[Touch-packages] [Bug 1392699] Re: Can't change locale settings (e.g. language, 12/24-hour time, date format) independently

2015-04-17 Thread FransSchreuder
The same is true for the metric system. Ubuntu touch thinks that everyone who
speaks English, calculates their distance in miles / feet / whatever unit from
the stone age.
Even though I am Dutch, I like my phone to be in the English language, but I do
want my distances to show in metres, kilometres etc.
There is even a language called English (Denmark), but even that language
uses miles

  A. Try to use US English, but with all apps using 24-hour instead of 12-hour
time. Or:
  B. Try to use UK English, but with all apps using -MM-DD date format.

  What happens: You can't.
  What should happen: You can.

Since Ubuntu has existed, it has used the GNU locale system. This
system assumes that every single person using a particular locale
wants exactly the same settings for time display, date display,
currency display, alphabetizing, and number formatting.
  http://www.gnu.org/software/libc/manual/html_node/Effects-of-
  Locale.html

Windows, Mac OS, and (to a lesser extent) iOS have always been more
flexible: setting a locale sets appropriate defaults for these
settings, but you can also change them individually. Ubuntu should do
  the same.

This might involve changing the locale system itself, or it might
involve changing all relevant toolkits so that they ignore the locale
  system when appropriate.

It would also involve adding settings in System Settings to customize
  the individual locale details.

Bug description:
When attempting to set my preferred sound input device, simply leaving
sound preferences and going back to sound preferences, and selecting
input, causes the default SPDIF to be selected again, and not the
internal microphone I preferred. I made a video to demonstrate what I
  mean by this here: http://youtu.be/9Q9EQvLl_rA

  1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System -
About Ubuntu
  14.04

  2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy pkgname'
or by checking in Software Center
I really don't know. It's just the sound preferences.

  3) What you expected to happen
For my selected sound input to be saved.

  4) What happened instead
Keeps defaulting to the top sound input

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1301015] Re: Networking does not restart

2015-04-17 Thread jobarjo
I can't believe this very important functionality has been removed and
there is no alternative solution given for reading the
/etc/network/interfaces file (except reboot)

Ifconfig solution doesn't read the configuration files. It is
unacceptable.

There must be a script that reads this file. Where is it? How to trigger it?
Is it the same with debian?

This feature is documented everywhere:
http://ubuntuguide.org/wiki/Ubuntu_Trusty_Networking

As long as no viable alternative solution is given, this has to be
considered a very important bug.

Bug description:
I have latest Ubuntu Touch 15.04 (r101) installed on Nexus 7 Wifi
  tablet.

When I have Bluetooth keyboard in use in, say, terminal application -
the system dims the screen after a short period of time as if system
is not in use. All this time I do use the system - just only via
  keyboard input.

I believe this is the same when wired keyboard is plugged in via OTG
  cable.

In summary: it seems like Ubuntu Touch does not currently register
hardware keyboard input as user interaction for the purpose of keeping
the high screen brightness and just dims the screen backlight as if
there is no user entry/interaction with the device, even when hardware
attached keyboard is used all the time.

The somehow ugly workaround is to open terminal window and key in: `$
powerd-cli display on bright` and then keep this terminal tab open all
the time while you use hardware attached keyboard. This will keep the
screen at full bright all the time.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1413791] Re: [edge interaction] Left swipe/BFB should reset search string

2015-04-17 Thread Vesa Rautiainen
I think this is a good idea. When the user wants to open multiple music
apps from the filtered list in the given example, the way to go back to
that list is to use right edge navigation. Just one short right edge
swipes gets you back to the search results.

But performing one of the home gestures/actions would reset the view
to initial state and therefore giving always consistent and predictable
end result is a good approach.

