Agreed. Similarly, I can come up with this example: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2016/04/27/there-was-no-love-in-this-kids-life-parents-fed-hot-dog-smoothies-to-starving-6-year-old-boy/

HTTPS Everywhere has a set of rules for different websites. You can get a rule for hedgewars.org added if you want, just submit a pull request.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Most people hate free software
"The Human Being is a omnivorous animal after all." Indeed, we are omnivorous, not carnivorous. We can survive entirely on a plant-based diet, and it causes less harm both to animals and to the environment to consume plants rather than animals. Defending eating meat because it is natural is fallacious for two reasons: (1) it is an appeal to nature. Many things that happen in nature (for example, cannibalism) we would consider barbaric. And we do a lot of things by choice that are unnatural, for instance computers. Humans are not "naturally" predisposed to using computers. (2) The animal agriculture system is hardly natural. http://yourveganfallacyis.com/en/humans-are-omnivores "I too feel bad for other animals but I like to think that even if i didn't eat that meat, the animal would have been killed anyways or worst, been killed and then the meat thrown away making it's death worthless." You would like to think that, but that is wishful thinking at best. If the demand goes down, the number of animals killed will go down. By going vegan, you can decrease the demand for meat thus decreasing the number of animals killed. "Anyways, if you prefer to still avoid meat it's fine, just don't forget to get all the vitamins and other stuff that usually comes from meat from other alternatives." Yes, this is easy to do if you eat a varied diet with plenty of vegetables and fruits. You should supplement B12 of course, and D if you live in a place with less sunlight, but many non-vegans should think about supplementing these too. Anyway, this is why I believe that it is the logical choice for anyone with the ability to go vegan to do so.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Most people hate free software
In that case, isn't choosing to use free software also a lifestyle choice that can cause a lot of stress? Except the difference is, using proprietary software reduces your own freedom a little bit, while consuming animal products harms others to the point of having no freedom whatsoever. Compared to animal rights, software freedom is an almost trivial issue, ethically speaking.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Most people hate free software
Veganism does not cause depression, and it's not expensive. Yes, the various fake meats are expensive, but those are unnecessary. Stop spreading FUD.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
Once 59 ESR comes out.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Quantum kicks ass
I guess I will try 57 out, but I'm sticking with 52 ESR until 59 ESR comes out. Hopefully by then all of my addons will have WebExtensions versions... (By the way a WebExtensions version of NoScript is out.)
Re: [Trisquel-users] Which browser should one use if one is after stability and support for existing features?
I use Firefox ESR. Works fine for now, but it will break WebExtensions at some point next year.
Re: [Trisquel-users] That's it, I will recreate Trisquel 8!
That's an old package. Use this one instead: https://packages.debian.org/sid/all/firmware-ath9k-htc/download
Re: [Trisquel-users] Who of this community honestly runs Trisquel GNU/Linux?
I don't.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ar9271 works on debian 9 64bit main?
What error messages? You have to run it as root. YOu can open a root shell with "sudo -s". Yes, you can download the .deb file, but apt verifies the signature.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ar9271 works on debian 9 64bit main?
> Do I use sudo nano to edit the file? Sure, you can do that. > I prefer if I could get the download link. OK, instead of using "apt install" you can use "apt download" to give you the .deb file. > Is it a requirement to know how to edit the source software which is turned into a debian package? > Must you know what every line in the source software does? No. You can read more about Debian packaging here: https://wiki.debian.org/Packaging#What_is_a_.22package.22.3F. > Looks as if it can be edited as it is. Really? I mean, anyone can edit a binary file, but you wouldn't realistically expect anyone to modify the software that way.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ar9271 works on debian 9 64bit main?
First, remember that Debian is run by volunteers. The firmware entered Debian after the freeze, so it isn't possible for it to be in stretch. It will, however, be in Debian 10 'buster'. > Those who make source software to debian software must they also master how to edit the source software? I don't understand this sentence of yours. > you get a file named htc_9271.fw. That file is about 1100 lines. I think you can do without the htc_7010.fw file. But that is the binary, not the human-readable source code! The source code is much longer. > Can you download the firmware file or debian software? I just gave you the instructions, just run those commands.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ar9271 works on debian 9 64bit main?
> What is this? It is a privacy feature. You can read about it here: https://blogs.gnome.org/thaller/2016/08/26/mac-address-spoofing-in-networkmanager-1-4-0/. This feature is enabled in Debian 9, but not in Debian 8. Unfortunately it breaks ath9k-htc USB adapters. > I want to file a report to debian about the firmware not being in debian 9 main 64bit and if you install the firmware debian package, it does not work. What should I write debian? It takes time to package stuff. It takes a long time just for someone to volunteer to do it. The firmware reached the Debian repos after the stretch freeze, so it was too late for Debian 9. Also, I don't know which source code you're looking at, but it is a lot more than 1100 lines (not that this matters). > Version 1.3 1 is not the latest version? > Where can I download the latest fw file? > Which version is the latest version? No, the latest version is 1.4.0. It is included in the main (AKA free software only repo) of Debian sid (unstable). If you want to install it, just run this in a root shell: dpkg -P open-ath9k-htc-firmware TMP=$(mktemp -p /etc/apt/sources.list.d --suffix=.list) echo 'deb http://deb.debian.org/debian sid main' >> "$TMP" apt update apt install firmware-ath9k-htc rm "$TMP" apt update

