elodie is correct about the code (00:02.0) and that it still does not work
... @GustavoCM you mention that we may also have to change the f4 parameter.
I've been searching online and I don't really understand what this parameter
does in the command.
After installing the packages and running sudo apt-get update, I didn't get
any more resolution options under display. :/
Any more suggestions?
The brightness is fixed at 100%. This is a limation in the native graphics
code, but I suspect it will added in the future.

in coreboot)

Ok, thanks for the clarification.
Let us first check that the radeon driver really is in use. Could you
attach the file /var/log/Xorg.0.log to a post?
Did you reboot into the new kernel?uname -r
Where do I find that file? I apologize for my lack of knowledge... I really
do want to get used to this distro of GNU/Linux, though.
I used xrandr and got this

If anyone has luck with other sites please post them in this thread.
According to 'xrandr', your current resolution, 1024x768, is the maximum one.
But again, that may be due to some kind of issue (although it can also be due
to a lack of support for your card in the kernel; the component that includes
the drivers and makes the interface between the hardware
Try to compress it first. From the graphical file browser, you can
right-click on the file Xorg.0.log and choose, in the contextual menu that

That's a great site, thanks for the link! My lawn looked much better two

How about installing ssh and samba services, but leaving them disabled? Same
for cups, if there's a security hole caused by having it enabled by default.
Maybe the live installer can have a 'services' page where the user can select

I don't know about other Gecko-based browsers, but Firefox and its

it did work but i want to keep my Trisquel free. Can someone please give me a

I am running tha latest linux-libre kernel which is 3.13.5. Can someone
please give me a modified script for it?
This does look rather complicated. I just followed the instructions in this
thread to update the (blob-free) kernel and that solved the problem:

(See the post by malberts giving the 5 exact commands. This is for a 64-bit

I think that there is a very basic misunderstanding here. I would like to
address some very specific items. Please don't take these as personal attacks
as I don't even know you so I have nothing against you.

I'm trying to do this, and when I attempt to edit the sources.list file, it
denies me permission.
I'm surprised more of you haven't commented on this yet as it is a HUGE deal
with an impending deadline. The majority of comments at

Thank you, I'm really eager to get into GNU+Linux. I'm not entirely a free
software advocate (I still like Windows for some things) but I believe that
free software is important.
I compressed and attacked the Xorg log in a tar.gz format.
First, try rebooting and run
uname -r
It should give 3.11.0-xx-generic. (xx is probably 15 or 17) If it doesn't you
didn't install the kernel properly.
If you used the generic kernel from Trisquel's repository and it worked, it
is completely free. So there's no need to use the libre kernel from jxself's
repository.
That's not the issue. I can't even edit the source list file. It doesn't let
me have permission.
Newbies don't tend to use ssh. And if they did, they could easily apt-get
install ssh-server.
One reason that this is so serious, is that by implying during the
installation that an SSH server will not be installed, users won't
necessarily choose secure passwords for their user accounts.
The SSH server that is installed will allow access to anyone who has a valid
username and
I can't tell if you're saying we shouldn't do this or we don't need to
worry about getting sued, so I'll answer both.
Actually I was writing about how you should not do that out of decency. I
couldn't care less if you get sued or not. It might sound cold, but apart
from people who do get
Yes, but how do I guess the number? Shouldn't there be a welcome page that
points out to the latest package? With a changelog maybe.
Probably the lack of a gui to recursively rename files is because is a
potentially dangerous task you have to think twice before you do.
Hahaha
I like your agument. It might convince a lot of people.
This way audio chat support in Pidgin was a dangerous idea. Or video. You're
cute.
Attention before trying, GustavoCM has no idea.
Attention before trying, muhammed has no idea.
Yes, the thread is infested with people that have no idea and no such
hardware. But that's a problem with any public forum.
Interesting, openssh-server, winbind and samba are required both by trisquel
and trisquel-base.
From a security standpoint, anything that is not used is a potential
vulnerability. I am using a browser and my need for it outweights the issues
arising from my usage. I don't do FTP, so having a FTP client around might
mean something sometime, beyond the wasted space and bandwidth -- the
A very smart thing to do. But I have my doubts it will ever work. The flight
industry is worse than the movie makers. And their only policy I know of is
obscurity. Now security through obscurity...
It would be nice to mention they are not so free software. They are a weak
open source product. Their licence[1] is LGPL[2].
Far better options would be Avidemux[3], Blender[4], Cinelerra[5],
Kdenlive[6], Lives[7], Open Shot Video Editor[8]. All available on Linux,
most on Windows too. And
You are highly mistaken.
The lgpl is a fsf approved free software licence which can be read in the
wikipedia link you provided.
Beside of this, sharelatex doesn't use the lgpl but the agpl:

which is also a fsf approved free software
Have you tried installing the Resolution Switcher? Its in Add/Remove
Applications, just search for resolution it should show. It installs a
resolution switcher icon in the notification area. Just click the icon and
select your resolution. Worth a try I think.
lloydsmart,
You have summed up what I've been driving at nicely. That is the ONE and ONLY
reason I even started this topic. The user simply is not made aware that an
SSH server will be running on their system.
Uh... you did see the name of the GNU LGPL, right? Notice GNU? It was
written by the FSF for the GNU Project. It's a free software license. It's
the GNU GPL, but with the copyleft restrictions weakened for strategic
purposes. It makes no sense for PiTiVi or any other program that isn't a
I didnt use the trisquel's kernel, i used the one that you can download from
https://www.kernel.org/. Making my trisquel not free... But now im on a
fresh install with the latest linux-libre kernel (3.13.5) and i would like to
patch it so i can use my touchpad. Thank you for your answers.
uname -r will confirm whether or not you are running a kernel with version
3.11 or later. If you are then you probably don't need to update the kernel
(I am on 3.12.7 though). If not, then you need to put sudo before each
command to give you admininstrator permissions.

I am looking at the laptops that have Trisquel installed recently. Seems like
the gluglug x60 is a good choice for me to discover the Linux and free

I've had one for almost two years. The performance is great and I have
absolutely no regrets. Plus, as a ThinkPad, the durability can't be beat.
What are you looking forward on doing on your Trisquel laptop?
Those are but metapackages, feel free to remove them.
Sharelatex? Pitivi!
I thought about this as well. If somebody doesn't understand what this is all
about, read
