[Touch-packages] [Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session
Hello Don, probably an SRU sponsor would like the debdiff to include references where to find the patch that you applied in upstream sources or other bug reports. The usual way to do so is via a Description: and Origin: header in the patch, see https://dep- team.pages.debian.net/deps/dep3/ for more information. Given that this happens a whole bunch we should know pretty quick if its fixed. [Regression Potential] The test being modified is designed to not report crashes that happen during logout. It's possible that some reports don't have a Date in them but in that case we couldn't compare the logind_session information to the Date anyway so those crashes would have been reported anyway. Regardless, the potential is that we'll have some more crashes reported about things crashing on logout which is better than the hundreds of crashes we get like this one. The Ubuntu Error Tracker has been receiving reports about a problem regarding apport. This problem was most recently seen with package version 2.20.3-0ubuntu8.2, the problem page at https://errors.ubuntu.com/problem/65cb22d7c29a308dad9368b971e1b8d6384c9089 contains more details, including versions of packages affected, stacktrace or traceback, and individual crash reports. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1814607] [NEW] ubuntu 18.04.2 daily is janky with chromium on fishgl.com?
Public bug reported: I've been testing as follows: - install chromium (or chrome, or chrome beta) - open http://fishgl.com - crank up number of fish to 325 (or as high as it'll go and sustain 60 fps) - after fish are happily swimming, watch them swim for 60 seconds, and count number of times the screen freezes This was fine (i.e. zero hangs) on 18.04.1 + https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2400400 but not fine on 18.04.2 (i.e. always hangs briefly within 60 seconds) The last four times I ran this, I got 4, 2, 8, 3 hangs in 60 seconds. Each hang usually lasted for less than a second. Some lasted for a second and a half (maybe that was two hangs back to back). Running xclock -update 1 seems to show that the hang extends to other apps, i.e. when the fish hang, xclock also seems to hang. Running firefox in parallel, or a second chromium window, seems to avoid the hang. tail -f /var/log/syslog didn't show any new output during hangs. (There are a lot of gnome-shell stack dumps in /var/log/syslog, fwiw.) I'll try to test on a non-Hades system. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1754671] Re: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression
Not sure what happened there. It was looking up *some* names in the $COMPANY.com domain on the VPN, but others not, consistently. I couldn't see a pattern. I have manually set ipv4.dns-search="~." and ipv4.dns-priority=-1 and now it does seem to be behaving. However, this shouldn't be necessary. This VPN has non-split routing and shouldn't it have non-split DNS too, by default? I shouldn't have to change the configuration, just to get back to the secure behaviour which used to work. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1754671 Title: Full-tunnel VPN DNS leakage regression Status in NetworkManager: Fix Released Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in network-manager source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Bug description: * Impact When using a VPN the DNS requests might still be sent to a DNS server outside the VPN when they should not * Test case Configure the system to send all the traffic to a VPN, do a name resolution, the request should not go to the public DNS server (to be checked by capturing the traffic by example with wireshark) * Regression potential The code change the handling of DNS servers when using a VPN, we should check that name resolution still work whne using a VPN in different configurations - In 16.04 the NetworkManager package used to carry this patch: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu/view/head:/debian/patches/Filter-DNS-servers-to-add-to-dnsmasq-based-on-availa.patch It fixed the DNS setup so that when I'm on the VPN, I am not sending unencrypted DNS queries to the (potentially hostile) local nameservers. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1666203] Re: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session
Thank you both very much for the responses. Toru: I just tested this on another 16.04 system (now with kernel 4.4.0-142-generic) and was unable to reproduce the issue there also. I was able to reproduce the issue on both Bionic systems I tested however. So there seems to be a difference between Xenial and Bionic. Patrik: I believe LTS patches are required to be as minimal as possible to minimize regression risk. It appears that the bug is resolved without the change you mentioned. I looked at the code quickly and couldn't determine whether this change is strictly necessary as the variable that is initialized doesn't seem to be used within the module itself. Should you disagree, then please report back. I would like to ask a sponsor to review the debdiff and give feedback about what changes are desired to get the patch accepted. I will then also test the disco release. Any feedback or additional information is more than welcome, I'm just trying to move this issue forward as well as I can. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to pam in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1666203 Title: pam_tty_audit failed in pam_open_session Status in pam package in Ubuntu: Triaged Status in pam package in Debian: New Bug description: Dear Maintainer. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1624320] Re: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries
February 4th, 2019: Lost a day to this bug -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1624320 Title: systemd-resolved appends 127.0.0.53 to resolv.conf alongside existing entries Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: systemd-resolved, or more precisely the hook script /lib/systemd/system/systemd-resolved.service.d/resolvconf.conf, causes resolvconf to add 127.0.0.53 to the set of nameservers in /etc/resolv.conf alongside the other nameservers. That makes no sense because systemd-resolved sets up 127.0.0.53 as a proxy for those other nameservers. The effect is similar to bug 1624071 but for applications doing their own DNS lookups. It breaks any DNSSEC validation that systemd-resolved tries to do; applications will failover to the other nameservers, bypassing validation failures. And it makes failing queries take twice as long. /etc/resolv.conf should have only 127.0.0.53 when systemd-resolved is active. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1799913] Re: Unhandled lockdown error (-2) - iphone ios 12
When I plug in my iPhone I automatically get a pop up on my iPhone asking if I wish to trust my computer. I accept it and put in my pass code. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1814262] Re: Wired interface gets impossibly high metric 20100
As it recurred again today and showed no signs of correcting itself like it did on Friday, I went ahead and reported it upstream, here: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/issues/116 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to network-manager in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1814262 Title: Wired interface gets impossibly high metric 20100 Status in network-manager package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Actually this might be a heisenbug. I've had an issue with this all morning since network-manager got an update this morning, but just now *while this bug was being submitted* it decided to correct itself. What I was getting was, on a machine (Dell XPS 13 9370) with WiFi and a (Caldigit) Thunderbolt 3 dock with an ethernet port: After the network-manager update I noticed everything was slower than I was used to, and in gnome-shell the network icon showing was the WiFi one, not the wired one. Looking at the output of route, or route -n for simplicity, I would see this: rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG60000 wlp2s0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG20100 00 enp63s0 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 wlp2s0 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 10000 enp63s0 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 60000 wlp2s0 So the metric on the default route on enp63s0 had 20,000 mysteriously added to it, which would obviously make it extremely low-priority. The system was choosing the wifi connection instead, which isn't that great in my office, hence observable slowness. Now, this morning, this seemed to be the sticky situation. It didn't show any sign of changing, whatever I did, after restarts of network- manager, undock/redock, reboots, etc. I could change it manually with ifmetric (and it would work), but that was about it. I would have reported the bug then, but I had to go out. When I got back I plugged in and initially saw the same thing again (that's where the above snippet was pasted from). But *while* the ubuntu-bug network-manager command was running, I noticed the gnome-shell network icon switch to wired, checked again, and saw: rachel@rainbow:~$ route -n Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags Metric RefUse Iface 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG10000 enp63s0 0.0.0.0 192.168.1.254 0.0.0.0 UG20600 00 wlp2s0 169.254.0.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.0.0 U 1000 00 wlp2s0 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 10000 enp63s0 192.168.1.0 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.0 U 60000 wlp2s0 So now the wifi connection has 20,000 added to it, which may still be wrong? But I wouldn't otherwise have noticed it because the system is again *behaving* as expected. This all seemed to happen after the network-manager upgrade (from 1.12.6-0ubuntu4 to 1.15.2-0ubuntu1) this morning. I can't say if these metric+20,000 values were present before then, because I didn't have any cause to go looking at it, it always just worked. Could it be some issue with how the newer network-manager, or one of its associated packages, is figuring out the metrics on new connections? Like it's running some new heuristic to determine which one should really be the preferred? If it's like it was just now, when it fixed itself after a minute or so, that's not really a problem, but if it's like it was this morning when it just seemed to be stuck with the ethernet connection at 20100, it is. When modemmanager scans the serial ports for modems, upsd is unable to open the port configured for an UPS. (It might be possible to exclude some ports from the scan, I didn't check because I have no modem it could configure, I just kicked the package. Status in apport package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Binary package hint: apport Run ubuntu-bug (with no command line options). It will present 5 radio boxes. Select "Other problem." Click "OK". ubuntu-bug will show a dialog that states "No package specified/You need to specify a package or a PID See -- help for more information," and a Close button. There are no help buttons, and no man page. In the dialog, the "--" is on a separate line from "help," so it is not at all clear that this is a command line option (see attached screenshot). From a user's perspective, ubuntu-bug dies, and there is no indication as to what is going wrong, how to fix it, or how to get more information. Even "run ubuntu-bug --help for more information" would be useful, but more useful would be to give some sort of appropriate well-defined behavior (e.g. ask the user for a file name or package name). Most local DNS resolution by applications uses glibc's getaddrinfo() function. This function is configured in various ways by the /etc/resolv.conf file, which tells glibc what nameserver/resolver