** Description changed:

  device nexus 4 mako

  os Ubuntu 15.04 (r73)

I love the left swipe, being able to go back to the main menu by doing a full
swipe to the left is great.
However my list of apps has considerably increased \o/ and i usually search
them via the search button and this is where the problem lies. A full left
swipe does not bring me back to the main menu but to the last searched app if
i opened my app through the search menu

  As an example
Step 1 go to apps scope on main menu
step 2 search music app via the search button ( type music)
  step 3 open music app
step 4 do a full left swippe

I should expect to being brought back to app scope.
== Full left swipe brings me back to results of step 2

+ Desired design solution:
+
+ Long left edge swipe or BFB click on the launcher takes user back to apps
scope (or leftmost scope in the dash). It also resets the search query and
+ positions the list in the beginning.

Step 1 go to apps scope on main menu

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1445405] [NEW] Bash history is not retained if 'reboot' command is used

2015-04-17 Thread Maarten Fonville
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu Vivid, using the 'reboot' command directly reboots the system in such
a way that the bash_history is not retained.
This bug has also been reported in Red Hat:

There it was found that the cause of this bug is to be found within Systemd,
because systemd sends SIGKILL imediately after SIGTERM during shutdown:

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1445408] [NEW] USB-bluetooth-mouse not detected

2015-04-17 Thread Friedemann Schorer
Public bug reported:

Upgraded from Kubuntu 14.04 to 14.10 to 15.04 beta2 yesterday

After finishing the final upgrade and rebooting my USB mouse is no longer
working.
Plugging in the USB dongle (it's a Logitech mouse with bluetooth connection,
worked fine so far) I get the following in syslog:

Very often I get confused when expanding a contact item in the

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1436630] Re: must unlock screen even if it was only off for a few seconds

2015-04-17 Thread Stuart Langridge
Daniel, the setting System Security Privacy Lock phone Lock
when idle sets how long the phone will wait, if left untouched, before
locking the screen. I currently have it set to 1 minute. However, if I
press the power button to turn off the screen, and then immediately
press the power button to turn the screen back on again, I must enter my
PIN again; this is not controlled by the above setting. At the moment,
the phone basically locks every time the screen is turned off, and as
far as I can tell I can't change that without completely disabling
locking. What I'd like (and what I believe Selene is requesting) is that
turn off the screen does not always mean and lock the screen.

Bug description:
On Ubuntu Touch so far (vivid, mid-March 2015), it is still necessary
to unlock the screen after it shuts off, even if the screen was only
off for a few seconds. This is inconvenient, and it would be much
easier if the lock didn't activate for ~10 seconds after the screen
  turns itself off.

If the user activates the screen-off event by tapping the power
button, then it's okay to lock immediately. If the screen times out
though, it should probably delay before locking, to give the user a
chance to turn the screen back on.

Could we add a ~10 second delay between automatic screen shutoff and
  screen lock?

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1430828] Re: scopes dont load pictures

2015-04-17 Thread Robie Basak
On a hunch I did some experimenting. Right now I have two wifi networks.
One doesn't work - you can associate, authenticate with WPA, but will
not get DHCP as it is not actually connected to anything. The other
works as normal. My phone was configured to either.

If my phone boots and chooses to connect to the network that doesn't
work, images in scopes will be forever broken, even if I do then switch
to the network that does work. So when ogra asked me in IRC if my
network was working, I said yes as I had switched to the network that
was working.

So, steps to reproduce:

1. Turn off DHCP and remove connectivity from your router.
2. Reboot the phone.

Expected behaviour: apps in the Apps scope have icons, but otherwise
Internet scopes are not expected to work.

Actual behaviour: apps in the Apps scope do not have icons.

3. Connect the phone to a wi-fi network that does work.

Expected behaviour: on refresh, all scopes work as normal, and no icons
are missing.

Actual behaviour: on refresh, all scopes work as normal but all icons
are still missing. Apps scope icons continue to be missing.

Workaround: I forget the wi-fi network that doesn't work and reboot.
This caused the phone to connect to the working network on boot, and
everything worked.

This is with image r21 on an Aquaris.

Bug description:
When I connect my Aquaris E4.5 to my car's handsfree device (Funkwerk
Ego Flash) via Bluetooth I experience a skipping problem when playing
  sound files through A2DP.

