Could you test 17.10 live image? It comes with 17.2.2 and should work, then upgrading to artful-proposed should break it again since it has 17.2.4. Looks like Intel gen4 & 5 regressed, everything newer seems to work fine which is why testing didn't catch this. There is a newer upstream version
