[Touch-packages] [Bug 1835660] Re: initramfs unpacking failed
I'm watching this error since about 10 months hoping that this would be fixed before the 20.04 release. Now we're almost 4 months past the release date and it's still there. Given that the fix is quite easy, I'm wondering why this is still an unresolved issue. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to initramfs-tools in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1835660 Title: initramfs unpacking failed Status in initramfs-tools package in Ubuntu: Invalid Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: "initramfs unpacking failed: Decoding failed", message appears on boot up. If I "update-initramfs" using gzip instead of lz, then boot up passes without decoding failed message. --- However, we currently believe that the decoding error reported in dmesg is actually harmless and has no impact on usability on the system. Switching from lz4 to gzip compression, simply papers over the warning, without any benefits, and slows down boot. Kernel should be fixed to correctly parse lz4 compressed initrds, or at least lower the warning, to not be user visible as an error. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1890332] Re: apt update fails on docker arm container 20.04
The root cause of the problem [is in libseccomp When][1]. The newer version fixes the problem, but it is not yet available in Debian's stable repos. There are two way to fix this problem: **Method 1** Start the container with `--privileged`. This bypasses docker's security measures, so it is not recommended. **Method 2** Upgrade libseccomp manually. Dowload version from unstable repos (I tested with 2.4.3-1) [here][2]. Uninstall the current version: `sudo dpkg --force-all -P libseccomp2` Install the new version: `sudo dpkg -i libseccomp2_2.4.3-1+b1_armhf.deb` [1]: https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/40734 [2]: https://packages.debian.org/sid/libseccomp2 ** Bug watch added: github.com/moby/moby/issues #40734 https://github.com/moby/moby/issues/40734 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apt in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890332 Title: apt update fails on docker arm container 20.04 Status in apt package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Running `apt update` in a ubuntu:20.04 docker container on raspberry pi fails with GPG errors. Please also try a different VGA cable if you can. ** Summary changed: - Screen corruption with multi monitor setup + VGA image is ghosted and stretched (LG L1953S) ** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => xorg-server (Ubuntu) ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890436 Title: VGA image is ghosted and stretched (LG L1953S) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: New Status in xorg-server package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: Hello, last week I was digging in the BIOS of my PC at work since I tried to see if there is a way to update the dbx for secure boot. Since there was no option to perform this task, I modified some settings. In detail, I disabled CSM in BIOS and that's when hell broke loose! To get an idea about the hardware, the Lenovo machine isn't running the latest BIOS as its updater is broken and won't update it within win or its ISO image. It uses the previous version released by its manufacturer. The machine has an XGA VGA monitor and a WQHD DP monitor. When CSM is enabled the DP monitor is lit first and then the VGA one prior OS loading. When CSM is disabled it goes the other way around. The VGA monitor is lit and the DP one opens up during OS load. With CSM disabled the VGA monitor is the primary one and it is corrupted as you can see on the pictures I have attached. Interestingly printing screens within Ubuntu does not capture the corruption problem I am getting as you can see on the pictures I have also attached. Neither X log contains anything useful. The issue is repeatable on every boot. As I have seen on other bug reports, I have enabled DRM debug, captured the dmesg using a huge buffer to get it and have uploaded it as well. I hope that it will help you track this issue down and fix it soon. Since I will be away some days for vacation, I will have physical access to it till this Friday and will get back to work at the 24th of August. In the mean time, I hope that someone will pinpoint the root cause of it and prepare a patch. Since this machine is running w10 2004, it should be noted that in win I do not get any corruption at all either in CSM mode or UEFI mode. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1890512] Re: bluetooth stopped working after recent apt updates
There have been no updates to the 'bluez' package since 20.04 was released. So that can't be the problem. Most likely it's a kernel update that caused the problem. The most recent one was only a week or two ago. Please try downgrading (or upgrading) your kernel version using these: https://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=M;O=D ** Package changed: bluez (Ubuntu) => linux (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to bluez in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890512 Title: bluetooth stopped working after recent apt updates Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: bluetooth stopped working after recent apt updates ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: bluez 5.53-0ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-42.46-generic 5.4.44 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-42-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu27.6 Architecture: amd64 CasperMD5CheckResult: skip CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Aug 6 06:20:29 2020 InstallationDate: Installed on 2020-03-02 (156 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 19.10 "Eoan Ermine" - Release amd64 (20191017) InterestingModules: bluetooth Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 002: ID 1058:25e1 Western Digital Technologies, Inc. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1890411] Re: Xorg crashes when starting gdm3. Bug in libgl1-mesa-dri.
