Tracker runs for several minutes and slows things down appreciably on
both 14.04 and 14.10. In addition, a crash log is being generated on
every boot with the same message:

It seems to involve ppp as well. I can still install updates, but I get
the 'restart now' message for each and every update.

I've been getting no sound from time to time when booting up. In
Settings/Sound there is only a Dummy Output available. Looging out and
in restores the internal and external speakers in the list but they
still have no output. Rebooting usually solves the problem.

For anyone else who is a bit crazed about this bug, I can recommend Aptik to
backup and restore your applications, settings and documents. It's safe to do a
fresh installation and it's dead easy to use, but you need some kind of
external backup hardware.
It's a long process to restore
I installed Aptik from the ppa's and have done a complete mirror of my
applications and settings. At this point I'm seriously considering a
clean re-installation. Do you think it to be the best solution under the
circumstances? I can't run VirtualBox any more along with the
applications listed in

I had the same issue upgrading, but was able to force restart and fix
everything afterwards with Synaptic. It took a few reboots and Bleachbit
to get rid of the apport errors, but all is well now. It isn't my work
computer.

i started the update my Lubuntu version to the latest version i waited
for the update to finish while i was doing a few other things.. i had
to get done to not disturb the computer... after the auto-restart .. i
went to the power menu to shut down .. both that and the reboot

command is a rather primitive workaround (and this after 6 months): ping
91.189.89.115 -i 15 -s 28 .

be fixed (latest 16.10 patches). Not sure when that fix went in but I
tried it in testing.

nameserver to 127.0.0.53 systemd-resolver starts working again. However
everytime that a wifi network connects or disconnects, it switches back

I have been having an issue like this for a little over a week now.
Oddly coinciding with when one of my ram sticks crapped out it could be
that for whatever reason my previous ram total of 4gb was compensating
and the problem could be older than i am aware of, in any case it seems

into the Unity8 desktop session from LightDM, the lockscreen is shown,
ie, the Hello Box o' Doom. Once this is shown, there is no way to get

When trying to login to Unity 8 on the desktop and specifically, the
Unity Desktop Next Live session, the unity-greeter will not accept an
empty password, so logging in is not possible.

mouse pointer over some text, I pressed the left mouse button and
dragged. Nothing happened. No text was selected.