Half a second for each second there is a pause. The rest of that half
second seems to clear a buffer which results in extra fast audio.

To illustrate, listening to a podcast I would expect to hear something
like bla bla bla. However, what I do get to hear sounds more like
  flapflapflap - pause - flapflapflap - pause -

When I connect my Aquaris to my A2DP speakers at home, the audio is
  perfect.

Also, handsfree telephony in my car works like a charm.

So I guess it's just the combination of A2DP while connected to the
handsfree device which causes the trouble.

In the past I've used several phones with the Funkwerk device (always
with handsfree *and* A2DP functionality) including an N900 running
Maemo. There have never been any problems with those.

  [FFe] Release UITK 1.2

Status in ubuntu-ui-toolkit package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Dear release team,

I would like to request a feature freeze exception for the Ubuntu UI
Toolkit package and release it to 15.04. While it is a bugfix only
release, it is still a huge change and it is the next layer above Qt
and below the Ubuntu Touch applications.

The test before the release I will conduct according to the UITK Test
  Plan https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Process/Merges/TestPlan/ui-toolkit what
consists of running all tests for the available core applications.

The test results will be put in the regular place like all other test
  results: http://people.canonical.com/~bzoltan/

The changes of these release are listed here:

    [ Albert Astals Cid ]
    * Fix infinite icon size grow when asked for a non square icon
  Fixes: LP: #1422835
    * IconProvider: Make sure icons fit in the given size
    [ Christian Dywan ]
    * Skip select_text_longtap_when_active under opengles2.
  Fixes: LP: #1401140
    * Support for multiple devices with push_to_phone.sh.
    * Take OrientationHelper y coordinate from real parent height.
  Fixes: LP: #1413194
    * Update popover position upon pointer movement.
  Fixes: LP: #1199502, LP: #1415532
    [ Sebastien Bacher ]
    * document that MainView's applicationName is used to set the gettext
  domain. Fixes: LP: #1421661.
    [ Tiago Salem Herrmann ]
    * Drop cache once properties are successfully restored.
    [ Timo Jyrinki ]
    * Add dist-upgrade option to the UITK Test Plan script. Output the
  selected parameters in the beginning.
    [ Tim Peeters ]
    * Add MainView 1.2 which removes the deprecated toolbar support.
    * Enable PageStack header animations for MainView 1.2.
    * Fix the size and anchors of a Page that is loaded inside a Loader.
This is useful when a Page is Loaded by a Tab. Fixes: LP: #1424635
    * Fix UITK gallery content page width.
  Fixes: LP: #1424635, LP: #1425470
    [ Zsombor Egri ]
    * Alarm services regression fix. Fixes: LP: #1401883
    * Implement ListItem dragging support in ListView.
  Fixes: LP: #119535
    * Introducing select/multiselect mode in ListItem.
    * Moving the tst_focus.qml under exceptions till we fix DatePicker
  binding loops.
    * RTL (Right To Left) support in ListItem.
    * RTM branch diff merge. Fixes: LP: #1358610.
    * Second stage of simplification - divider group property is an item,
simplifying the anchoring of the contentItem. PropertyChange does
not backup the property binding, uses QQmlPropertyPrivate::write()
with parameter to keep bindings. ListItemAnimator uses behavior to
animate snapping. Styling got styledItem context property to obey
general styling rules. clicked() and pressAndHold() emission fix
  when content is swiped.
    * Transferring the ListItem attached properties to ListItemStyle API.
Most of the style API became redundant, and removed. Few API from
ListItem were also removed as not needed. ListItemAnimator,
  UCListItemAttached and UCActionPanel classes removed.
Panel swiping overshoot made elastic. Snapping animation transformed
into SmoothedAnimation, uses velocity of 60GU/second. Turning
warnings to be reported in the error property.
  SHOW_SERVICEPROPERTIES_WARNINGS environment variable set will
display them in the console. Fixes: LP: #1423203.
    * Updating documentation and imports for 1.2 Vivid (Qt 5.4).