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It sounds like some part of the system has crashed. To help us find the cause of the crash please follow these steps: 1. Look in /var/crash for crash files and if found run: ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash Then tell us the ID of the newly-created bug. 2. If step 1 failed then look at https://errors.ubuntu.com/user/ID where ID is the content of file /var/lib/whoopsie/whoopsie-id on the machine. Do you find any links to recent problems on that page? If so then please send the links to us. 3. If step 2 also failed then apply the workaround from bug 994921, reboot, reproduce the crash, and retry step 1. Please take care to avoid attaching .crash files to bugs as we are unable to process them as file attachments. It would also be a security risk for yourself. ** Tags added: bionic ** Also affects: mesa (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: mesa (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: xorg-server (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to mesa in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890411 Title: Xorg crashes when starting gdm3. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1861941] Re: bcache by-uuid links disappear after mounting bcache0
CURRENT STATUS: SUMMARY: BUG: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1861941 TESTCASE: https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/37KGy2Smnp/ PPA: https://launchpad.net/~rafaeldtinoco/+archive/ubuntu/lp1861941 BCACHE-TOOLS: GROOVY: https://tinyurl.com/yxonp5hz (merged) FOCAL: https://tinyurl.com/y3tbd3un (committed + verified) BIONIC: https://tinyurl.com/y58fm4l5 (being reviewed) SYSTEMD-UDEV: GROOVY: https://tinyurl.com/y4w22s57 (merged patch rewording, will wait next upload) FOCAL: https://tinyurl.com/y2uqbyll (merged patch, will ask for an upload - SRU) BIONIC: BEING WORKED KERNEL: Decided that won't be changed as the udev bcache changes won't cause any harm. Will ask for the patch to be dropped from groovy's kernel since there isn't any need to keep it. ** Description changed: + [Impact] + + * bcache-tools udev created symlinks might disappear when other udev + events are processed for the same devices. + + * after mkfs.XXX in /dev/bcacheY you might face a condition where + /dev/bcache/by-{uuid,label}/zzz symlinks are gone. + + * /dev/bcache/by-{uuid,label}/ symlinks are important so bcache devices + can be addressed by their UUIDs and not the ordering they were assembled + (MAAS depends on this feature, for example). + + * it was also discussed in this bug that systemd-udev should *not* + populate /dev/disk/by-uuid/ with symlinks of disks that were bcache + backing devices. this was turned into a discussion whether blkid should + report those or not, and this discussion "died" after sometime. + + [Test Case] + + * The reproducer script is here: + +https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/37KGy2Smnp/ + + [Regression Potential] + + * We are not depending on bcache device udev events any more when + creating the /dev/bcache/by-{uuid,label}/ symlinks. Instead, we are + depending on a wrapper script that heads bcache device superblock. If + there is a bug in this wrapper the symlinks wouldn't work. + + * Previously we were thinking in asking the kernel team to remove the + bcache udev event delta script they've done for previous case (LP: + #1729145). It creates the udev events that were being read and filling + the symlinks. We decided not to remove those (just from Groovy and on) + so we don't need to worry on Breaks/Conflicts in between the kernel + package and bcache-tools (and udev)). + + * Long story short: kernel will continue to emit bcache udev events as + it did previously but now those events won't be used by anything - after + installing this SRU - because udev wrapper script is doing this job (and + doing it properly) + + [Other Info] + + - Original Description: + + 1. root@ubuntu:~# lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Focal Fossa (development branch) Release: 20.04 - 2. + 2. root@ubuntu:~# lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu Focal Fossa (development branch) Release: 20.04 - root@ubuntu:~# apt-cache policy linux-image-virtual + root@ubuntu:~# apt-cache policy linux-image-virtual linux-image-virtual: - Installed: 5.4.0.12.15 - Candidate: 5.4.0.12.15 - Version table: - *** 5.4.0.12.15 500 - 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages - 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status - root@ubuntu:~# apt-cache policy linux-image-5.4.0-12-generic + Installed: 5.4.0.12.15 + Candidate: 5.4.0.12.15 + Version table: + *** 5.4.0.12.15 500 + 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages + 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status + root@ubuntu:~# apt-cache policy linux-image-5.4.0-12-generic linux-image-5.4.0-12-generic: - Installed: 5.4.0-12.15 - Candidate: 5.4.0-12.15 - Version table: - *** 5.4.0-12.15 500 - 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages - 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status + Installed: 5.4.0-12.15 + Candidate: 5.4.0-12.15 + Version table: + *** 5.4.0-12.15 500 + 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu focal/main amd64 Packages + 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 3. mount /dev/bcache0 && ls -al /dev/bcache/by-uuid/ + ls -al /dev/bcache/by-uuid/ total 0 drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 60 Feb 4 23:31 . drwxr-xr-x 3 root root 60 Feb 4 23:31 .. lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 13 Feb 4 23:31 abdfd1f6-44ce-4266-91db-24667b9ae51a -> ../../bcache0 4. root@ubuntu:~# ls -al /dev/bcache/by-uuid ls: cannot access '/dev/bcache/by-uuid': No such file or directory ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 20.04 Package: linux-image-5.4.0-12-generic 5.4.0-12.15 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 5.4.0-12.15-generic 5.4.8 Uname: Linux 5.4.0-12-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.11-0ubuntu16 Architecture: amd64 Date: Tue Feb 4 23:31:52 2020 ProcEnviron: - TERM=xterm-256color - PATH=(custom, no user) - LANG=C.UTF-8 - SHELL=/bin/bash + TERM=xterm-256color + PATH=(custom, no user) + LANG=C.