Recently, I have started to notice that the fan on my laptop runs CONSTANTLY. This has never been an issue for me before (been using 12.04 since release). Investigating the issue, I have discovered that when running kernel 3.2.0-35 or lower, the fan runs only intermittently if at all. But when running 3.2.0-36 or 3.2.0-37 (the latest release today), the fan runs constantly, even for minimal computing tasks. It appears that a power-regression has been introduced into the kernel. Any chance this is fixable so that 12.04 can run fan-free again? I've also gotten graphical bug where dash is drawn on screen even if it's closed. Ubuntu 12.10 Unity 6.10.0 preload 0.6.4-2 My display adapter is Radeon HD 3450 and i'm running opensource radeon drivers. If i uninstall preload dash doesn't slowdown anymore. Reproducing the bug: 1) Open 2 new windows with LibreOffice Writer. 2) Open 2 new windows with LibreOffice Calc. 3) Open the toolbox Navigator (Shortcut F5) in one of the two Calc windows. 4) Click on the icon of LibreOffice Calc in the Launcher > nothing happens! (I expect, that the Spread mode of Calc starts now and shows the 2 open windows of LibreOffice Calc). 5) Click F5 once again, so that the Navigator disappears > Now the Spread mode shows the 2 open windows of LibreOffice Calc as expected. My conclusio: When multiple windows of LibreOffice Calc and LibreOffice Writer are open and another toolbox (e.g. Navigator) is also open, then the Spread mode by means of clicking on the icon in the Launcher (e.g. LibreOffice Calc) doesn't work. Notes: - I use Ubuntu 12.10 64 Bit (Unity-Package 6.8.0-0ubuntu2; Compiz 1:0.9.8.4+bzr3407-0ubuntu1). - The total Spread mode always works well when using the shortcut SUPER+W (but then all (!) open windows are shown and not only all open windows of the relevant application). - This bug can be reproduced using a Live-USB-stick of Ubuntu 12.10. Reproducing the bug: 1) Open 2 new windows with LibreOffice Writer. 2) Open 2 new windows with LibreOffice Calc. 3) Open the toolbox Navigator (Shortcut F5) in one of the two Calc windows. 4) Click on the icon of LibreOffice Calc in the Launcher > nothing happens! (I expect, that the Spread mode of Calc starts now and shows the 2 open windows of LibreOffice Calc). 5) Click F5 once again, so that the Navigator disappears > Now the Spread mode shows the 2 open windows of LibreOffice Calc as expected. My conclusio: When multiple windows of LibreOffice Calc and LibreOffice Writer are open and another toolbox (e.g. Navigator) is also open, then the Spread mode by means of clicking on the icon in the Launcher (e.g. LibreOffice Calc) doesn't work. Notes: - I use Ubuntu 12.10 64 Bit (Unity-Package 6.8.0-0ubuntu2; Compiz 1:0.9.8.4+bzr3407-0ubuntu1). - The total Spread mode always works well when using the shortcut SUPER+W (but then all (!) open windows are shown and not only all open windows of the relevant application). - This bug can be reproduced using a Live-USB-stick of Ubuntu 12.10. I've also tried: unity --replace However, those commands only result in the screenshot I attached, which shows that the close, minimize, and maximize buttons are frozen and still unclickable. Restarting my computer fixes the issue, but being unable to suspend my laptop is unacceptable. I am using Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. Installed everything that I need, decided to add some new scopes for unity:
"sudo apt-get install unity-
scope-{calculator,gdocs,gdrive,github,manpages,soundcloud}"
After login/logout restart, all I can see in dash is "Sorry, your
search returned no results".
Started Unity from a terminal, this is what I get when I open dash:

Similarly, when I press Ctrl + Alt + 2 to place the window in the bottom half of the screen and then try to make it maximized the title bar disappears but the window does not maximize. Moreover, it does not stretch to screen's maximal width and it pops up in every workspace. Printing to the Samsung M262x 282x Foomatic/lj5gray driver works correctly. Printing the same document from xpdf works correctly. However saving the pdf produced by evince and then printing that with xpdf also fails. I suspect that the issue is a ghostscript issue but the recommendation was to report printing problems as a cups issue first. Attached is a document saved by evince that when sent directly to the driver reproduces the problem. When I press Ctrl + Alt + 8 the terminal window is placed in the upper half of the screen which is fine. However, if I press Ctrl + Alt + 5 to make it maximize the title bar disappears. Similarly, when I press Ctrl + Alt + 2 to place the window in the bottom half of the screen and then try to make it maximized the title bar disappears but the window does not maximize. Moreover, it does not stretch to screen's maximal width and it pops up in every workspace. You can see this behaviour in a video I uploaded: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqwiLWhdYK4 At 0:25 you can also see that the window spans for more than one workspace which is not what I intended at all. I've also gotten graphical bug where dash is drawn on screen even if it's closed. Ubuntu 12.10 Unity 6.10.0 preload 0.6.4-2 My display adapter is Radeon HD 3450 and i'm running opensource radeon drivers. If i uninstall preload dash doesn't slowdown anymore. Status in Unity: Expired Status in unity package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: When I executed update-manager on Quantal Quetzal, I noticed a tooltip of a webpage appeared even when the update-manager window was in the front. I would expect a tooltip to disappear when a mouse cursor is moved away from the browser. This behaviour is not common and I was not able to reproduce it again (I assume this is a Unity bug). Also, since the screenshot was taken in hurry there is no mouse cursor visible - though its position can be determined by the location of the tooltip (cursor was above it). Also, since the screenshot was taken in hurry there is no mouse cursor visible - though its position can be determined by the location of the tooltip (cursor was above it).