Title:
Keyboard layout changes randomly for no reason

Status in xorg package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This problem has occurred ever since I installed Ubuntu on this
machine, I installed 14.04, and even though I have upgraded to 14.10,
the problem still persists. Even though I have gone into the Text
entry settings, and deleted English (US) from their. It will still
at random times change from what I want it to be English (UK), to
English (US) keyboard layout. And when this has happened I have
looked in the settings to see which of the keyboard layouts is
selected, and even though it is clear that it has somehow changed to
English (US), it still says it is English (UK).

Currently, the only way to take a screenshot is to attach the phone to
a computer via USB and use phablet-screenshot.

There should be a way to take a screenshot from the phone. Otherwise,
it will be hard for people to share how great their phone is on social
media, as well as other functions.

  Proposed design:
  - For triggering: Volume Up + Volume Down
  - For indicating the user: White layer opacity animation shown in attached
video + shutter sound

Title:
Invoking Launcher while using a Scope exits to Dash/First (main) Scope

Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Steps to reproduce the issue:
1 - open e.g. Ubuntu Store scope (from the app scope) or Youtube scope (from
the video scope)
2 - (shortly) swipe from the left to invoke launcher

  Expected outcome:
The launcher can be used to open a pinned app (while the current scope is
still kept in the background) or dismissed to return to the current scope.

  Actual outcome:
The current scope will immediately be closed and the first (main) scope
(typically the app scope on devel-images and the Today scope on RTM) will be
shown.
If I understand the current design guidelines correctly this is the expected
behaviour for a full left-to-right swipe, but not for a short swipe from the
left to invoke the launcher.

This behaviour can be observed on both the current devel-proposed and
  RTM images.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1370008] Re: url-dispatcher-bad-url

In general there should probably be fallback handling in the URL
dispatcher for all unknown URL schemata, I think? (Although having a
dedicated handler for market: URLs may also be useful.)

Bug description:
In Ubuntu 14.10, the mouse cursor graphic gets corrupted under certain
occasions. It then looks flipped, sheared or shows fragments of a
  previous cursor.

  * when switching the cursor them forth and back in Gnome Tweak Tool
  * when dragdropping a document icon

Maybe related, the cursor does not always show the correct image scale
on a high-dpi display (this was working right in 14.04). For example
after login, or when hovering specific areas, or on mouse down to
start a dragdrop, the cursor appears 1/4 the expected size.

Attached is a photo of a corrupted cursor (whereas a screenshot with
  Gimp showed the uncorrupted cursor).

[meet ubuntu] welcome tutorial omits switching/closing apps

Status in Ubuntu UX bugs:
  Fix Released
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
The welcome tutorial is a great quickstart for new users, but it omits two
important features:
   - How to use the right edge to switch between running apps.
   - How to close apps (swipe left edge across, hold app icon a few seconds,
tap the 'X' which appears over it).

Otherwise, the right edge is presented as nothing more than a way to
unlock the welcome screen (which isn't a lock screen), and it can be
very difficult to figure out how to close apps. Many apps don't have
any built-in way to quit, so this standardized method should probably
be mentioned. Closing apps, in particular, is not very discoverable
  as-is.

However, the two switches are independent: I can switch Location
detection off and the GPS switch will stay on. This might be
confusing for users: I'd expect both switches to go off when turning
  Location detection off.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1438976] Re: Lock Security - Passcode and Passphrase input field: selectall/cut/copy entry should not be available

2015-04-17 Thread Christian Dywan
Virtual wallets such as LastPass and SeaHorse rely on being able to make
passwords visible so you can copy them. Many apps these days have a show
password button in or next to text input fields.
Although arguably this can be implemented by unsetting the password mode. Or a
show password button could be part of TextField - which personally I'd find
very useful.