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash SourcePackage: linux-signed-5.4 UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Description changed:

The current audio stack (pulseaudio + alsa-ucm-conf + alsa-lib) doesn't support this design yet, it could support all audio devices on the codec well, but it doesn't support that dmic well. In the gnome-control-center, the dmic becomes two input devices: analog input and multichannel input, and users can only record sound from analog input, the multichannel input can't function at all. Besides this issue, there is another issue, after users plug an external mic, the external mic can't replace the dmic automatically, this gives users a bad experience since this behaviour is different from the other audio designs. ** Branch linked: lp:~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu/groovy/apport/ubuntu -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to apport in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1877023 Title: Unhandled exception in check_ignored() Status in Apport: New Status in apport package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: Hi, I have found a security issue on apport 2.20.11 and earlier. ## Vulnerability apport 2.20.11 and earlier have an unhandled exception vulnerability during parsing apport-ignore.xml. An attacker can cause a denial of service (i.e., application crash) via a crafted apport-ignore.xml file. ## Description Reports can be suppressed by blacklisting in apport-ignore.xml. This is an example of apport-ignore.xml Unfortunately, it may cause an unhandled exception when 'mtime' attribute is specified as a string value, not a number like this. It may disrupt apport service and allow an attacker to potentially enable a denial of service via local access. The flaw lies in improper exception handling of 'mtime' attribute in apport-ignore.xml (see https://git.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apport/tree/apport/report.py?h=applied/ubuntu/devel#n1104). ## Log Here is /var/log/apport.log when the above exception occurs. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1890448] [NEW] hwdb: Add EliteBook to use micmute hotkey
Public bug reported: [Impact] Micmute hotkey on many HP EliteBooks don't work. [Fix] Commit b6eb208b29ae ("hwdb: Add EliteBook to use micmute hotkey"), to map AT keyboard's scancode to micmute hotkey. [Test] With the one-liner fix, micmute hotkey works on all the EliteBooks I tested. [Regression Potential] The hwdb originally only matches a few EliteBook, and fix changes that to match all EliteBook models. So if there's an EliteBook that uses the scancode for other purpose, there will be a regression. However, the risk is rather slim because HP is confident that all EliteBooks use the same scancode for mic mute hotkey. ** Affects: hwe-next Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Affects: systemd (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: oem-priority originate-from-1883044 stella ** Tags added: oem-priority originate-from-1883044 stella -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to systemd in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890448 Title: hwdb: Add EliteBook to use micmute hotkey Status in HWE Next: New Status in systemd package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: [Impact] Micmute hotkey on many HP EliteBooks don't work. --- Comment From s...@de.ibm.com 2020-08-05 09:16 EDT--- Hi xnox, have you had the chance to retest flatpak-builder autopkgtests with an adjusted flatpak package like mentioned in my previous comment? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to make-dfsg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1886814 Title: posix_spawn usage in gnu make causes failures on s390x Status in Ubuntu on IBM z Systems: Triaged Status in glibc package in Ubuntu: New Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Status in make-dfsg package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: posix_spawn usage in gnu make causes failures on s390x Recently in gnu-make v4.3 https://paste.ubuntu.com/p/tYhbJFKN76/ it started to use posix_spawn, instead of fork()/exec(). This has caused failure of an unrelated package flatpak-builder autopkgtests on s390x only, like so echo Building make: echo: Operation not permitted make: *** [Makefile:2: all] Error 127 Julian Klaude investigated this in-depth. His earlier research also indicated that this is a heisenbug, if one tries to print to stderr before printing to stdout, no issue occurs. We are configuring GNU make to be build with --disable-posix-spawn on s390x only. We passed these details to Debian https://bugs.debian.org /cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=964541 too. But I do wonder, if there is something different or incorrect about posix_spawn() implementation in either