Trisquel's icon theme is the problem. An easy workaround is to change that
theme. To easily do so, install "GNOME Tweak Tool" (the package bears the
same name), launch it and, in Appearance, select another theme for "Icons".
If you like Trisquel's, choose "Gnome-brave", which is very
That is because Windows' kernel sends the (proprietary) firmware to the Wifi
card and it survives the reboot (the power supply does not stop)... but that
is still proprietary software you run: bad for your freedoms!
It is actually a solution (but specify the password used to decrypt your home
folder). Now if you prefer to stick to Trisquel 7, you can reset your
password too. That involves booting a live system (e.g., the Trisquel 8 live
system), a 'sudo chroot' in the installed root partition and
As Fildas is based on 16.04 where unity is supported, I would still like to
use it. Additionally, Unity worked great in the previous version which was
based on 14.04.
Just need to forget the Unity shell which Ubuntu now defaults to GNOME shell
and has abandoned Unity shell since their 17.10.
Hasn't Unity been discontinued by Canonical in favor of GNOME?I installed

I just installed Unity and have the same experience. I have submitted a bug
report.
Here you can see both the cosmetic issues with nautilus (which seem to be
with many applications but also goes away if I change the theme) and the
missing unity components.
> Hasn't Unity been discontinued by Canonical in favor of GNOME?
Unity is deprecated as of 18.04, Fildas is based on 16.04 which still has
Unity.
The scaling in nautilus is that everything seems too large, and the icon
sizes are inconsistant (some appearing larger than others). The issue

with an offer to upgrade to Flidas ... I agreed, and followed all the various

Didn't get to it 'til much later, but I cloned a website of mine ... no
difficulties, no errors ... 100+ files, ca. 50 MB
in half an hour.
The graphical version ... be sure to create a folder on your HDD beforehand
and use the complete path to that file as the
target folder for HTTrack.

By scaling do you mean
Recommend thinkpenguin or technoethical for the wifi dongle :) they give back
to the trisquel community in technical support and funding.
do you need or want any more help with your new operating system?
getting into the BIOS the first time around can be a real pain, glad you

Hi everyone :)
Trisquel 8 was recently released. This is an announcement to let everyone
know: Minifree's FSF-endorsed Libreboot-preinstalled laptops now have
Trisquel 8 instead of 7.
This comes alongside our recent heavy price cuts, for all products:
thanks ;)
I'm not sure if this will help at all, but on a laptop that I used to have,
if I had TURNED OFF WiFi while logged into MSWindows, upon rebooting into
Linux, I was completely unable to TURN ON WiFi at all in Linux until booting
back into MSWindows and turning it on there (and rebooting once

indicators on the top panel are missing (no clock, network, sound icons etc).

Hi I'm just downloading Trisquel 8 Flidas.
But when I try to get some sort of verification of the ISO, I get: 404 Not
Found.
That on the pages below:

In case the other answers didn't make this clear, this is not a bug in
Trisquel. The problem is that your WiFi card requires proprietary[1] firmware,
so it will not work with any freedom-respecting distro.

There was a long thread here a while back in which someone used tcpdump to test
many browsers for automatic connections. As I recall, all Firefox derivatives
they tested, including Waterfox, made some automatic connections without user
knowledge. At the time, I tested Abrowser and found the
I recommend this product:

Your PC has two USB 3 ports and your USB 2 ports, so I think you're likely to
have a USB port available for use.
You may want to also take a loot at the other networking
Congratulations for the release of Trisquel 8 "Flidas"! :D A big thank you to
everyone who contributed to making this release possible, and of course
especially to quidam. Thanks a lot! :)
...download Triskiello 6...
That would be telling, but I found Taranis.
https://archive.org/download/Trisquel4.0.1LtsTaranis/trisquel-i18n_4.0.1_amd64.iso
Congrats and cheers!
*btw, does anyone know where can I download Triskiello 6? 8 is just too much
modern for my taste. :P
I'm using wpa_supplicant but wicd was very suitable.
Si Ciao!
BUONANOTTE!!
Hi. I have a question about abrowser: has it removed the telemetry, data
collection and Encrypted Media Extensions, as it is done in the waterfox
browser?
I have Trisquel 7 running on a Lenovo Thinkpad X200 that I got from Vikings.
Is it safe for me to upgrade to Trisquel 8? Is there any software that could
end up breaking or stop working as a result of this upgrade?
What are the advantages of upgrading to Flidas from Belenos?
Thanks!
Congratulations on suggesting the name that got picked!
No idea.
Use nmtui and ncli instead ;-)
Trisquel 8 has been released now. There's no need to be using the Release
Candidates when you can use the real actual final version. Long live
Trisquel.
Be sure you're not just trying to browse the target domain without first
capturing it with WebHTTrack.
See the step-by-step instructions here:

That's what has worked several times for me over the last couple of years.
I'll
try it again this morning,

Magic Banana is clairvoyant as usual ...
"Yes: delete all the partitions that you do not need anymore and enlarge the
partitions adjacent to
them (in particular those containing data; the system does *not* require
hundreds of GB)."
Already did that ... works great ... plus, it was
Ylu need a dongle or a router that has wifi and an Ethernet port.
As I see here:
https://h-node.org/wifi/view/en/1934/Intel-Corporation-Dual-Band-Wireless-AC-3160
This device is confirmed not working. The only way seems to buy a USB WIFI
device compatible with 100% free software.
You can't find me under "Donations" but I've donated a couple of times.
Long Live Trisquel!
Thank you very much.
do-release-upgrade worked.
On Flidas :-)
Tried the latest V8 on my LG i5 AIO and it is great except no wifi networking
is possible. This network is listed as Intel Wireless 3160. This is the only
method I have to connect so unless I can download and install whatever is
needed using another machine, I cannot run Trisquel on this
cALMSTORM
To be able to complain, is an art form of speech to me, but for someone to be
indicating, insinuating or perpetrating hes personal narrative is just a
monologue conversation..
Just upgrade and shut up and be happy is freaking free.!
LOL
Amen to that!
As for laptops, I can vouch for the aforementioned and well-known Vikings
store. The x200 I bought from them works flawlessly with free software and I
am currently running Parabola on it.
If you check out the libreboot website, you will find a few laptops that can
be flashed using software
Dear Jxself
First, thanks for the work on new long-awaited Trisquel 8.
Well, as an old Apple user and a quite active person on the french forum,
there is not such a gap between Ruben an I than I had with Steve Jobs.
I can't see myself the other way than as a member of an association.
I read
ACC Academic Computer Club at UmeƄ University Sweden has a mirror that has
been updated to include Trisquel 8.
