Re: [Trisquel-users] Hosting recommendations

2019-01-28 Thread megver83

Don't worry for the price and country (but if it's possible, avoiding USA).

I'd like a hosting service where I can access a full GNU/Linux system through
SSH where I can have root access, so I'd be able to install/delete programs,
set them up, etc. A Cpan (or similar) web would be also OK. What I want to
run there is:

- An Apache server (for websites and webapps, like roundcube and maybe
ownCloud/NextCloud)*

- email server (postfix+dovecot)*
- use Let's Encrypt for all the SSL stuff

*for these I requiere the typical opened ports, like 80, 443, 25, 564, 143,
993, 995, etc.

Would be good to also have the option of which distro to run. Otherwise, if I
cannot choose it, a good choice would be a stable distro (LTS preferably)
that runs versions of certbot that are able to create wildcard certificates.

Doesn't matter if the hosting service you want to recommend me doesn't meet
all of these requirements. While I can manage the web and email server, it's
OK (and most important, the SSL certs)

[Trisquel-users] Is the TI License free?

2018-06-14 Thread megver83
Hi everyone. Since I don't have much knowledge about licenses I wanted to ask
for help in identifying if a TI-licensed software is considered to be free
software.

The software I'm using is ->
https://git.ti.com/processor-firmware/ti-amx3-cm3-pm-firmware/trees/ti-v4.1.y
(see the License.txt file, that's the Texas Instruments Software License
Agreement)

Note that from the files under bin/ folder, only am335x-pm-firmware.bin and
am335x-pm-firmware.elf can be built from source, the rest of the files have
no source code (which makes them non-free).

Regarding the am335x-pm-firmware.* files, are they free software? if not,
which of the four freedoms of free software it's not respecting? and why?

Thanks for helping.

2017-11-15 Thread megver83
IMO that would centralize the alternatives and, in some way, destroy the
freedom to choose. Parabola is a simple and up-to-date distro, Dragora is
simple too but a bit more user-friendly and completely free from Systemd,
Trisquel is focused on offering a ready-to-use OS, EterTICS is made for local
radios, LibreCMC is made specially for routers, Hyperbola is centered on
security, stability and init freedom, and so on.

Do you get my point? There has to exist diversity. We can join efforts when
we need it, yea, but that's kinda unusual.

The point is that, as you said, they want to create the New World Order and
we have seen that they are achieving that. They have been present since
centuries ago, and they participated on the declaration of human rights to
make us think they are "good" like if they protected us. False, they are
worst than Monsantos and Microsoft, they also damage us and our rights, they
also lie to us, and the worst of all, it that they want to control all the
world. They have plans after that, for example removing 2/3 of humans, and
they are already starting, with imposed vaccines in schools which have
mercury, with wars in middle east, etc.

I perfectly understand you, I think most of us do, sometimes you might feel
you'll explote
But you have to be cold: I have a little cousin, he's like 3 years old, and
all his family uses anti-privacy technology (except me, I'm the black sheep),
there are hundreds of photos and videos of him in Facebook's database, like
many other little kids, and they have no idea of the risk, and surely they'll
difficulty know about, they just care about playing -like any child does-,
and they'll grow up living with this kind of society of the "I don't care",
"I've nothing to hide".
So that's why my suggestion is to be non-emotive about this topics, if not,
you'll likely feel bad. I'm not being pessimist, I'm being realistic, but
well, this is just my opinion

It didn't have anything, no battery, no BIOS battery, no DVD reader, no

has a bios battery, all the screws and a good flex, but I don't have the
battery and the DVD reader), it somehow stopped working (just like you read).
I turn it on and nothing it's shown, then it reboots, and at the 3th time it
rebooted it used to work but now it powers off. I've tried everything, but
nothing.

My questions are the following:
1) what the hell is happening?
2) could libreboot fix this? (it actually runs the default nonfree BIOS) it
could be a BIOS issue maybe.
3) similar to 1, which diagnostics can I do it to discover the issue and fix
it?

[Trisquel-users] Doubts about libreboot flashing and configuration

2017-02-22 Thread megver83
Hi everyone. I've some questions about libreboot. As I said in the Spanish
forum, I got a Thinkpad T400 and, of course, I want to flash it Libreboot.
The problem is that I don't have a BeagleBone Black, but a friend has a
Banana Pi. As banana pi is based on Raspberry Pi, I thought that this guide
https://github.com/bibanon/Coreboot-ThinkPads/wiki/X200-X201-Hardware-Flashing-with-Raspeberry-Pi
would work. The guide is for X200, but it is very alike to the T400.

For me it looks pretty easy, but my concern is the following: Are the pin
jumper cables different, in terms of electronic stuff, when they are
different in color? (the external cables like this ones) In the guide they
use blue cables, all of them are the same color. I've an ATX power source
that I do not use, can I use it's cables? And how do I take them out?

And, about the external power supply, how will I know if it is necessary? In
libreboot's website they use one for the BBB
https://libreboot.org/docs/install/bbb_setup.html and in the GitHub guide in
the note it says The raspberry pi 3.3V rail should be sufficient to power the
chip during flashing, so no external power supply should be required;
however, at the time of writing that has only been tested and confirmed for
one chip, the MX25L6405D. so in case I need power supply, I'll need a
male-female cable, right? and in what pin of the BPI do I have to connect it?