glibc, or linux kernel, on s390x. Or gnu-make's usage of posix_spawn(). As otherise, using posix_spawn() in gnu-make works on other architectures, and flatpak-builder autopkgtests pass too. It seems very weird that stdout does not appear to be functional, unless stderr was opened/written to, from gnu-make execution compiled with posix-spawn feature. I did not research what original commit introduced the problem, but the reporter indicates this did not happen for Xenial so it's unlikely this is a problem in Xenial or earlier. [original description] This is a serious regression with systemd-networkd that I ran in to while setting up a NAT router in AWS. The AWS AMI ubuntu/images/hvm- ssd/ubuntu-bionic-18.04-amd64-server-20200131 with systemd-237-3ubuntu10.33 does NOT have the problem, but the next most recent AWS AMI ubuntu/images/hvm-ssd/ubuntu- bionic-18.04-amd64-server-20200311 with systemd-including 237-3ubuntu10.39 does. Also, a system booted from the (good) 20200131 AMI starts showing the problem after updating only systemd (to 237-3ubuntu10.41) and its direct dependencies (e.g. 'apt-get install systemd'). So I'm fairly confident that a change to the systemd package between 237-3ubuntu10.33 and 237-3ubuntu10.39 introduced the problem and it is still present. On the NAT router I use three interfaces and have separate routing tables for admin and forwarded traffic. Things come up fine initially but every 30-60 minutes (DHCP lease renewal time?) one or more interfaces is reconfigured and most of the time systemd-networkd will crash and need to be restarted. Eventually the system becomes unreachable when the default crash loop backoff logic prevents the network service from being restarted at all. The log excerpt attached illustrates the crash loop. Also including the netplan and networkd config files below. # grep . /etc/netplan/* /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:# This file is generated from information provided by the datasource. Changes /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:# to it will not persist across an instance reboot. To disable cloud-init's /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:# network configuration capabilities, write a file /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:# /etc/cloud/cloud.cfg.d/99-disable-network-config.cfg with the following: /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:# network: {config: disabled} /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:network: /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:version: 2 /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:ethernets: /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:ens5: /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:dhcp4: true /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:match: /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:macaddress: xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx /etc/netplan/50-cloud-init.yaml:set-name: ens5 /etc/netplan/99_config.yaml:network: /etc/netplan/99_config.yaml: version: 2 /etc/netplan/99_config.yaml: renderer: networkd /etc/netplan/99_config.yaml: ethernets: /etc/netplan/99_config.yaml:ens6: /etc/netplan/99_config.yaml: mat

On arm64, __NR__sysctl is not defined, so the build now fails, e.g.: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/486997294/buildlog_ubuntu-bionic-arm64.systemd_237-3ubuntu10.42~202007031245~ubuntu18.04.1_BUILDING.txt.gz ../src/test/test-seccomp.c: In function ‘test_protect_sysctl’: ../src/test/test-seccomp.c:251:5: error: "__NR__sysctl" is not defined, evaluates to 0 [-Werror=undef] #if __NR__sysctl > 0 ^~~~ [test case] build systemd on bionic with latest packages (i.e. with latest libseccomp2 package) [regression potential] this adds a defined() check before comparing the __NR__sysctl value, so any regression would be limited to the specific function test_protect_sysctl() which is part of the test framework, thus leading to a failed build or incorrectly passed/failed test. [scope] this is needed only in Bionic. This is fixed upstream by commit 4df8fe8415eaf4abd5b93c3447452547c6ea9e5f which is included in v244 and later, so this is fixed already for Focal and later. Xenial does not include the __NR__sysctl check so does not need this patch. [Touch-packages] [Bug 1890384] Re: Xorg crash
** Package changed: xorg (Ubuntu) => ubuntu ** Changed in: ubuntu Status: New => Incomplete ** Summary changed: - Xorg crash + Crash -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Touch seeded packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1890384 Title: Crash Status in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: ls -l /var/crash backport-iwlwifi-dkms.0.crash _opt_google_chrome_chrome.1000.crash _usr_bin_gnome-control-center.1000.crash ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+19ubuntu7.1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-111.112-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-111-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.16 Architecture: amd64 BootLog: Error: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/var/log/boot.log' CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Wed Aug 5 09:12:04 2020 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: backport-iwlwifi, 7906: added rtl8812au, 5.6.4.2~ppa: added ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, if not too technical GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation HD Graphics 510 [8086:1902] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc.
