Anyway what your exact model of laptop?
Then again I'm fairly sure the problem is only with the current user as well
:)
Yeah, though I don't think the lack of libre-addons-only page fro Chromium
should be used against it since should it be made fully, verifiably free, and
enter trisquel's repos (and Parabola's), it shouldn't be long before such an
addons page appears.
I'm pretty sure the tolerance is one of the exact reasons this thread was
started, actually.
What about those with metal-chassis laptops?
You may have to go with a USB wifi adapter as HP uses digital restrictions to

Wellm, Chris did say that just in case.
Anyway, to repeat what he said, you need a full-sized mini-PCIe card.

Is trisquel-base installed (I think that particular metapackage takes care of
dragging sound packages towards being installed on your system)?
I suggest installing trisquel-base (it's the cheapest, albeit a slightly
inefficient in terms of number of packages installed, way to make sure things
go well on the computer (i.e. Archive-opening, sound-playing, etc).
It suggested posfix configuration during the install.
You could've just selected No configuration.now if I'm not mistaken
that may have left quite a few packages unconfigured. You may end up getting
asked to dosudo dpkg --configure -a by Synaptic/APT(in which case you should
just do
or pick the dependencies one by one whenever I have an issue. Even if you
go down that route I doubt you'll really have to pick the dependencies

And rather than trying Arch I think you should try Parabola instead. It's
Libre Arch, basically.
If you try to add an applet using what is described in

If it does, is thee a keyboard layout applet you can choose?
Thanks.
I'm a bit concerned though about the fonts installed by default that don't
come with otf, or ttf or font in their package names.
Any such things?
Screenshot?
What are the names of the font packages installed by default in Trisquel's
LiveCD? (I always debootstrap and there seems to neither be an Ubuntu nor
Trisquel default font metapackage, apart from Ubuntu Studio's which seems to
ask for non-free fonts).
What desktop shell are you using?
Have you tried changing he theme using lxappearance (and maybe installing the
package from Sysnaptic as well instead of simply copying from the CD, since
installing the package means that whatever packages the theme depend on will
be installed as well)?
I may be wrong but I don't thinm Synaptic's to be blamed at all here.
Anyway, do you use Synaptic by su-ing and then entering su to the command as
root. If so, try using lxappearance as root.
Wait, I'm pretty sure Trisquel mini came with policykit-1-gnome installed.
What got it removed?
1. Open terminal
2. sudo su -c passwd
3. Enter password
4. Use root account.
A tad off-topic but since this thread hasn't gone too dead, old, cold yet and
my question isn't too far off-topic.

I don't think that's really the problem though, considering that Todd's qutes
regarding impossible-ness are, at the end of the day, correct. I think he's
correct about that part.
It's just that, when the least vague description of his attempts at freeing

the fact that an assertion from a known figure is formatted as a “quote”

Exactly the case here.

such a thing.
How is it working now (looking to get an Nvidia card myself)
A Processor and an AMD GPU a free-software-friendly computer does not make.
What about an AMD Processor + an Nvidia GPU (old enough not to ask for signed
firmware images - which isn't overly old if I'm not mistaken). To my
knowledge something like that should work well.
Will it?
...Yeah but I actually meant providing the FAQ on the home page before the

think it significantly increases the chance of the FAQ being seen by the
people who need to see them.
Forgive me for quoting Steve Jobs,
I'd help a bit as well if I can (can I?:)
Now, I think Quidam should make it official.

I don't think I do (and basically I cpuldn't set anything with xset).
I'm pretty sure screen brightness goes for every monitor connected to

I've got no idea what ATA Enhanced Erase is, but if I'm not mistaken, I

One is the overwriting with zeroes thing. It takes a long time, but basically

The other method I know of (which I think is more commonly used) is that it

I'm no expert so I can't fully understand the ATA Secure erase page (it seems

The thing is though, if you let the current erasing process finish and end up
with an empty drive after that, you (should) be able to

This is far from a (proper) answer to your problem (if at all which it's
actually not intended to be), but if you think you don't mind losing that

Which was the exact reason I wrote if you don't mind losing that touchpad.
I would certainly not mind losing mine if the laptop I'm typing this on had a

Any Wi-fi card laying around unused that can be tried?

Ah yes! Sorry (I was also looking at a few of MB's posts here so must've

1. Make the /etc/grub.d/01_PASSWORD file empty (or remove it). (You need

2. perform sudo update-grub from the terminal.
Guys from Ubuntu and Debian, yes (and if, IF you don't trust any of those
guys then why trust the rest of Trisquel's repos?).
Which version of Trisquel are you using?
And Systemd's not one programme, it's an umbrella prohject of programmes that
do one thing, or not too many more than that, at least competently.
Discussions are never solved, they just fade away unless pinned until someone

Yeah but one can say that about everything, from SysVinit to IceCat to GNU

Ekiga does it for me.
I think Magic Banana's trying to talk in that particular post about how apps
that depend on X don't simply run on other display servers.
Then again I'm not particularly competent in this matter which is why I
haven't posted my own position yet.
You mean that I did? No but neutral opinions like yours and not-yet-made ones

Personally I find it easier to customise LXDE, and I find KDE TDE more
customiseable.
The panel+nautilus, at the very least, certainly formed a shell though (which

I'm pretty sure LXDE's default text editor is Leafpad.