Here are the BPI pins

I know they are many questions, but anyway, thanks in advance!

Good performance, worked great but wifi card didn't :(

Re: [Trisquel-users] Alternative to BeagleBoard where Trisquel can be installed?

2017-01-07 Thread megver83
You're looking for an x86 SBC. I don't know if they exists, most SBC use ARM,
and Trisquel still doesn't support it, but Parabola does.

Try also with other distros, like Parabola MATE ISO. Do you have the option
to manage volume? Or it appears like no sound? Try looking at a more advanced
option with alsa mixer. It could also be that you may need to install some
gstreamer packages.

Banana Pi is based on Raspberry Pi (I think Orange Pi too) and it uses Uboot.
It's also supported by Parabola. Raspberry Pi is libre hardware, but it uses
and depends in non free software

The Banana Pi seems the best bet and i am running it with ARMbian at the
moment and I have also installed Arch on one of the board which I am trying
to convert to Parabola but no luck up yet. If anyone has some ideas on this I
would be happy to hear them.

Well, once I was playing with the BPI, I installed it Arch and then tried to
move to Parabola, I was very near to achieve it, but I had to give it back,
because it was borrowed.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Libre PC users X200 , T400, C201 needs some help

2016-12-26 Thread megver83
Minifree also tries to mislead people into thinking that the C201 they sell
is okay in terms of software freedom by saying: "Your Libreboot C201 obeys
you and nobody else. Even Richard Stallman uses libreboot!" At the same time,
on the libreboot website Leah Rowe, the person controlling both minifree.org
and libreboot.org says: "There is a huge cult of personality around Richard
Stallman" and "Many - a lot of - FSF followers are fanatical, to the point of
extremism".

https://minifree.org/product/libreboot-c201/
https://libreboot.org/why-not-gnu/

Yes, that's true. I find it so ridiculous. Boycotting and promoting RMS,
that's stupid. But in the problem of Leah is that she acts with her emotions,
not with her reason. And as you know, free software is an ethical matter.

Ethics>Philosophy>Reason

No reason = no ethic. Although it's not certified, anyone who buys it can
change the OS.

page 15 (the last one). It suggests non-free software, but while you don't
use that section, there's no problem.

[Trisquel-users] The death of CyanogenMod will affect Replicant?

2016-12-25 Thread megver83
Hi everybody out there. I was reading in the XDA website some news, and I
found this:

https://www.xda-developers.com/the-death-of-cyangenmod-and-whats-in-store-for-the-future/

Cyanogen Inc. has finally delivered a bullet to the brain – of CyanogenMod.
After years of tumultuous turnovers in the company, Cyanogen recently
announced that the company would consolidate all of their efforts into a new
Cyanogen Modular OS program.

As a part of their consolidation, the company announced that many of their
employees, including Cyanogen (Steve Kondik) himself, would part ways with
the company. Finally, today the company announced that all Cyanogen services
and Cyanogen-supported nightly builds will be discontinued after December
31st, 2016.

https://cyngn.com/blog/cyanogen-services-shutting-down

But it says that it will be rebranded as LineageOS
http://lineageos.org/Yes-this-is-us/
Anyway, how will this affect the Replicant project? Will it improve, get
worse, or continue the same?

[Trisquel-users] Bluetooth in the Thinkpad, libreboot compatible, laptops doubts

2016-12-02 Thread megver83
Hi Trisquel community! I'd like to buy a Libreboot laptop (but i can't), and
I was looking for it in Tehnoethic and Minifree, and both have its pros and
cons. In Tehnoethic, libreboot laptops have bluetooth, do Minifree's laptops
have? I stay with Minifree's prices, because Technoethic sells them with low
internal storage and more expensive. In the case Minifree's laptops don't
have bluetooth, how can I have it? In Tehnoethic's it says that its laptops
have a chip. Any video/tutorial that explains how to do that?

Thanks in advance!

"Your project will become associated with all of this, even if you personally
dislike Richard Stallman."

She endorses free software, but she hates RMS. It´s like being christian but
hating jesus. You are free to follow him, or not. In life not everybody will
be nice and friendly with you, and you have to accept that, that also applies
for work.

I think it´s enough. I don´t get the point of boycotting GNU and the FSF.
Is easy to blame, but not to prove. I hope one day this problem resolves.

Re: [Trisquel-users] Libreboot Developer Leah Rowe Attack gnu and rms Again

really? this is more ridiculous than hating GNU and developing free software,
like Rowe. The most stupid thing is that all this problem is not about sth.
that affected her. Involving feelings with the work may not be a good
combination, specially is those feelings are negative.

Calling people "extremists" implies they are willing to use violence to
achieve their goals.

I don´t think that it necessarily means that an extremist will use
violence, I think it means that the person will do everything to achieve its
goal. But I don´t think Stallman would do sth. unmoral to achieve his goal.

I would not call RMS an extremist, I would call him persistent.

What a bunch of crap. I agree with onpon4´s points, and that the rest is
nonsense. She "endorses" free software, she maintains THE fully-free BIOS
replacement in the world, and she sends to the hell to the pioneers of the
free software movement, the ones that we should be thank of. I have better
things to do other than badmouthing important free software projects.

Many - a lot of - FSF followers are fanatical, to the point of extremism.

What is "extremist"? Having a Libreboot computer with Trisquel or Parabola?
Leah´s overreacting, but seems that no one cares.
