Re: [Trisquel-users] Is there a way to get a LUKS keyfile in initrd.img/initramfs, with jxself's kernel?
After entering my LUKS password on the Libreboot GRUB screen; the boot process starts, but hangs within about one second with that error message.

At what point do you get that message

[Trisquel-users] Re : Richard Stallman no Brasil e na Argentina
Again, the English version follows. English version: I should have waited a little more before posting: I have just received news, including two other talks in Brasília, Brazil: The talk on May 31st, at 4pm in Campinas will be "Your Freedom as a User of Computers and Cell Phones"; On June 17th in Brasília, Stallman will deliver a talk to the sole attendants of the "Campus Party"; On June 19th in Brasília, in the University of Brasília, the talk will be, this time, opened to the public.
Re: [Trisquel-users] How do you get your books?
I don't think the punishment fits the crime for a lot of things. Nor should some things even be considered crime in the first place.
Re: [Trisquel-users] how much of the source code is disclosed about the firefly rk3399 computer?
Ah, this is good to know. Then screw paying arm 150k euros. heh.
Re: [Trisquel-users] microsoft against surveillance, they say
Fair point, I said the wrong country, I meant ireland, I just got confused. ;P Although, this I am sure you could tell was pure mockery of malwaresoft. I called it microshifty, also because they are always hiding something within their software. ;/ oh well. Good thing Richard Stallman made GNU and the standards of free software. Good way to fight corrupt software companies. Whatever differences we may have, he is very ethical when it comes to software/hardware.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Can you vote to me as a speaker
THNX for you all I Succeeded in being a speaker
Re: [Trisquel-users] microsoft against surveillance, they say
The funny thing is, I think the poll would show 50% believe it, and the sad thing being most don't care.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel 7 to bootable usb stick
The GNU dd command line you posted is right (that is: "of=" must target the whole device because the disk image file was made in such way to be used in that place). The "destroyed partition" is expected, it's only understood during boot. Try booting the "destroyed partition", it should work. - "WhatsApp"? Also, not specific to Libreboot, there is [[https://h-node.org/]], which also has a guide on how to get information about various hardware parts, see [[https://h-node.org/wiki/page/en/Discover-your-hardware]]. Also, perhaps you can talk to people at h-node so as to extend things in the way you just suggested because, currently, there is a question that the tester has to answer in regards to the computer being added, which asks: "does it have a free boot firmware (BIOS,UEFI,...) ?". - "WhatsApp"? I'll try talking to my parents and also to course coordinators in the college where I study so as to try to go to the event in Curitiba, June 2nd. I can't guarantee anything though. :) I would also love to hear if there is a caravan going to Curitiba which passes through cities such as Itajaí, Balneário Camboriú, or Itapema. - "WhatsApp"? [Trisquel-users] Richard Stallman no Brasil e na Argentina
The English version of this post follows the Portuguese one (sorry for the spam for those of you who do not live in South America). Porém, a maior contribuição dele é filosófica. English version: Richard Stallman needs no introduction... but here is one anyway! Richard Stallman is the author of the GNU GPL, founded the Free Software Foundation, and started the development of the GNU operating system (including GNU Emacs, GCC, the coreutils, etc.), which we and tens of millions of GNU/Linux users love. However, his main contribution is philosophical. He is the father of the Free Software Movement. He identified four freedoms that each one of us deserves to be in control of her computing. Stallman now dedicates most of his life to advocacy. In particular, he travels the whole world to eloquently spread awareness about the Free Software Movement, its ethical foundations and its social and political necessity. Richard Stallman will deliver eight talks in Brazil and Argentina, starting with "A Free Digital Society" in Belo Horizonte on May 29th. Here is the whole list: May 29th, 2pm in Belo Horizonte, Brazil: "A Free Digital Society" (talk in English with simultaneous translation in Portuguese, using 300 headsets) in the Auditório Nobre (640 seats) of the CAD1 building in the Pampulha campus of the UFMG; May 31st, 4pm in Campinas, Brazil: in the room CB-06 of the Ciclo Básico I (antigo) of the Universidade Estadual de Campinas; June 2nd, 6pm in Curitiba, Brazil: "Free Software and Your Freedom" in the Auditório Professor Ulysses de Campos in the Applied Social Sciences Sector of the UFPR; June 5th, in Buenos Aires, Argentina: "Tu Libertad en el Uso de Computadoras y Telefonos" (talk in Spanish), precise location and time to be determined; June 7th, 5pm in Santa Fe, Argentina: "El Software Libre y tu Libertad" (talk in Spanish), in the Rectorado of the Universidad Nacional del Litoral; June 9th, 5pm in Buenos Aires, Argentina: "Copyright vs Comunidad" (talk in Spanish), precise location to be determined; June 12th, 5pm in San Salvador de Jujuy, Argentina: "Copyright vs Comunidad" (talk in Spanish) in the Anfiteatro of the Facultad de Ingenieria of the Universidad Nacional de Jujuy; June 13th, 6pm in Salta, Argentina: "El Software Libre y tu Libertad" (talk in Spanish) in the Universidad Nacional de Salta, precise location to be determined. Stallman will be selling items to the benefit of the Free Software Foundation: please bring cash.
Re: [Trisquel-users] microsoft against surveillance, they say
I consider what microsoft is saying a mockery. I do want to know the result of a poll asking people if they believe them.
Re: [Trisquel-users] how much of the source code is disclosed about the firefly rk3399 computer?
Lkcl cannot use the rk3399 because he does not have the full schematics. He is not going to take steps to get the source code for a mali gpu. One reason is, that new mali gpus occur requiring new reverse engineerings. Another reason is, lkcl knows a person, who got mistreated by arm because the person wanted to reverse engineer a mali gpu.