Now we just need Ellipse.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ar9271 works on debian 9 64bit main?
This is a known bug, I'm not sure in what. The workaround is to add the following lines to your /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf: [device] wifi.scan-rand-mac-address=no MAC address randomization during scanning doesn't work, so you will have to sacrifice some privacy.
Re: [Trisquel-users] deleted ext4 partition
Well, you have a backup, so it's not that bad. Reinstall Trisquel, and restore your backup. To boot from your USB drive, just use your BIOS options. You can also use GRUB (edit one of the existing entries).
Re: [Trisquel-users] How to be free
As for E-Ink devices, there is a Debian-based free software (with the exception of the WiFi firmware, which you can remove) stack for Kobo e-readers: https://github.com/lgeek/okreader. I think that is probably the best option. I am planning to get one of these for myself.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Intel AMT
It is impossible for all of the modern Intel processors. The ME is cryptographically signed, so there is no way to remove or replace it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Intel AMT
nfortunately, ME can't be completely removed starting with Nehalem (2008/2009) unless you're OK with the computer shutting off after 30 minutes. But you can use a script called me_cleaner to remove as much of the ME as possible. I'm not brave enough to try it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] What do you think about the Non-Distros?
I usually ignore them when I can. Now anyone can make their own "distro". The worst one I've seen is a "distro" made by white supremacists.

Re: [Trisquel-users] leak of windows source software. Beneficial?
Oracle claims that Google copied these 9 (trivial) lines of code: https://fossbytes.com/9-lines-of-code-that-google-stole-from-oracle-java-android/. Such a small amount of code shouldn't even be copyrightable.
Re: [Trisquel-users] leak of windows source software. Beneficial?
It's the code developed after the leak that could potentially cause problems.
Re: [Trisquel-users] Reminder: Current version of Trisquel has software that is over 3 years old
Actually, the Debian installer prompts you for a firmware package to use. You can download this package and supply it to the installer.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Mission impossible: Family privacy
Yeah, most people my age generally do not care about their privacy. You can't force someone to be concerned about privacy.
Re: [Trisquel-users] ¿How to obtain source code from closed company’s privative programs?
Copyright doesn't last forever, just a really long time. But copyright expiration won't give you access to source code.
Re: [Trisquel-users] PDF problems: Any way to evade installation of Adobe Reader? Urgent.
In my experience, documents with XFA forms usually work in Okular. They give a warning, but you can still fill in the forms, though they can't be saved in the document (Okular stores them in its dotfiles). I just print to PDF from Okular, which generally works fine.
Re: [Trisquel-users] make a free software version of google earth?
Wait, why doesn't Marble use Landsat images? https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Landsat They aren't as high resolution as the commercial ones, but much better than the ones used currently.
Re: [Trisquel-users] make a free software version of google earth?
Yeah, I use Marble, but the satellite images are very low resolution. They are from NASA, and there isn't really anything else because of the copyright problem.