Status in dialer-app package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
When an incoming call is answered when the dialer app is not running I
  see the following:

  The lock screen is shown
The Phone splashscreen is shown Phone in the header with a blank panel
The dialer is shown with calling number in the header
the dialer is shown with the contact name in the header

  What I expect when answering:
I go straight to a page that looks like the dialer but is not enabled, or t
least does not have a blank panel
I go to the dialer page and see the calling contact name on the active call

After the call is hungup and the phone is locked, unlock the phone with the
dialer app as the active app
The dialer panel is seen with the header Emergency callsthen changes to ATT

Similar poor transitions are seen when going form a voicemail or missed call
notification.
In this case I often see No net prior to seeing ATT

The experience is better when the app has been run, but we still see
  the lock screen.

It seems we should not be setting default text for the header, but
should wait until the correct state and context is known.

  -UX comment--

+1 with Pat. Ideally, if an incoming call is accepted the transition
shouldn't show the lock screen at all.

Title:
  USB-bluetooth-mouse not detected

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
Upgraded from Kubuntu 14.04 to 14.10 to 15.04 beta2 yesterday

After finishing the final upgrade and rebooting my USB mouse is no longer
working.
Plugging in the USB dongle (it's a Logitech mouse with bluetooth connection,
worked fine so far) I get the following in syslog:

  Apr 17 11:22:34 tp220 mtp-probe: bus: 4, device: 8 was not an MTP device

I remember having seen messages that the USB device list could not be
accessed, but these are gone now.

Please let me know if I can be of further help to track this down.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1445483] [NEW] BQ Device does not update to nearest image r20 while waiting for the latest update r21 which is being phased

2015-04-17 Thread Nekhelesh Ramananthan
Public bug reported:

The title can be a bit confusing, so let me explain the situation more
clearly. I got my BQ device today and proceeded to set up accounts and
get it updated. At first I got application updates and no system-image
updates. On looking at the version number, I noticed that it was r16. It
was last updated on 30-1-2015 according to the about page in the system
settings app.

Now while I understand that OTA-3 (r21) is being phased, I would expect
my phone to at least be updated to OTA-2 (r20) since OTA-2 is out for
everyone.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1331348] Re: No access to contacts on File

2015-04-17 Thread Robie Basak
This might be better described as No Import/export to/from files. I'd
certainly like VCF import.

Workaround: see http://askubuntu.com/q/360466/7808

** Summary changed:

- No access to contacts on File
+ No import/export to/from files

Title:
  No import/export to/from files

Status in address-book-app package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Hi,

There are no option to sync contact for a human being form the
Contacts apps, from a backup file (xml, vcf,…?). This need comes from
that many users of Ubuntu might be moving from Android or other famous
OS on phone; these OS not always give the option to sync contact on
SIM, but on an file on the SDCARD, so Ubuntu (address-book-app) should
provide a way to import these backups.

  Steps :

   * Launch contacts
   * no option to sync, import/export contact are found on the interface (only
a search option and a + option)
   * swipe from down to access the + menu, users might expect to add manually
contact here, no more option like importing contacts from file.
   * To be sure I checked in the system settings, no import option found there

User should be able to add contact from his backup on SDCARD (no one
want to import hundreds of contacts manually).

[dash] Make the dash a very first window on the left when multitasking

Status in Ubuntu UX bugs:
  Triaged
Status in unity8 package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Currently the dash can end up anywhere in the stack and you sometimes
thinking Why I can't swipe this thing away? Oh, right, that's the dash.
Also I noticed when I try to swipe away the most left window I often bring up
the dash panel accidentally. I reckon positioning the main window there would
reduce those accidents.

[Touch-packages] [Bug 1442964] Re: [Address book] There should be an icon for the default action in contact list

2015-04-17 Thread Olga Kemmet
This issue will be resolved by removing the list item expansion from the
Address Book app, as per bug bug #1368671. Marking as invalid.

Bug description:
This is somewhat related to bug #1368671.

Very often I get confused when expanding a contact item in the
contacts app, there's only a contact and a message icon. There isn't a
call one, because tapping on the number is doing that. But because
it doesn't look active (and there are icons that do), I end up absent-
mindedly pressing the message icon when I wanted to call.