Re: [Trisquel-users] microsoft against surveillance, they say
CalmStorm Well, I believe climate change is real and caused by mankind. But Unicorns in multi-colors or pink are from Gaylandia Universe. Leprechauns are from Scotland?, why Scotland and not Ireland?.. Um, let me think on this one, Scottish people want independence from England right? and from the Leprechauns in Scotland, correct me if I'm wrong.
Re: [Trisquel-users] I think openmailbox is on the verge of death
This happens occasionally, it's natural considering that everyone, by using email addresses provided by someone else (be it Hotmail, Gmail, OpenMailBox, Posteo, and so on) agrees to take the risk of experiencing downtimes. The case of OpenMailBox is natural *and must be expected* unless you self-host your email *or* use BitMessage. What is not expected is: a bunch of people freaking out and leaving/cancelling their accounts in OpenMailBox just because it got some month of trouble. Thanks to this mass leaving, those who already support OpenMailBox will now have to work on the double to help the service survive. - "WhatsApp"? It's working for me. The reliability of their service isn't exactly the best at times, that's for sure...
Re: [Trisquel-users] microsoft against surveillance, they say
Oh I believe Microshifty is absolutely telling the truth, just as much as I believe climate change isn't caused by mankind and just as much as I believe chemtrails are real and that unicorns and leprechauns are everywhere in Scotland. ;/

maybe it already is dead even... I cannot connect to the cloud nor the webmail or the website for that matter. what a pity... -_-
Re: [Trisquel-users] Trisquel linux on Raspberry Pi 3
according to https://wiki.debian.org/RaspberryPi : "A binary blob used by the GPU must be present on the SD card for the system to boot." "Debian armhf will work (with a custom kernel)." My understanding of this is the fully free armhf version does not work out of the box. You have to include proprietary software to be able to boot the Pi. Please correct me if I'm wrong. Raspbian provided by the Raspberry Pi Foundation is basically Debain + 2MB huge binary bloob necessary to start + additional non-free software including Oracle Java and Wolfram Mathematica. The Raspberry Pi is invitingly cheap but in terms of freedom it sadly comes off badly. Here https://www.fsf.org/resources/hw/single-board-computers you can find a rating of some single-board computers concerning freedom. I'd recommend you the Beaglebone Black. As far as I know you can run this device with only free software. The only downside of this board is the "low" computing power compared to a new Rasperry Pi.

This reminds me of: #+BEGIN_QUOTE While sometimes corporations are on our side [...] [and] stand up for the public's interest [...] We should not have to rely on them. --- Edward Snowden, from [[https://media.libreplanet.org/u/libreplanet/m/libreplanet-2016-the-last-lighthouse-3d51/]] #+END_QUOTE Also, the same talk by Snowden and Gillmore talks a bit about Windows 10, where the operating system no longer works for the user, but "the user works" for it. #+BEGIN_QUOTE So instead of focusing on the company as such we should focus on the activity itself; we should think about "Free Software business activities", "Free Software business offers", and such. --- Matthias Kirschner, from [[https://k7r.eu/there-is-no-free-software-company-but/]] #+END_QUOTE I also put both citations in my recent talk about free/libre software during the Festival Latino-americano de Instalação de Software Livre (FLISoL) 2017 that I organized an edition locally in Balneário Camboriú. Re: [Trisquel-users] microsoft against surveillance, they say
We should indeed not trust Microsoft to have the user's best interests in mind, but the message they've given is a good and valid one. The key here is to make sure we don't settle for anything less than we expect, and certainly no less than the now (weakly) reformed company has suggested we do. That, of course, means we must not let them make only the easiest contributions to freedom (or source exposure, as is often the case) in exchange for hypocritically maintaining the most profitable immorality. A few pawns make nice ornaments, but freedom rests on the game.