Re: [Trisquel-users] why does the free software foundation reject mp3?
Seems that it is unencumbered now: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3#Licensing.2C_ownership_and_legislation Still, it is an old and inferior format.
Re: [Trisquel-users] The Replicant project calls for the Android SDK to be included in Trisuqel. Can you help?
There isn't much motivation for people to do that, because they take forever to be reviewed. In effect, a one-man project for now.

scilab shouldn't be blocked anymore in flidas, because there's a replacement for the nonfree code. If it's still not there, that means the package helper system is malfunctioning.

It took a long time, unfortunately, for it to get into Debian.

Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
At least you admitted it. You don't care about states' rights.
Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
"You're out of your mind." Well, I'm only telling the truth. "Right wingers want to let them go" Not even Californians want to go, so that would not be "letting". You're out of your mind.
Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
"It is impressive how you are ready to find any excuse to dismiss facts and save your ideology." Relax, the country is not on the brink of a civil war.
Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
If the federal government actually supports state rights, they should give grant money to all of the states regardless of their internal policies, or not give any grant money at all. Of course Calexit is supported by right wingers, because that is who it would benefit. California is one of the sanest states in the Union as well as the most populous, and Republicans would be elated if they were to leave. Of course, most Californians don't support secession, and secession is illegal (there was a war over it). Speaking of Texas, do you support states' "rights" to own slaves? For sure, the government made the right decision to not let them secede. And yes, we aren't trying to beat anyone on states rights, this isn't a competition. We are simply pointing out the right's hypocrisy on states' rights. Republicans don't actually care about states' rights except when they can use it to oppress people (like the one time when states tried to secede).
Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
Actually, the Norwegian unemployment rate is similar to that of the US: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_unemployment_rate. As for low prison rates, that might have to do with the Norwegian prison system, which attempts to rehabilitate rather than punish. Still, I don't see what these things, along with diversity/homogeneity and defense, have to do with the Internet!
Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
Yes, since it is a federal issue, the states are allowed to tell their police not to enforce it. It is not the states' responsibility to help enforce it. And if you support states' rights, it doesn't make any sense to oppose cities' rights within the states (just replace the state with cities and the federal government with the state, and make the same arguments you already make for states' rights). At least if your support for states' rights is a matter of principle, which I strongly suspect it isn't.
Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
But Republicans are okay with states preventing municipalities from providing municipal broadband. This is similar to when Texas banned cities from banning fracking and Michigan banned plastic bag bans. Another example of this is when Sean Spicer criticized Dan Malloy for not enforcing federal (not the state's responsibility to enforce) immigration law. Sean Spicer/Donald Trump are not "RINOs," they are the face of the modern Republican party.

Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
I thought the right wing was all for local/state rights and should be fine with local governments providing broadband. But guess what, it turns out that Republicans are for states' rights only when the Democrats are in control. ;)

The house voted for the bill: http://clerk.house.gov/evs/2017/roll200.xml. It will soon become law after Trump signs it.
Re: [Trisquel-users] EFF: Senate Puts ISP Profits Over Your Privacy
All of the Democrats (and independents that caucus with them) voted against it, and all but 2 Republicans voted for it (the other 2 did not vote). Also, Rand Paul (the "libertarian") wants to have it both ways -- he cosponsored the bill but then missed the vote so that he can say he didn't vote for it. Just an observation.
Re: [Trisquel-users] how to save these documents in a free format
XFA forms are not part of the standard and aren't supported by any free PDF reader. However, I usually find that in such documents, the forms work. I think XFA adds some fancy features like rich text, but I think if you don't need those, Okular should work fine. You can also use Okular's annotations (press F6 or Tools->Review) if you find that you can't type in a field.
