Please
  see attached screenshots for more visual info.

  then the cache files in /var/cache/apparmor are used (good).

  However, if the cache files are up to date and I specify:
  /sbin/apparmor_parser --write-cache --replace --cache-loc=/var/cache/apparmor 
-O no-expr-simplify -- profile1 profile2 ...

  then the cache files in /var/cache/apparmor are all regenerated (not
  good).  This needs to be fixed in order to use '-O no-expr-simplify'
  to fix bug #1383858.

Bug description:
  AppArmor has several optimization options that can be used to help
  speed up policy compiles for certain types of policy. Currently, we
  are using expr tree simplification option by default, which has
  dramatic affects on policy compiles for the evince profile. However,
  with click profiles not using expr tree simplification (ie, adding the
  '-O no-expr-simplify' option) can improve click policy generation by
  44% (375 vs 210 seconds).

  On Krillin, the difference is even more substantial: 636 vs 233
  seconds (63%).

  Short term for rtm is to to use '-O no-expr-simplify' when compiling
  policy in /var/lib/apparmor/profiles but leave /etc/apparmor.d alone.
  We can do the same with click-apparmor. Note: the fix for bug #1385947
  must be included with this fix.

  The long term fix is to adjust expr tree simplification to be more
  efficient (at least as fast as without) and drop the '-O no-expr-
  simplify' option.

  Justification: apparmor policy recompilation is not expected to happen
  as part of the normal user experience (see bug #1350598 for a lot of
  detail) and it is expected to only happen on upgrades from 14.10 to
  15.04 or to fix very serious apparmor or apparmor policy bugs. None of
  these bugs are currently scheduled for OTA. However, *if* we ever need
  to fix one of these, policy will have to be recompiled.

  Choices:
  1. do nothing for RTM since policy recompiles are expected to be rare, but do 
apply this change to 15.04. Policy is expected to be recompiled on upgrades to

  On the one hand, this is not a super critical bug because the ubuntu-
  download-manager API is not widely used by apps. However, this API is

  was an error). Plan would be to piggback this on the fix for bug
  #1383858 so policy recompile only happens once.

This doesn't appear to be a bug against the GTK package at all, but
rather an issue with OpenJava.  As well, it does not appear to be valid
against OpenJava either.  This is based on the following error lines:


Caused by: net.sourceforge.jnlp.LaunchException: Fatal: Application Error: 
Cannot grant permissions to unsigned jars. Application requested security 
permissions, but jars are not signed.

This seems to suggest that this issue is related to the fact the Java 
application is unsigned, and the security settings for OpenJava appear to be 
such that the software is requesting security permissions but is unsigned.  
Therefore, I don't think this is a bug, but rather an issue of the security 
settings you have set for Java runtime in OpenJava.

Bug description:
  Using libxml2 2.7.8.dfsg-4ubuntu0.2 from (K)Ubuntu 11.10.

  In an attempt to address oCERT 2011-003, libxml2 now seeds its hash
  table with using rand(). This is broken and lame:

  Firstly, srand() and rand() are not thread-safe, even though libxml2
  is supposed to be thread-safe (when adequately initialized by the
  program). The fix is easy: replace srand() with a variable assignment,
  and replace rand() with rand_r().

  Secondly, using time(NULL) as a seed totally misses the point. It is
  trivial for a potential attacker to guess the value of time(NULL).
  That's the current UTC current time rounded to the second.