to contact as well as how to talk to the name server. By default, glibc performs UDP DNS queries, with a single DNS query per UDP packet. The UDP packet size is limited per DNS spec to 512 bytes. For some DNS lookups, a 512 byte UDP packet is not large enough to contain the entire response - for example, an A record lookup with a large number (e.g. 30) of A record addresses. This number of A record entries is possible in some cases of load balancing. When the DNS UDP response size is larger than 512 bytes, the server puts as much response as it can into the DNS UDP response, and marks the "trunacted" flag. This lets glibc know that the DNS UDP packet did not contain the entire response for all the A records. When glibc sees a UDP response that is "trunacted", by default it ignores the contents of that response and issues a new DNS query, using TCP instead of UDP. The TCP packet size has a higher size limit (though see bug 1804487 which is a bug in systemd's max-sizing of TCP DNS packets), and so *should* allow glibc to receive the entire DNS response. However, glibc issues DNS queries for both A and records. When it uses UDP, those DNS queries are separate (i.e. one UDP DNS packet with a single A query, and one UDP DNS packet with a single query). When glibc uses TCP, it puts both DNS queries into a single TCP DNS packet - the RFC refers to this as "pipelining" (https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc7766#section-6.2.1.1) and states that clients SHOULD do this, and that servers MUST expect to receive pipelined queries and SHOULD respond to all of them. (Technically pipelining can be separate DNS queries, one per TCP packet, but both using the same TCP connection - but the clear intention of pipelining is to improve TCP performance, and putting both DNS queries into a single TCP packet is clearly more performant than using separate TCP packets). Unfortunately, systemd's local stub resolver has only very basic support for TCP DNS, and it handles TCP DNS queries almost identically to UDP DNS queries - it reads the DNS query 2-byte header (containing the length of the query data), reads in the single DNS query data, performs lookup and sends a response to that DNS query, and closes the TCP connection. It does not check for "pipelined" queries in the TCP connection. That would be bad enough, as glibc is (rightly) expecting a response to both its A and queries; however what glibc gets is a TCP connection-reset error. That is because the local systemd stub resolver has closed its TCP socket while input data was still pending (i.e. it never even read the second pipelined DNS query). When the kernel sees unread input bytes in a TCP connection that is closed, it sends a TCP RST to the peer (i.e. glibc) and when the kernel sees the RST, it dumps all data in its socket buffer and passes the ECONNRESET error up to the application. So glibc gets nothing besides a connection reset error. Note also that even if the systemd local stub resolver's socket flushes its input buffer before closing the TCP connection (which will avoid the TCP RST), glibc still expects responses to both its A and queries before systemd closes the TCP connection, and so a simpl

Related to debian bug #773731 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to lvm2 in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1423796 Title: Unable to mount lvmcache root device at boot time Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Status in lvm2 package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: I'm experimenting with Vivid Vervet on a virtual machine and tried a new LVM feature, lvmcache. I made a cache for the root file system, rebuilt the initrd and rebooted the VM. At boot time, the system failed to activate the root LV. After some investigation, I found out, it's because the initrd is missing some essential stuff needed for activating a cached LV. The initrd was missing the dm-cache module. I regenerated the initrd with explicitly listing dm-cache in /etc/initramfs-tools/modules, but the system still can't boot up, because now it is missing the /usr/sbin/cache_check utility. As SSDs are becoming more and more common, I think it will be common to use them as cache for root file systems, thus it is mandatory to make sure that an initrd can mount an lvmcached root device when necessary, preferably without /etc/initramfs-tools/modules and other manual initrd hacking. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1799913] Re: Unhandled lockdown error (-2) - iphone ios 12
I have tested this on my Disco development machine, and here's what I found. Using an iPhone SE running IOS 12.1.2. Connected the phone using a real cable (using my third party cable only allowed me to charge). Without doing anything further I open Nautilus and browsed to the phone, and indeed I did see the error described... "unhandled lock down". However, on the phone itself I was being asked if I wanted to "Trust this computer". I said "Trust this computer" and was then asked to enter my PIN. Once I had done this I was able to browse the photos as expected. Could people reporting this problem please check that the iDevice has been told to trust the computer and comment here? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to libimobiledevice in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1799913 Title: Unhandled lockdown error (-2) - iphone ios 12 Status in libimobiledevice package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: Hi! [Touch-packages] [Bug 1814519] Re: USB port runs not stable, kayboard not stable, sound dosent work
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful to read "How to report bugs effectively" http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem. We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures. At a minimum, we need: 1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the problem. 2. The behavior you expected. 3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
